  1. I no longer see the no knee pads in the book. I wear them (admittedly under, not over my pants) and if I were not allowed to wear them I would no longer be able to shoot IDPA. As far as the SO statement, that is what they are trained to do and in clubs I shoot at that is what they do. The score keeper keeps score and assesses penalties unless it is a firearm related penalty. With the statements being made for changes, I think the first thing that needs to be done is along the lines of what Rhino suggests: Create a uniform training module for Safety Officers and Match Directors so all rules and principles of IDPA are enforced in a like manner in all affiliated organizations
  2. With this example, that is not a problem with the rule, it is a problem with the SO and Match Director. The rule is definitely not clear but as you say, there needs to be something else. For that many FTDR penalties to be given out, someone just likes to give them. They need to re-read the book and realize the duties of a SO. I started this mess and I see no real answer. I disagree with the answer of making a procedural a higher value. For newer shooters, it will become very discouraging and drive them away from the sport. I would be more inclined to support a rule similar to IPSC that if the violation gives the shooter a Significant advantage, they are assessed one procedural for each shot in the string after the violation occurred. The term Significant needs to be defined if that takes place. The unfortunate thing is what I think carries no weight with IDPA so this is just an exercise. Thanks for participating.
  3. A customer wanted to ask the attractive waitress for a date, but couldn't get her attention. When he was able to catch her eye, she quickly looked away. Finally he followed her into the kitchen and blurted out his invitation. To his amazement, she readily consented. He said, "Why have you been avoiding me all this time? You wouldn't even make eye contact." "Oh," said the waitress, "I thought you wanted more coffee!"
  4. Done. I agree with this as a possibility. I feel the FTDR could be a good tool if it were explained better. I have heard of it being used in the design problems you mention, but I have never seen it. Most matches I attend have their catches and design flaws but not to that extent. As far as no shoots, I couldn't agree with you more. Regards,
  5. I have posted what the book says the FTDR is. What happens if it goes away is the question. Course design is a different topic also covered by rules. In my example, there was no course design flaw. It was a skills stage where the design was not followed. The shooter was experienced. Many have said do away with the FTDR. If there were no FTDR in the rule book, what would you suggest takes it's place in a case like this? Regards,
  6. FROM THE LGB This is an off shoot of Mark's excellent topic. With the obvious concensus of thos that posted the the FTDR be eliminated, how do you propose to penalize a severe infraction of the rules or blatant disregard of course design? Here is my example of the only FTDR I have ever given in 4 years as an IDPA SO: (This was only one string but this is where the violation ocurred.) ================================================== At signal shooter is to engage T1 T2 & T3 with one round each. Shooter is to perform any IDPA approved reload and re-engage T1 T2 & T3 with 2 rounds each. Shooter A shooting SSP has 11 rounds to start stage. He/she steps to the line, shoots 1 each then 2 each with no reload. ===================================================== My view on this particular incident: Without a FTDR, shooter gets a 3 second penalty. With the FTDR shooter gets a 20 second penalty. Without the FTDR, many will take the three seconds rather than perform the reload. This is the only time I have seen a FTDR penalty given. If IDPA had a one procedural per shot after the infraction rule, the FTDR would not have been needed. They don't so I feel it was. Any other ideas? Regards,
  7. A man and his wife are awakened at 3 o'clock in the morning by a loud pounding on the door. The man gets up and goes to the door where a drunken stranger, standing in the pouring rain, is asking for a push. "Not a chance," says the husband, "it is three o'clock in the morning!" He slams the door and returns to bed. "Who was that?" asked his wife. Just some drunk guy asking for a push," he answers. "Did you help him?" she asks. "No, I did not, it is three in the morning and it is pouring out!" "Well, you have a short memory," says his wife. "Can't you remember about three months ago when we broke down and those two guys helped us?" "I think you should help him, and you should be ashamed of yourself!" The man does as he is told, gets dressed, and goes out into the pounding rain. He calls out into the dark, "Hello, are you still there?" "Yes," comes back the answer. "Do you still need a push?" calls out the husband. "Yes, please!" comes the reply from the dark. "Where are you?" asks the husband. "Over here on the swing!" replies the drunk
  8. Only fair answer to thjis from what I have seen is not always and not all MIM. Cylinder stop, rebound slide, thumb piece, bolt, are usually MIM. Hammer and trigger depends on what they have left.. I know this is not a lot of help, but that is what I have seen. Regards,
  9. With the majority of the changes that are proposed the new look of IDPA could be seen HERE Regards,
  10. It is no longer in the book. It was in the red book but not the green one. (Good thing because I always wear knee pads). Regards,
  11. The one thing I have wanted to see in IDPA since I started shotting the game is no walk through. If they wish it to be "Tactical" which it never will be, there should be a course description given and then the statement, solve the problem. All stages should be blind stages with the SOs and those that have shot it working the targets. As long as it is a private company, the whole discussion is a moot point. Best to you all on this holiday, Regards,
  12. As stated, the original apps went out in October to those who had requested and those that had shot the match before. They had to be sent in no earlier that 10-20 which I am sure gave Peg a mad rush. So far I know 4 guys who got thursday slots and turned them down. There has always been a waiting list which usually gets used. Two years ago, there was a shooter who drove to S&W in case someone didn't show up at the last minute. As far as the weather, I see us having another tough winter here so I may allow an extra hour for the drive. Regards,
  13. Got my packet today and a Saturday slot. The Best Western will fill up quick with those $59 rooms. It sure makes it easier when the banquet is where the room is though Anyone else going? Regards,
  14. A Doctor was addressing a large audience in Tampa. "The material we put into our stomachs is enough to have killed most of us sitting here, years ago. Red meat is awful. Soft drinks corrode your stomach lining. Chinese foodis loaded with MSG. High fat diets can be disastrous, and none of us realizes the long-term harm caused by the germs in our drinking water. But there is one thing that is the most dangerous of all and we all have, or will, eat it. Can anyone here tell me what food it is that causes the most grief and suffering for years after eating it?" After several seconds of quiet, a 75-year-old man in the front row raised his hand, and softly said, "Wedding Cake."
