  1. I have squib rods in 22,40&45 cal that are cupped to fit over the bullet nose. It would have only contacted the case head and not the primer I'd a hammered it out if needed with either my squib rod or a 45cal dia wood dowel, we keep a few at every stage
  2. You guys are making me feel a lot better about the upper end of the charges. I honestly surprised at the 5.0gr max cited above...wouldn't think that leaves a lot of room for seating a 180 grainer. But anyway...I'm as happy as can be with anything between 3.0 and 3.4gr so far, under the 180 lead, and in fact I'd have to really concentrate to notice all that much difference in that range, although at 3.0gr it's downright spooky that the 5" M&P still cycles. But, 500 rounds Saturday and 300 today, not a single malf of any kind. As was I, I double triple checked to make sure I wasn't reading data from a different powder The sierra data from the late 90's I have look Identical to the "5th edition" with the exception that clays is now listed in the newer data were as it wasn't even an option in the older books I have. I have been shooting 3-3.5 grs of clays for years it wasn't until recently when I decided to start shooting major loads that I went back through all my data and couldn't find anything using clays that would make major. I just happened by the SG store Sunday and saw a unwrapped/open Sierra 5th edition manual and decided to take peak and what I saw was WOW different from the their earlier data. I won't get anywhere near needing 5grs shooting a lead 180gr pill. I only need to make about 925-950fps to make PF and that is achieved with 3.8-4.2 grs of clays shooting lead. If shooting JHP's one might need to load 4.2-4.6 grs to get 925-950fps and still make MPF
  3. I think it works both ways to hard of bullet shot to slow won't obtrate either sounds like the bullets are either to hard or undersized to me or maybe both I just started shooting lead and noticed that the lube and a little bit of lead will build up in the throat area when my velocity is under 850fps over 925fps the leading goes away in the throat area but I find little shards of lead towards the end of the barrel I believe they are caused by rough spots in the barrel as they clean right out with a bore snake which in my mind means the next bullet down the tube cleans the previously deposited lead out and leaves a little bit of itself behind.
  4. Welcome to the dark side Hornady's LnL is the "apple" of the reloading world
  5. Same here I did notice that the junk mail came pouring in after registering with my "other" email address
  6. Odawgp

    OAL 40sw

If it feeds reliably then it is long enough IMO I load to what will fit and still feed out of the mags which isn't much over book 1.155
  7. I'm using a LnL and clays in both 45acp and 40S&W everything runs like a top, I spent the extra coin for a micro meter insert from Hornady that works a little better than the original pistol meter insert. A powder through expander is a nice addition if you don't have one (mine is a "Powder funnel" PTX) Hodgdon doesn't seam to list any 40 S&W loads over 3.5grs while using 180gr JHP's I have a suspicion that hodgdon's data is very very conservative almost to the point of out date - In 1998 I purchased "the complete reloading" for 40S&W that showed data from all of the major powder and bullet manufactures hodgdons 180gr JHP data is the same now as it was then. Sierras data didn't include clays as a option -Now in Sierra's 5th addition 40S&W data lists a starting weight of 3.6grs and a max of 5.0grs of clays using a 180gr JHP. I am shooting 3.8grs of clays under 180gr missouri hardcast O.A.L. 1.155 out of a Sig Pro 4" making 166-67PF consistently
  8. with a little work you can mount 1911 officers model grips to it All of the rugers I have owned have run like a swiss watch
  9. bullseye is how I got wet in the shooting sports I still shoot it when I can as the winters here are rough and there is no IPSC in the winter I got to get my gun off somewhere
  10. A lot has to with the network had it been on ABC,NBC or CBS it would have blown those others out of the water I was turned off by the reality show format, I turned it off after the relay began I don't do reality tv at all The Bullseye-L guys have been raging on it all day it seams that unless you put 16 national "bullseye" champs on the show it is irrelevant who wins maybe that is why BE is the fastest dieing form of shooting out there
  11. Yeah, it's because scoring minor sucks. if your shooting all A's like you should what is the difference...?
  12. The only problem I have had was with the bushing holding the powder measure in used to work itself out a wire bag tie doubled over itself tossed under the o'ring fixed that and I haven't had a problem since
  13. That there is a good product made by a friend of mine. Dan is a regular over on GlockPost.com. When he first introduced the idea I was skeptical of it's advantages but after trying his powder funnel design, it's vastly superior to the hornady options. IIRC Dan was originally trying to sell the idea to Hornady but they wouldn't bite. Since then I think Dan has made a near-full time career of manufacturing & selling these things. I haven't heard one complaint yet so I guess it was Hornady's loss. Whelp I am going to complain I ordered one from him via google checkout on the 29th of April on May 7th an empty envelope arrived (it had been torn open in the mail) here it is the 24th of May and I haven't heard a word from "Dan" ready to call the CC and do a charge back if he doesn't do something about it soon I have sent at least 10 emails via google checkout and nada! Not sure if Odawgp will chime in but Dan at Powderfunnel reports that a replacement was shipped and tracking info provided. Seems his 15 year old (neighbors kid) warehousemen/shipper is on a steeper curve than he expected. S#it happens. Dan made it right I figured he would if I could just get a hold of him going through google checkout was not the way to do that thanks Jman happy reloading to all
  14. the system there isn't letting me send messages for some reason...??
