  1. I went with a Fobus for my 9L. No complaints. I could not justify spending 3x's more. Call me TEAM CHEAP
  2. So if it was not designed to do this, is it a defect? Should S&W responsible for making it good? I am not a mag "slammer" but this has happened on occasion when attempting to go "FASTER,FASTER" A round has always chambered. Someone mentioned that Glocks will do this....were Glocks designed for that? I understand Dan's view that slamming the mag in is not faster....makes perfect sense. Having the slide fall has cost me time.....even though it has always stripped a round. Not realizing it had fallen I have cycled the slide manually ejecting a loaded round. Both of our M&P's have functioned without a flaw......other than this.
  3. Very nice ANeat. It is great to see someone who has "REAL" skills in the machining trade! Skills that are rare with CAM software and solid models these days. I have used full form solid carbide thread mills and single point tools as you have. Mostly for serrations on extended mag releases for Ruger MKIII that I have made.
  4. I have stock out of the box 9L with about 1500 rds thru it. Have had no malfunctions. It will however drop the slide when a mag is slammed in. But it has always stripped a round. My wife has a standard 9. I will have to try it with that gun. Was the gun designed to drop the slide and chamber a round when a mag is "slammed" in?
  5. A local shop has a great price on a used Kimber 10mm. Can that be converted to .40? I thought I may have heard that you could fire .40's in a 10mm? That may have been revolvers only. Rich
  6. Thanks for the info. It is a fun shooter. I am used to the more traditional location of the mag release, so that makes it a bit awkward. I was told that due to the gun being discontinued that they may become more valuable as time goes on. We foung this one used in great condition in a small town gunshop. During last winters shows I never did see any more. I thought that may be a godd place to pick up another. Thanks for confirming the NEOS mags. I had heard that they were the same. Shoot safe and often! Rich
  7. A HUGE thank you to all! Awesome advice!Great collection G man. I checked out Ben Stoeger's site, that looks very informative! I look forward to learning, I hope that some day I can help others as well! Rich
  8. Hello, I am looking for advice on where to start. What class? I believe production would be the place to start? Since I have a stock M&P 9L. I have looked over some of the rules but have not found much on what I can modify internally. The trigger in particular, how much trigger work can be done? And I would be limited to 10 rounds? I plan on attending our local new shooters clinic May 1. I am sure many of my questions will be answered there. Does anyone have any advice about what I should practice? Draws, reloads etc.? What ammo? Gear? Thank you, Rich
  9. Has anyone ever come across a Savege Model 101? It is a single shot .22 LR. It looks like a revolver. The cylinder (which is attached to the barrel) swings out for loading. It has a ejector rod the same as a traditional single action revolver.Intersting little gun. I would love to find out more about it. I had it out shooting some steel plates today! Was actually fun! A nice change up from modern handguns! I have not been able to find much about Savage handguns. I remember the Savage .32 ACP my dad had. From what I remember it was a well built hangun. I think it was a single action semi auto. I cannot remember the model. Thanks! Rich
  10. My MKIII had developed a consistant stovepipe problem. I was able to reduce it with a good cleaning of the magazine catch. Powder residue had built up where the mags lock on the small "shelf" of the catch. There was also some buildup on the mags itself. After that things were better. After a bit of expierimentaion I found that mags were seated to far, and the fired case would catch the lip of the mag upon extraction before reaching the ejector. I removed the magazine catch and machined .015" off from the shelf the catches the mag. .015" worked on this gun, I may remove more in .01" increments if I have any more problems. But so far with CCI mini mags, Federal bulk packs and WW super X I have had no stovepipes! I hope this will help anyone if they encounter this problem! Rich
  11. We have a Colt .22 semi auto. I have seen it called Colt "New" 22. It looks like what I have found called the "Cadet". It is a nice shooting gun, my wife had fired one owned by the instructer at "Doe camp" last summer and really liked the feel of it. We found one used at a local shop and purchased it. It looks like there was a target model made with 6 inch barrel and adjustable sight. Is any one familiar with this gun, is there any info out there? History etc.? Rich