  15. Never read the fine print. There ain't no way you're going to like it. The only two things we do with greater frequency in middle age are urinate and attend funerals. The trouble with bucket seats is that not everybody has the same size bucket. To err is human, to forgive - highly unlikely Do you realize that in about 40 years, we'll have thousands of old ladies running around with tattoos? Money can't buy happiness -- but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than in a Hyundai. Drinking makes some husbands see double and feel single. Living in a nudist colony takes all the fun out of Halloween. After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead.
  16. If you ever get in the area Randy and have the time I would appreciate a chance to see your work. E mail is in my profile and I am only 2 hours away from Springfield. Regards, Gary
  17. Well Mike I admit to being pretty new to wheel guns, started shooting them in 1970, went to the S&W Armorer's school in 1980, serviced revolvers for 9 departments over the years, and continue to learn about the fine points on a daily basis. I only work on my own now but even that is a challenge. I would love a chance to see Randy's work. I always appreciate the workmanship of others. There a lots of trick for light actions. Some good, some not so good. But I must tell you, the 30 plus years of experience the Master Gunsmith/toolmaker at S&W has needs to count for something. He doesn't just tune them he also builds them. Someday we will meet somewhere and we can compare. That is the joy of this sport, there is always something else I can learn. That is the reason I read here. Regards, Gary
  18. Now don't pick on my buddy "Bones" Serrated trigger? That is what I prefer but I like the .400 wide serrated. I get better control from them. Gold Bead? Well sorry Bones, I still prefer tritium post with either black rear or tritium rear. S&W Performance Center? Well we live in the people's republic. Since we are driving distance from S&W and we get to shoot at their range, we also get to know who "The Man" is to work on the revolvers. I have a 610 done by the PC and it is a fine action that works with all primers. I also have a 625 that I have done myself that is Federal primers only. I used the same principles but went a little lighter. As far as the extended firing pin? I have never really needed one but they sell them so people will buy them I have seen the 19 Bones had done at the PC and it is a real fine gun. I too will recomend the PC for an action job but I will even tell you who to ask for if you want Regards,
  19. If you can try different types of brass, you may find the 40 thousanths work for you. If Starline Brass is available to you it may be what you need. If you need samples of various brass just say the word and I would gladly ship you a few different brands to try. Regards,
  20. I have these on order. Expensive, but I will use them for a lot more than shooting. http://www.duluthtrading.com/items/10898.asp I will let you know how the work out.
  21. If you get in, we can arrange a meet there also. I can show you the Meprolights I use. I never could get used to those XO sights. I had them and got rid of them. See you in Springfield, BTW Bones have you moved up or are we now shooting the same class??
  22. So as not to HiJack the thread, private e mail with the whole story.
  23. NP3 in an applied coating from Robar Guns. Go to their web site and read about it. http://www.robarguns.com/DesktopDefault.as...id=4&tabindex=2 I have had it on parts, magazines, and will next have it on a revolver frame and internals. It isn't cheap, but it works. Regards,
  24. An executive was in quandary. He had to get rid of one of his staff. He had narrowed it down to one of two people, Debra or Jack. It would be a hard decision to make, as they were both equally qualified and both did excellent work. He finally decided that in the morning, whichever one used the water cooler first would have to go. Debra came in the next morning, hugely hung-over after partying all night. She went to the cooler to get some water to take an aspirin. The executive approached her and said, "Debra, I've never done this before, but I have to lay you or Jack off." Debra replied, "Could you jack off? I feel like shit .."
