  1. Which number is the super squad? Wouldn't mind watching a stage run by them. As my first match I have a great time! Even though I sprained my ankle badly on stage 4 (first one of the day). My friend, who was with me, taped me up with ductape and we were back in business! I was shooting the match for fun and I guess that's all it's going to be. Trying to be competative now will be a lot harder. Tomorrow morning I will force myself back into my shoe and my friend will tape me up again so I can at least finish the last three stages! This is about the most fun that can be had within the shooting sport and I'll definetely try to be there again in the years to come! The Dutch guy from Squad 1
  2. A little nervous on this side. This is going to be my first ever 3Gun match. I normally shoot IPSC Rifle, IPSC Shotgun and Dynamic Service Rifle locally in the Netherlands but as I was in the country anyway for the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot I thought: why not Had a rifle especially build for this (Doublestar AR15) and am using the shotgun (Remington 1100) and pistol (Para .45ACP) from a friend of mine. No idea what I'm up against except that everybody tells me it's about the most physical 3Gun match in the country... We'll see how that goes. I probably won't be competative enough but I'm excited about the new experiences and meeting everyone!
  3. I had it done here in the Netherlands and am only about 5 grams off on the LMOS carrier from JP Rifle. You guys are right that it eats tools as my gun smith used 6 different cutter plates on his lathe. Anyway, here's a picture of the end result. I still think I should be able to get lighter but he doesn't want to waiste any more cutters on this. He's lookign for a company that can grind it like they do with crankshafts and such.
  4. I use a .920 18" 1/8 stainless Double Star barrel. Shoot 1/2 MOA at 110 yards (100 meters). Must admit that I have had the barrel turned down under the handguard to .650 to reduce weight. In combination with the Benny Cooley brake and a lightened carrier and buffer (not the LMOS system but reworked carrier and took 3 weights out of the buffer) it shoots very nice and light. Will you be using it for IPSC Rifle or are there 3-Gun matches in France?
  5. Well, won't tell you how much I spend to get there then Even so, it paid for the overweight of my suitcase when I went back home
  6. OK, just wanted to give you the end result of my experimenting. I loaded the rounds with 25.2 VV N140 and 69 gr Match Kind bullets from Sierra. End result was 9th place of 61 shooters! I'm happy with that and it meant my first ever price money! We normally only get medals or trofies.
  7. I agree with you. October 2008 was my first trip there and although I was in awe about all the machine gun shooting, It only took my real attention for about an hour. After that I worked the subgun range and walked the show. It's nice to see the different types of machine guns, as we are not allowed to have any, let alone shoot them, but the whole atmosphere is what drags me back every time. I shoot 4 subgun matches, 1 assault rifle match and the Sunday shotgun match when there. Mostly with borrowed guns but the assault rifle match I shoot since April 2010 with my own rifle after having found out how to import it into the States whenever I fly over
  8. Thanks I tested some yesterday. Vitha Vuori N140 25.2 grains. Got the load from the Dutch IPSC Rifle champion. He told me he was pleased with this load shooting steelplates in Norway at 300 metres. Speed around 2800 fps which is what Paul Tapar advised me. 5th time I'll be at the Shoot shooting the Assault Rifle match, 2nd time with my own rifle. Last year I took the 7,62x39 upper on the AR, this time it will be my IPSC dedicated .223 upper. The last 5 visits were without floods (although October 2009 was pretty wet) so hopefully this one will be dry as well. Are you going? Is anyone from here going?
  9. Not 3-Gun at all but at least AR15 and dynamic shooting. I'll be at the Creek again in 2 weeks and will be shooting the Assault Rifle Match for the 5th time. As I borrowed a 7,62x39 AR before and shot the last match in April with my 7,62x39 AR, I'm in a total blur of what to use for my .223 AR. My AR has got an 18 inch barrel with a Benny Cooley compensator. The steelplates are very heavy when compared to others. I've decided on 69 grains Match King bullets but am wondering about what load to use behind them... I've got Vihta Vuori N135 and N140. Someone recommended 25.2 grain N140 but he doesn't know the plates used at the Creek. I know some of you have shot there, could you give me some insight into the loads you guys are using? For the guys wanting to meet: I'll be mostly at the SubGun Range working as RO on Friday and Saturday.
  10. Sorry guys, never thought about ATF... We don't have them overhere. Unscrewing the comp might be the way to go then. And yes, my comp changes point of impact as well so I use my method if ever needed (legal overhere).
  11. It depends a lot on the shape of the compensator. If it's just round along the length you could wrap a thin sheet of metal around it and clamp with a hose clamp (looks bad though). Better: take a piece of pipe that fits snuggly around it. Cut to length what you need. Then cut a slit in the length of the piece and weld 2 eyes on each side. A little bolt and nut will clamp it around the compensator.
  12. I would say 15 inch should do it. Just measure how much your barrel sticks into the receiver en deduct that from 16 inch.
  13. Check Luxguns in Luxembourg. They seem to import JP Rifles without a problem. And otherwise you could always import yourself. I know multiple guys overhere in the Netherlands who did it.
  14. Funny thing is, we tested these surplus rounds out that have the soft steel core in them and they damage the steel less then fmj's with brass jackets. However, there's a lot of danger of ricochet's, that's why a lot of ranges overhere don't like them (especially not when they have steel plate back stops (indoor ranges)).
  15. I just finished (well almost) my rifle for IPSC Rifle which is similar to the 3Gun rifle part. I used a Lamar lower receiver (Dutch custom gun brand)with a DPMS lower receiver kit but have changed the triggergroup for a 2-stage trigger from Rock River. That will change again for a single stage JP in the near future. Pistol grip is from CAA (with fingergrooves), stock is ACE skeleton. Upper receiver is mostly Double Star. I started out with a 20" stainless bull barrel, Double Star gas block, Double Star NM handguard, TNW milled receiver and Double Star standard BCG. The bull barrel was shortened to 18"and threaded to accomdate a Bennie Cooley compensator, barrel thinned under the hand guard to .650. Bolt carrier has been thinned to a weight of 195 gram. I lightened the buffer myself to 89 gram (took 3 weights out). Also, the gas block was changed into adjustable. On top it has a La Rue mount with a Redfield 2-7x33 scope with Accu-Range reticle (I know it's low budget but, I try to keep costs to a minimum). right behind it, at an 45 degree angle there's a red dot for close range targets. Except for the trigger, I'm really happy with how it turned out. The upper receiver itself will be changed for a Les Baer without forward assist in October/November. Not sure if this set up would work for 3Gun (which I hope to come over and shoot a few times myself if finances let me) but for IPSC Rifle it works very good.
  16. My mistake! Soft steel jacket with tombac coating
  17. As most Eatern Block ammunition it most likely has tombac in the jacket. They will probably hang onto a magnet. Still, even the higher rank brands use these type of jackets and it's softer then the barrel. I wouldn't worry to much about it.
