  2. I like the superior tuned mags from shooters connection linked above but at the same time theyre also STI tubes and I noticed the feed lips spreading after 5k rounds or so. I now have SVI mags and the metal seems to be much harder - at 7.5k rounds the lips are still at the same dimensions. I'm not sure if I got sti tubes with soft feed lips or what but I also dont want to worry about it after the fact. The SVI mags are untuned and theyve run a 100% so if they have to be modified to fit the grip or the grip modified to the mag - so be it, its a one time thing. I dont want to have to pay for the dawson tuning kit AND have to check tolerences and adjust every few months.
  3. Hey Jeremy, this is Alex - I used to ride with Tim Halberg and Zak Maeda a long time ago and met you a few times. looks like you have plenty of hand speed to work with - from the video it looks like you have your finger still in the trigger guard during reloads - get it out of there if thats the case, Ive seen a few DQ's now from shot going off during reload. Is the magazine going in naturally or is that pause there so that you can line it up a bit more before inserting it? if the latter, try playing around with the angle of the gun in your strong hand so that it matches the angle that your magazine hand is coming from. A good reload for me feels like the gun almost sucks up the magazine because its going in straight without having to deviate at a angle. Also, the target the lumpy points out is also a very good tip. I usually index on something small from across the room like the end of a lampshade cord so that i have to be pretty precise. make sure that you are getting that sight picture on the draw, keeping it in your periphery during reload and back on index on it at the end of the reload. The last part is likely more useful for classifiers and places where you get stuck during a standing reload but you always want to be looking for that next alpha. looking good so far aside from those two things.
  4. not sure who is doing the monthly maintenance on this - but if you are grabbing all these stats manually - I wrote this script for race to M class that anyone can run from a mac or a linux box to automate things - makes it a painless chore and you can do multiple divisions for everyone without it being a hassle: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=123147&view=findpost&p=1668630
  5. click of a mouse?? I may write another really short script to just post it for me automatically every month

  8. do you need someone to take over the monthly grabbing of percentages? I think i can write a script for it pretty easily.
  9. theres a pretty good review available here: I only shoot uspsa and have a giant DAA backpack so I got the beach rolly. I'm really liking it so far, haven't actually brought it to the range but its well made, goes together quickly and is light weight. they're expensive but so are a lot of things in this game.
  10. Would this be about the same as the photochrome clear rp's? wg not sure, havent tried the rudy version of that yet. the oakley iridium photochromic lenses i like alot for indoor or cloudy days but i still prefer vr28's to anything else if the suns out.
  11. And you believed that line?? having always run only SSO safeties and having flipped on one accidentally after the transfer makes it a bit more believable.
  12. I have a very high grip. I don't need an ambi to hang on, I need it to keep from engaging the safety with my left hand. I got a SVI this year(strong side only safety) and they do something really interesting. When I got it i thought it was fit wrong since it took some good effort to put the safety in safe position, dropping it was very smooth with a nice definitive feel but i wondered why it was so hard to push into safe. SVI told me that they setup the safties that way so that you will not accidently push it on when switching over for a weak hand string. awesome how much thought they put into this stuff.
  13. I went through the same decision probably about a year ago. I went with a strong side only safety because: - i'd seen and read about ambi's breaking - weak side safety hits my thumb knuckle - the safety comes off as part of my draw before transferring to weak - i dont stick my weak hand trigger finger in the trigger guard during the transfer - the general design of a ambi seems like a rear large weak spot. - I noticed on many guns a general sloppiness in fit of ambis - these were all stock guns anyways, I went with strong side only and havent regretted it once. there was some extra practice involved for transfers and some extra practice for who shooting but its fine.
  14. how often are you ramming your wrist into barriers hard enough to damage a watch? take this with a grain of salt since I have never shot 3 gun but do have some really nice watches. if its not a dress watch, stop worrying about it and just wear it. if youre really that worried about it, just get a nato strap for it and call it good: if youve got something like a omega seamaster, the sapphire crystal is flush with the bezel and pretty hard to chip. If youve got something with a exposed edge(crystal) that you can feel with your finger nail then youve got a better chance of chipping it. if your ramming your hand into barriers infrequently as opposed to every time you shoot, if youre at a stage where you are thinking about ramming your hand into something maybe just put the watch in your pocket for that stage. I stopped worrying about my watches a few years into getting nice ones. You can obsess over every scratch or just enjoy wearing them and realize that these things also need regular service(every 5 years in most cases) and that it will get taken care of when it goes in. Lastly, stay away from strong magnets if you have a nice watch with a automatic movement.
  15. it makes me a little envious when i'm sticking in a new fiber(my gun was shipped with a 6 inch peice of fiber) and I have it inserted so that I can cut and melt off the side opposite the muzzle first. I always take a glance at it and with 6 inches of fiber sticking ou tthe other end, the sight looks like it has a small green lightsaber in it.
  16. i used to auto dump 3 rounds on the swinger when it started slowing down and then move on, i'm slowly getting better at calling two shots and not taking a 3rd insurance shot.
  17. If i remember this correctly, STI is in the process of redesigning their alu grip so that it doesnt crack and SVI only recommends their alu grip for minor pf
  18. Heres a rundown of a couple: Warren: .150 Wilson Combat: .145 Heine: .140 Harrison Custom: .135 Bomar: .115/.125 depending on who makes it. I seem to like the .100/.135 combo the most so far after trying out several different versions. I'm running a SVI now with .100 front and .132 rear and if the notch were a little deeper i'd love it. Be careful when you start taking a file to your sights to get them JUST RIGHT. If youre off it'll end up crooked and it ended up bugging me or you'll end up with a straight but much wider notch than originally anticipated. Also I really like the width of the notch for all the limcats ive seen, not sure what those are at. For front sights, I swap between a .100/.132 with the limited gun and .125/.145 with the singlestack, the smaller front notch seems nicer on plates at 20+ yards but I seem to be able to hit them just fine with a .125 front. .09 front is probably a little small for me now
  19. i have all those pics on my computer somewhere, i'll see if i can upload/link them.
  20. 9mm - shoot less charlie/deltas, problem solved.
  21. nice work. Try using rsync next time instead of ftp/scp. Rsync lets you pick up where you left off on failed connections.
  22. damnt trace, now I want a sight tracker as well!
  23. thanks for all the feedback everyone, I posted this topic originally and was mainly curious about what was possible. At a practice last week, one of the local master level open shooters took me aside and walked me through how to relax enough so that fast splits could happen. I somehow ripped off a .10, .12, .13 in a bill drill. awesome feeling, dont know when i'll ever be able to take advantage of it in a match but it was a cool thing to figure out. His advice was relax and a 80/20 grip. you can see it here at 3:30 in this video
