  1. Oh, I also apologize for the wall of text. I tried to create paragraphs, but the site doesn't seem to want to let me. Is there a trick to it? I even typed it all in Word and copy/pasted into the text box and it still crammed it together. Also, thanks for the replies.
  2. Please bear with me as I piss and moan about my perceived deterioration of skills in a relatively short amount of time. I have been shooting for over 30 years, but it has always been plinking, shooting at bottles, cans and other assorted garbage. The pistol I ended up shooting the most was a Browning Hi Power. I know that gun like the back of my hand. My BHP is satin nickel with an adjustable rear sight. The sights were also satin nickel, but that didn’t seem to be a problem. I was talked into shooting at the local, unsanctioned match. I did and was hooked. There were two or three guys that were always on top after scoring, but for the rest of us (other enthusiasts that were mostly coworkers,) I was typically the one to beat. Well, because I didn’t want to subject that gun to the rough and tumble that was run and gun, I opted for a Glock Gen 4 model 17. I was still the one to beat. I joined USPSA and started attending matches where the big boys and robots play. I would usually place below half way on the score card, but accepted that I was a little fish in a big pond, the opposite of the outlaw match. But something else was happening. The friends that I would beat on a regular basis were catching up to me at the outlaw match. It seemed like the more I shot, the worse I got. A couple of them even asked me what was going on. I couldn’t explain it. I just wasn’t hitting my targets like I used to. I made another change. I moved from the G17 to a Gen 3 G35. I didn’t want to give up points shooting Minor. All the while, I was getting even worse. I shot in a classifier this past Saturday and finished last in Limited in several stages. I did have a couple of snafus with mags, but the biggest problem was not hitting the target. Some would say I just need to practice, but I thought I had natural talent? I mean, what is so difficult about hitting a big ol’ piece of cardboard with a bullet? Besides, I’ve shot more in the last three years than I had the previous 25. That’s got to count for something, right? How can I be getting worse and how do I turn this around? Is it mental? Is it the gun? Is it Obama’s fault?
  3. Can you expand on this just a bit? I chose a Scherer over the others for my G17.
  4. Congrats! I just picked up the same gun. I have the Gen4 G17, but it's the only Glock I've ever owned or shot til now. I can't say which Gen is best.
  5. Switching eyes assumes you can see from both. I'm LE/RH and twist my head to shoot. I'm not blind in my right eye, but my vision is so poor that it is no contest which eye I will use. I could use a contact to correct my vision (and I do just that when hunting deer with a bow), but at 43 years old and being like this from birth (retina abnormality coupled with near-sightedness and astygmatism), I just don't enjoy walking around with corrected vision. Sounds weird, I know, but I've grown quite accustomed to relying on one eye to see the world.
  6. Hi. Fellow SCer here. I'm closer to Charlotte than I am Summerville. I shoot once in a while in Columbia at Mid Carolina Rifle Club. I recently visited FPSA in Wagram, NC. Nice place. I shoot and carry a Gen4 G17.
  7. I'm cross dominant. It's just fine for pistol. My problem is with everything else; rifle, shotgun, bow. I've resorted to wearing a contact lens for those as I don't want to start buying left handed stuff.
  8. Welcome! I wish I shot enough to reload, but it just ain't happening. Guy from SC, here.
  9. Yeah, I'm talking about Black Creek. I've fallen from Grace and I'm trying to blame everything except my lack of trigger time. I mean, my buddy is beating me with his Sigma. I can barely show my face at work! I'll keep shooting the 17 because I carry it. If I don't get any better (or keep getting worse), I'll start carrying a SBS. Ha! By the way, did you know about the classifier in NC this past weekend? I shot in it with Griff and Bobby. I thought I would have seen more of you guys there.
  10. This is why I need to stay away from forums when I'm drinking. I already know the answer and it is practice. I CC the G17 and that's why I shoot it in matches, for the practice. But, if I want to get better in the matches, I need to spend more time shooting between matches.
