  1. No disrespect meant, but when I first saw your SN I asked myself, "Dan's crap bags?"
  2. My son and I watched it Friday. We both liked it. I think I liked the first one better. My son is undecided.
  3. I bought a mosquito about two months ago and it really has been a pain in the rear. I started with bulk box Federals because that's all I had. The gun had some variation of a malfunction probably 50% of the time. I bought some 1260 CCIs to try in it. That cut the malfunctions down to around 5%. At the last gun show I attended, I asked the gentleman from Georgia Arms for an ammo recommendation and he sold me a box of Aguila (sp?) super high velocity. His recommendation was Stingers, but he didn't have any. Not a one of the 10 Aguilas ejected. I will try the above list of actions to try to get this thing running. So far, though, I am really disappointed.

  6. This ain't my first rodeo, Grumpy. I mean no disrespect, but some things are meant for searchin' and some things aren't. I just never figured out the difference. Also, I'm game for anything anyone wants to throw short of the banstick.
  7. I would rather ask an archeologist what he found than to stand around an exhibition with my hands in my pockets looking at his finds. Of course, I imagine once an archeologist keeps telling people over and over what he found, he may develop a bit of an attitude and would prefer people leave him alone. It's like the excitement has left him. I did search, btw.
  8. Stupidest thing as a kid: I was about 12 and my Mom was about to sit down on a bentwood rocker to feed my infant sister. Just as she was past the point of no return, I pulled the rocking chair out from under her. She obviously couldn't drop the baby, so she landed flat on her rear. One bounce and she put my sis down and commenced to chasing me out of the house. Studpidest thing as a young adult: My girlfriend and I were arguing and this fellow decides to come to my girl's defense. He kept telling me how he would mess me up, but he had just come out of basic training and was in total control of his temper. He learned discipline in just a few short weeks. I told him I could make him hit me. He guaranteed me he was in control. Well, I kissed him Bugs Bunny style and he totally lost it. He would have probably killed me if I hadn't had my guard up. Stupidest thing as a grown up: I had a 24 y/o Mexican girl in my house while my wife was in Florida during Thanksgiving. It almost cost me a total of one marriage.
  9. Oh, with pistols it's no issue at all. It's everything else. If I'm shotgunning, shooting the rifle or my compound bow, I now wear a contact lens in my right eye....which I hate because I don't wear one any other time.
  10. Just how common is this? I'm right handed and my left eye is dominant. I'm curious if any "champions" are like this.
  11. With this brand new gun I decided to try the style of grip described. That's why I thought maybe I was pulling the gun with my left. I have always shot with the left hand as a platform for the right hand and gun to sit on. I see practice is in order and I've already explained to my son what the problem may be. Thanks guys!
  12. Awesome! This is the first glock I've owned so I wasn't aware of this unique trait. Thanks guys!
  13. I shot my new Gen 4 G17 for the first time today and decided to take a look at the strike on the primer because of something I had read on here before concerning someone's gun leaving smear marks on it. The strikes looked a little elongated at first, but by the end of the 3rd mag, the primer had a rectangle impression on it with the dimple in the center of it. It looks like the pin is striking the bejeebus out of the primer. Is this anywhere near normal for a new gun? I haven't seen this with my older BHP or my newer SA Ultra Compact.
  14. I took my new Gen 4 G17 out this evening to try it out. I loaded each mag with 15 rounds of Federal 115g FMJ. My first shot from 15 feet was inside the one inch red dot. I was stoked. I decided to try a few rounds in succession and found I was drifting to the left. I believe as the gun got to buckin' I started tightening my grip with my left hand. But enough about that. I changed the mag and let my 11 y/o son shoot. He shot once and when he went to pull the trigger again, nothing. I checked the gun and the spent round had not ejected. I racked the slide to load the next round. He shot again and the exact same thing happened. I took the gun, racked the slide and popped off two rounds in a row. I gave it back to him, he fired and the round ejected this time, but the next round jammed going up the ramp. I cleared the jam, fired the gun. The round ejected, the next round fed fine so I handed him the gun. He fired and the next round jammed. He was able to fire a couple in a row one time, but even when the last round was ejected, the slide slammed shut instead of staying open. I put the third mag in and fired 15 rounds in succession without a hiccup. One thing I didn't do was number my mags before I went out. That will be the next thing I do. Could there really be a reason the gun would act like that with him and not me? The reason I even ask is because this happened one time before with my BHP. I was using Remingtons from Wally World that time. I had a couple of jams out of two mags and he had maybe 6 or 7 with a different mag. I picked at him a little like it was his fault, thinking there was no way, but with it happening again with a different gun? Now, he is a small framed child weighing maybe 75 lbs. I'm not saying he's weak, but he can't rack the slide on the glock. Could a limp wrist hold on the gun be a reason for so many malfunctions?
  15. Don't be so Grumpy. I will shoot it and I do enjoy shooting it. So does my wife, my son, my boss, my friends, etc. Just after two matches I do want to retire it from competition, not from shooting. I want to be somewhat competitive and I don't like the idea of dropping mags in the sand and shoving them back into this gun, even after taking them apart and cleaning them before the next stage. I would like to be able to drop a mag and only be concerned with popping the next one in, but I don't want to do that with this gun. Maybe I'm just being anal. Dad gave me the BHP many moons ago as a reward for quitting smoking so the gun means a little more to me than just a nice gun would. I want it to be in great shape when I hand it to my son one day.
  16. Thanks! I have been "shooting" for over 20 years, but I only just started in matches and have only been twice. The matches aren't sanctioned yet and it is really only for bragging rights with whatever acquaintances show up. I do enjoy it a lot and look forward to getting a little more competitive without going full blown. Here's the gun I shoot but I want to retire it to the safe and only bring it out for the occasional dust removal:
  17. And what is a good mag? Speaking of mags, if this is barreled 9 x 21, are the mags special or are they regular 9mm mags? Edit: Now help me out with this; If the barrel is for a 9 x 21 and you stick a 9 x 19 in it, how does the round seat? I'm picturing the leading edge of the case bottoming out on the step in the chamber. Also, if the round sinks into the barrel 2mm deeper, how does the extractor grab it or am I just that off base with all this?
  18. Awesome! Thanks for the tips. I'll do anything to avoid buying a Glock.
  19. Is it even worth that much? Is this brand rare enough that I probably won't find a 9 x 19 barrel at a small southern gun show? Where is a good place or site to try to find one?
  20. Well thanks for nothing Mr. Zip. You know how that makes me feel?
  21. I know it's a Tanfoglio Witness or EAA Witness or, or....I don't know what it's called. It's Dad's gun and he doesn't really know much about it. He traded a guy a mini 14 for it several years ago. Also, it's a 9x21. He has considered selling it but he's not even sure what he should be asking for it. It came in a steel case, has two mags and 400 rounds of ammo. I joined the forum because I want to learn more about shooting competitively, but when I saw this section I just had to ask. The gun:
  22. He also has them positioned where they don't sweep the room when the door is opened. I like that. I'm sure they are stored unloaded, but it's a mental thing with me.
