  1. When Bill Wilson checked my SVI at the Nationals the box was about 1mm from closing. I had been checked the day before in a different box with no problems. Mr. Wilson threatened to DQ me. I told him the gun passed with no problems the day before. I also asked him if a wood box was not effected by getting wet, dry, humidity or heat. He then told me if I bring my gun back next year if will not make the cut. I guess if they remove my Cross Comp from the list, can get a single stack 9mm SV with some gamer 9 round mags.
  2. I agree with you 100% dirtypool. I just started shooting IDPA last year and I am having a good time with it. I now have a SVI limited gun and plan on shooting IPSC this year. I think shooting USPSA will make me a better IDPA shooter. All of the top shooters I watched at the Nationals last year are IPSC shooters like Matt B, David S, and TGO. Almost every match I go to, I see shooters taking off their glock 19's and strapping on glock 34's. I received comments from some Tactical Tom shooter when I called IDPA a game. My only response was, if it isnt a game then why do we keep score. If they take my gun out of the list I dont know what I will shoot.
  3. That will sure upset me if they make that rule change. I have alot of money invested in my gun and gear to make a change now. How many people carry one of Wilson's $1800 guns on a daily basis. I bet his guns will still be allowed for competition. I know alot of people that have money tied up in SVI's. Maybe the BOD is tired of seeing them win so much that they consider them gamey. Unless they follow me around every day to see what I carry, how is someone going to tell me what I carry on a daily basis. Maybe I do carry my Cross comp every day. If this comes to pass it is a crock of B.S. in my opinion.
  4. Hey Iron Mike, If you can swing the SVI Cross Comp, I would do it. I bought one last year and have absolutely no regrets. The transition from a glock to a SVI takes a little time because of the speed of the gun and the grip safety. You got a look at mine at the regionals a couple of weeks ago. I was the one you were laughing at after the stage when I had to wait about 2 hours for the pop up target to appear after shooting the mover. Get a SVI and dont look back. you can email me if you have any questions about getting one. Dave
  5. I am pretty sure you can get one from Comp-tac. I have two of Gregs holsters right now that I use for IDPA. One for my Glock 17 and another for my SVI cross comp. Comp-tac's mag pouches are also very good. Matt Burkett uses the comp-tac line for his IDPA rig. I know if you call Greg at comp-tac he will make a holster to fit any gun you like if he doesnt already produce one. He also has great service and warantee with his holsters. Dave
  6. I just stopped by SVI on the way home from work yesterday and picked up one of the new stainless extractors for my 9mm cross comp. I have had some extractor problems with the original one when using blazer ammo. The extractor would lose tension after about 500 rounds. I will be shooting my gun tonight with the new extractor and will give a report after I give it a run. Dave

    My New Toys

The one with the scott grip is my IDPA gun. The limited gun had the strait trigger in it already. I am trying out both to see which one I like and convert the other to match. Thanks for the replies. I think my next one will be a single stack commander in 38 super for a off duty gun. I also see an open gun in my future some day. It makes it nice being able to stop by SVI on my way home from work when I need something. Sandy, Tami, and Len are great to deal with. Dave
  8. Happy holidays to all of you gunners out there. I am spending Christmas with my extended family in blue today. I guess after 20 years on the job I have become pretty use to working the holidays. I wish everyone safe passage for yourself and family members. Take care, Dave

    My New Toys

Here are a couple of pics of my new blasters. I have moved up quite a bit since I started shooting IDPA in February with a glock 17. I will be tapping your brains for more info for awhile. I am going to start shooting USPSA after the first of the year. I have already learned alot, but there is so much more to learn. Thanks Dave
  11. I am beginning my USPSA habit and need advise for my rig. I am settled on the CR Speed belt system, but I need help on mag pouches. I have a SVI Limited .40 with a Ultimate Ghost holster I bought from Matt Burkett. Should I get the Safariland 771's or the CR speed mag pouches. I have a 38 inch waist so I am ordering a belt in 42 inch. There are several options on the 771 mag pouches at speedshooter.com, so which do I choose. I am sort of sold on the carbon fiber because it will match the holster. I know that is important. thanks for the help. Dave
  12. I use the SVI 120mm duty lenght mags with the aluminum wedge shaped basepads and a stainless SV magwell. The 126mm are a little too long I think. I will have to measure them. I have 126mm for my .40 limited SV and they stick out a little too far to fit the box. My Burkett Cross Comp with the duty lenth mags BARELY fit in the box. Bill Wilson measured my gun a second time after I had already been given the box test on the first day of the Nationals. Hope this helps. Dave
  13. I like to shoot and win myself. I can and have shot IDPA with a standard glock 17, but I shoot much better with my SVI. I get all of the gamer gun comments from some people, but I just smile and keep shooting. I figure that if it were not a game, then why bother keeping score. Just my .02 cents