  11. Is something wrong with these? I've got about 2000 rounds through mine with only one stove pipe. I've only been shooting WWB, though. I haven't tried anything else. Gun is bone stock with the exception of a drop of my daughter's hot pink nail polish on the front sight.
  12. This is quite possibly the wrong section for this, but it also doesn't necessarily focus on Glocks, either. It could apply to any brand. I began shooting matches in April of last year. I got a couple of friends hooked and it's been a blast competing with these guys. I started out with a very old Browning Hi Power. It is more of an heirloom and I decided I didn't want to beat it up, so I went shopping. I ended up with a Gen4 G17. My buddies were still shooting CZ 75s and Berettas. I was beating them every time. I didn't chalk it up to the gun, but to my "skills". Well, each one of them bought G35s. They both beat me at the last match!!!! I need a G35!!! In all seriousness though, did simply going from a CZ 75 and 92F to a G35 do the trick for them? I know my game is off a bit. I've had more mikes in the last two months than I've had in a year, but this seems off. Here's the question I'm trying to get to; With similar skills (and none of us are A or B shooters), is there any reason I couldn't be competitive with a G17 vs. their G35s? I'm really only concerned with being competitive at our local matches which are scored as raw time plus penalties straight up.
  13. Happy Bumpday, Erybody! I'm still doing this because it's easy and it's working. I've gotten as low as 146 lbs., but I seem to fluctuate between 149 and 152. This is good and all, but what I'm most stoked about are my numbers; BP and cholesterol. My BP still runs around 12X/8X, but it was no better on meds and I've been off the meds for almost a year now. My cholesterol: Nov. 9, 2009 LDL 155 HDL 39 TGL 154 Nov. 9, 2010 LDL 176 HDL 66 TGL 77 Jun.17, 2011 LDL 139 HDL 95 TGL 49
  14. I consider myself very lucky, I guess. I have about 800 rounds through mine and have had only one stove pipe. I have shot nothing but WWB in mine, because it is the cheapest. I did notice that the gun would jam after every shot with my son, but worked flawlessly with me. He was definitely limp wristing it, but he can shoot my BHP and SA Ultra Compact with no issues.
  15. The owner of these said they were $7 per round. He has a .50 BMG he's going to shoot them through.
  16. I don't know the ins and outs of this round, but I thought the pic was sorta neat.
  17. Dang! Mine's not til Friday, but my son's is today. (42, 12). A late Happy B'day to you guys!
  18. I wanted to update without starting a new thread. I haven't been on as much as before. I participated a bit in the "Top Shot" threads, but mainly lurked. In May, I decided to give this a go and it has been very successful in my opinion. I started with the PaNu site and migrated to MDA. I pretty much have done the things advised as far as eating, but I'm yet to lift a finger with any kind of exercise. That's more because I've always been a tad lazy and I find it hard to break my routine of work, eat, plop on the couch. Anyhoo, I weighed in this past Sunday at 150 lbs. That's a 25 lb drop since May. I feel great and I feel great about it. I wouldn't have thought eliminating certain food items (not necessarily quantities) would have had such a pronounced effect. I literally was dropping a pound every two to three days in the beginning. My bathroom activity became routine, my skin feels like butter, I'm even seeing the outlines of an ab or two. I've read plenty and realize there are people out there that this just isn't working for, but for me it has been a real blessing.
  19. I didn't care for this movie at all. I do believe Tracy Morgan suffers from a touch of mental retardation.....and not the funny kind.
  20. All that was missing in JJ's AD was for the gun to have flipped out of his hands.
  21. This is why I like Pinnacle. My wife battles with WMM.
  22. I believe this to be impossible. I'm visualizing this when I see Colby standing before the camera:
  23. I've had a Gmail account for years, but I don't use it. I've been using either the mailbox offered by my ISP or either Yahoo. Yhaoo had started getting crazy for a little bit with the changing and the shiny new tweaks they offered. Again, I was looking for something that would not aggravate him when he decided to check email. He can be so impatient.
  24. I just found this. Interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76Gw6OFFMW4&feature=related
