  1. Ive shot 2 of the "XS Sporting" model guns and loved 'em. I ended up with a Cynergy Trap gun with 32" tubes and have learned to use it for everything. The deal for $950 is pretty decent, and you could probably get that out of it again if you decided after a while that it doesnt work for you. Dont sweat the beads. If you are breaking birds, its fitting (ulimately pointing) better than you may realize. Different isn't always bad.

  2. AMF, we may have been the victims of this at the same match a little while back. I didn't read far enough into to details to catch that nugget myself. I also think its a tough pill to swallow; especially tough if you're a Friday shoot-thru and the table isn't until Sunday afternoon. It seems like there could be some way around this issue that would satisfy the shooters, match officials, and, most importantly, the sponsors kind enough to donate stuff.

I'm also curious as to how much stuff is REALLY donated vs. how much is purchased with entry fees. Seems that the stuff purchased should be available to anyone in the match. I don't know, it just smells funny.

I will shoot 3-4 matches this year on Fridays and go home after. I have young kids and see no reason to be gone for 2+ days when I can shoot the match in one. Just means that I'm not around on Sunday and saves me some hotel costs too. I'm still just as much of a consumer in the shooting industry and it stings to be cut out of the prize table.

Another example would be a match that filled the main match but would allow a shooter to shoot Friday with RO's, etc. That guy pays the same fees and shoots the same match. He also takes an extra day off work to do it. But, he has to either spend extra time in a hotel for no reason other than to hang around for Sunday afternoon prize table or drive home and back for table on Sunday afternoon. Gotta be a better way...

  3. Now I'm really reaching back a bit. 1.5 yrs have passed. I'm working on a slightly different project. I need a "blank" comp for an M&P 9mm. Would love one that would match the contour of the slide, but that isn't really required. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  4. Heavy Metal is a .308 rifle (20 rnd mags), .45 ACP pistol (often 10 rnd mags, but should still be 8), and a 12 ga pump with a tube that holds 8. End of story.

Lots of matches (and even USPSA) are coming up with silly, blasphemous "heavy" divisions, but the list above will always work in any heavy division though some matches allow more "high speed" stuff.

  5. For my .40 Pro, I collected ab 8-10 mags over the course of a year or so 5-6 for Production (finally legal)/IDPA and 3-4 for Limited. Some polished bodies, some matte. Tube finish hasnt seemed to matter in my gun. What I did notice was that in all the mags, I had two different types of followers; one type had "40" on the top, the other is blank. I found that the ones with "40" on top seemed to work better and allow an extra round in my limited mags with TF extensions. I contacted S&W and told them that I needed 6 of the followers with caliber on them and they sent them to me. Not sure if they can still be had for free. If anyone needs the other style followers, I have a few that I could pass along.

As with most things mag-related, YMMV...

  6. Best bet is to subscribe to this thread and get auto-notifications immediately when someone posts in it. Keep an eye on your email and when you get one where some awesome Enos-er posts that he/she sees stock, you head over to your bookmarked MG page and see if they have what you need/want and "ADD TO CART" and check out ASAP before someone beats you. I pulled over in a Lowe's parking lot yesterday afternoon to score a case of bullets when the post showed up that there were bullets in stock. Someone posted a couple pages back that they seem to generally see the items come available mid-afternoon, and that seemed to hold true yesterday as well. Thanks to all who keep us posted by posting.

  7. If you look into any of the spring maker sites like Wolff or ISMI, you will be inundated with more springs than you can shake your guiderod at. For light 9mm, I would imagine that something in the 9-12 lb rated range would be about standard. Usually can be had for $10 or so, but Glock stuff is everywhere, so you might even be able to source something form your LGS too.

  8. It depends on the type of match. Many are using light bullets in the 125gr ballpark for all the blaster/hoser stages and then using the "match" loads for anything out past 200-300 yds. I assume you are talking about .308. I know that Sam Keen has loaded up 110 gr M1 carbine projectiles to make lower recoil short range ammo, and plenty of others have done similar things. I've used Midway 125 gr "blems" (I think they were Rem polymer-tipped 2nds), Sierra 135 gr HPBT, Hornady 110 V-max, and a few others that I do not recall at present. For the accuracy stuff, most go back to 150, 155, 165, 168 gr bullets in "match" loads.

  9. Its amazing that some people post so much "help" in some of these threads that appears to be completely unrelated to the OP's starting post.

FWIW, I've used Clays, BE, Red Dot, and Promo for major and minor loads and I wouldn't hesitate to use any of them again. I've been loading with Promo lately bc its the cheapest and has been readily available. Your barrel and bullet choice will dictate exact charge weights needed for desired PF/reliability.

And, as long as you're willing to do a little spring-swapping, you should be able to make it run just fine.
