You can also get a standard sti aluminum magwell that has the sides shaved down to fit in the box if you don't like the tactical version. I have one that I no longer use since I switched exclusively to uspsa

Egw u-die

Do you use a u-die? Are you running your cases through a grx die? If not either of those might help. If you end up getting a lot that won't pass your chamber check then I would have them open the chamber just a bit.

Aluminum guide rod, shave the back of the grips, and change out the main spring housing with the dawson ice magwell and you should be good to go

I'm interested in any responses as well. I do use the 200gr bayou bullets and they are pretty soft shooting

I have a feeling that after the response to the last input period "we hear you but you are wrong we are right" many just didn't bother.

Definitely get the builder to fix it. If you monkey with it he may say that you caused the issue and won't fix it.

You should be good to go with the WSF. I use 4.5gr to make major with 200gr bayous. So the 4.7 for plated seems about right. I think the max is over 5 gr loaded to sami spec so you should be OK.

Anyone have a favorite recipe for winchester WSF with a 200gr Xtreme bullet? I have a good major load with coated lead but have a bunch of 200gr Xtreme heads that I want to load up in minor. I was looking in lyman and didn't find any 200gr data. I was thinking of starting around 3.8 since it takes 4.5 to make major with the coated bullets. Any

I'm currently using 4.5 gr of WSF loaded to 1.180 and it makes major at 172 pf out of my kkm barrel (5" 2011).
I have some WST but I haven't tried it yet.

You may not need that much powder to make major with WSF. I thought it was closer to 5.1-5.2 range

In two of my guns (stock STI Tacticals) I have the factory stainless barrels that they put in their "Edge" type pistols. In my JPL Custom gun I have a KKM barrel. Of the 3, the KKM is the slowest by 20-30 fps average but slightly more accurate. Hope that helps.
What kind of barrel do you have in them? For a Moly coated Bear creek, 200gr I use 4.2gr of Ramshot Comp seated to 1.185" in my 3 5" Edge type guns. For plated I use 200gr Xtreme RNFP and 4.4gr of Ramshot Comp seated to 1.185". Both average 172PF in all of the guns. These loads feel so much softer than my old 180gr recipes.
Hope that helps,

It does, thanks. I thought kkm were faster than the sti and shuemann barrels but I stand corrected.

Are the mags tuned?
Where are on the ramp are the rounds getting caught up?
-
Don't forget that the bullet heads also can fluctuate in weight as well. I have some bayous that were as far as 5 gr less than stated weight and also as high as 3 gr more than the stated weight

As the topic says, does anyone have any .40 major recipe for plated bullets with either wst or wsf? I load long for a 2011 with a kkm 5"barrel

This. the Brazo is massaged by experienced fingers. trigger is cleaned up. i would take the Brazo any day over a CRP.so whats the diference between the braz hp and daws crp ?? other then there own parts added an crp has .5lbs heavier pull and is the extra 260 worth it for the bhp ??
Dawson CRP just adds the magwell, front fiber, mag button/catch, basepad and tooless guiderod. The blued CRP is at a REALLY good price, but you have to call them to get the price. You can pay an extra $200 and have them do a tuning job on it.

Yes it is. If you don't want it. I'll take it. Haha.
200gr coated lead 4.0gr oal 1.19

Have you tried bayou bullets? I have the 200gr and I think they are cheaper than BBI
-
I settled on a 9# wolf spring when I was running factory 9mm
-
If you want the best value, I'd say the high performance edge from brazos. Then buy the 4 pack of tuned mags from them and call it a day.

I did borrow a friend's chrono to complete the load development. Settled on 4.5gr at 1.180 using 200gr bayous. Gave me 172pf. 4.4 made 169 pf out of my 5" kkm barrel

I had the dawson on my single stack. It's worth it. You can be a little more sloppy and still hit a good reload, plus the wrap around magwell creates a good spot for the support hand to rest on.