    .40 Dies

thanks for the info guys. The market hall show didnt have squat for loading equipment. One dealer was selling redding dies, but I wasnt sure enough to spend $75 on them and find out later that they were not what I needed. I guess I will order what I need from EGW and ghost dog. thanks again. Dave
  15. I am going to the Market Hall gun show in Dallas today to buy .40 components for my Dillon 650. I have an unlimited supply of .40 brass from my departments range that has been fired in glocks. I have heard that RCBS dies size the full length of the case. I need to know if this is true or not. I will get a lee FCD like the one I have on my 9mm setup. I also need to know what else I will need for calibre conversion. I have 9mm and .45 setups right now. Do I need another shellplate or anything else like that. I will be shooting the loads out of an SVI limited gun. Thanks for any help offered, Dave
  16. I have one of the Burkett Cross comp guns. I have not regretted the expense what so ever. I started shooting IDPA in Feb of this year with a G17. After shooting a SVI a couple of times, I knew I had to have one. It took a while to catch up with the speed of the pistol when I first started shooting it. I would call Matt and talk to him on a regular basis to pick his brain. Matt is a first class guy who doesnt mind talking to new guys. I won first place ESP/MM at the nationals with my SV and got bumped up to SS. I have been consistanly beating other SS and EX shooters at local matches with an occasional MA thrown in. The only thing better than having one SV, is having two. I just bought a Limited .40 to start shooting USPSA matches. I look forward to higher round counts and avoiding the dreaded FTDR. Sandy,Tami, and Len great to deal with at Infinity. Get one and dont look back.
  17. Hey Vincent, I dont think I got to meet you at the Nats, but I saw you talking to several of my team members from TDSA. This was my first National match and I learned a few things from the experience. I didnt like the way they had two or three stages strung together in a bay. Instead of focusing just on shooting the COF of one stage, I had to also worry if I was going to have enought ammo on me for the Next stage. I didnt like having to carry a box of ammo with me to the firing line to reload mags. I like being able to get my focus on shooting only and not have other distractions on my mind about later stages. I finally started slowing down the SO's at a couple of stages by pulling the mag out of my gun and counting the rounds out of the mag, then taking my time to reload them. I told them I had hi cap mags and didnt know if I had ten rounds in them since there are no witness holes in the mag. I learned that the SO cannot rush you into another stage when you are loading mags. This gave me a minute to gather myself for the next string of fire. What did you think about this and how did you work through it. Dave
  18. I have a nova special purpose and it handles very well. I bought my mag extention from Bachman guns in Dallas. The extended mag tubes are a bit pricey at $50. I looked everywhere and this is the only place I could find one locally. Hope this helps.
  19. Hey Boom-Boom, How is it going. You should really try to come to the Fun Raiser match at the range on the 24th. I really shouldnt remind you since you might show up and make it one more person to kick my butt in the match. I did get my gun through BradC a couple of months ago. You cant beat the service from Sandy at SVI. Tami is also very helpful and great to work with. If anyone is in the Dallas area on the 24th and wants to shoot at out TDSA fun raiser match, I will have my gun for anybody who wants to give it a run. Hope to see you all there.
  20. I just recently changed from a glock 17 to a SVI Matt Burkett cross competitor. After getting familiar with the 1911 controls, my scores are improving at each match I shoot in. I am going to venture into the USPSA sport, so I bought the .40 setup for the gun. I have several members of my shooting club that are placing orders for a gun like mine after they took turns shooting it. You should check out the specifications on the cross competitor if your interested in a sweet shooting 9mm.
  21. Thanks to all who responded. I sold my AR10 to Mr. Burkett, so the SVI is going to be ordered this week.
  22. hello fellow shooters. I am relatively new to competition shooting. I have been bitten by the IDPA bug since February of this year. I feel I have found my passion in shooting sports. I have been shooting a production SSP glock 17. I feel like I have done fairly well by attaining the rank of Sharp shooter in four months. I have taken some lessons and I am practicing and shooting as much as four matches a month. OK, here is my question. I recently fired a members new SVI IDPA 9mm double stack pistol and fell in love. I am an avid gun collector and feel I must have one of these finely crafted handguns. I have started taking some interest in IPSC shooting recently. Can I get the SVI with an interchangeable breech face and convert the pistol to .40 for IPSC shooting. I want a gun I can do both with. I want to stay with 9mm in IDPA for the cost factor of ammo. I am going to sell an like new AR10 and probably a new Kimber TLE to buy the SVI. I just dont know how I am going to be able to stand waiting four months for my new toy to arrive. Especially since they are made here in the DFW area and I could go directly to the shop and check on the status of the pistol. I know this is a lengthy post, but I am easily excited about these shooting sports that I have stumbled on to. any suggestions from the experienced shooters will be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all Sgtglock