  12. I went ahead and built up the bolt stop with a bit of weld. Reshaped it and it works like new! While I was at it I made up a spacer out of some 420 ss to replace the mag safety....WOW the the mags fall out as they should! They also seat much better but could use base extensions. I will at a later time add the Volquartsen parts. Rich
  13. Thanks, I will give that a try. I had actually just began to "slingshot" the bolt. But the damage may have already been done. Has any one ever tried a trigger job without replacing parts such as the Volquartsen items? I plan on hitting our home range today, I will clean up the bolt stop and try that out! If I still have the issue I may TIG it back to the origional size and shape. Thanks Rich
  14. I stripped down my MKIII Comp after shooting yesturday. The bolt would only lock open about 10% of the time after the last shot. I found that the contact area of the bolt stop is damaged. Has any one seen or heard of this? I am not sure if I want to return it to the factory (only about 1000-1500 rds) I can do TIG and reshape it. But if this is being caused by another issue I would like the factory to be aware of it. If I repair I can be ready to shoot tomorrow, the factory could be weeks and I may need to pay shipping etc. The area of the bolt where this contacts looks ok (not damaged) But does appear to be radiused. Is that normal? I can supply pics if anyone has parts to compare it to. Also is anyone familliar with a do it yourself trigger job for this gun? El cheapo, no or few parts to buy? If I have the gun apart for the repair I would like to work the trigger and make a bushing to get rid of the magazine safety. And while I am at I may add a nice fine glass bead finish to go with my custom tiger maple grips! Rich
  15. Thanks everyone, I am going to try different ammo first. And some more work off a good rest to try and make a better decision. I think this particular gun may be passed on to my wife and I am looking at a 9L or pro. I may go with the L and work the trigger over. Maybe the gun will behave differently for my wife, she has no plans to shoot any matches with it and wants a crimson trace laser grip. If the gun still shoots low with the factory sight we will replace the rear with a adjustable. Rich
  16. With the factory sights on the M&P only adjustable for windage, what can I do for elevation? The gun shoots about 4-5" low at 25 yards. Ammo does not seem to make a differance. Should I just change my POA? I would rather POA and POI be the same, or is that asking too much?! I am a new M&P shooter what can I do to correct this? BTW, the responses to any of my previous posts have been AWESOME!! A huge thanks to everyone! Rich
  17. Hello, I uploaded a photo. It shows in my profile but not with things that I post. How to fix that? Rich
  18. has not set their status

  19. The breech face on our new M&P shows a concave detail just under the firing pin hole. There has only been about 200 rounds through this gun so far. The primer on the fired cases shows that metal is flowing into this concave detail. I have inspected it under magnification and cannot tell if it was machined or some sort of damage. The fired case that was supplied with the gun also matches this. It does not appear to be affecting anything. Has anyone ever seen this before? I have not been able to look at the breechface on another M&P yet. I am wondering if I should report it to Smith & Wesson in case anything changes later? I am going to take it to work and check it under the microscope. I can also get some better pics with the high resolution camara on our CMM. Rich
  20. Hello, I am looking for opinions on the uplula magazine loader. Are they worth the $$? Or is there something out there that is better? Have a AWESOME day! Rich
  21. Try McMAster Carr. They have many numerous materials that may work. I would try a silicone rubber. Should be different thickness availiable. I have purchased polyurethane sheet from them as well in different durometers and colors! Great Idea though! I may try it on my wife's Colt New .22 auto and my MkIII! The Colt can be difficult to seat the mag, it is well iside the frame/grip. Rich
  22. Hello! I am planning on attending the new shooters day in May. I missed the match in February and will be out of town for the March match. I am looking forward to try production and having some fun! Rich
  23. Is dry firing my M&P ok. I guess I am from the "old" school and was taught to never dry fire a gun. Although I have done quite a bit of dry firing with revolvers. Shouls I use a snap cap? R.
