  1. I have been using a Kodak Playsport. I use an 8gb card, and keep two extra batteries that I have never needed.

I bought it because it is waterproof to 10 feet and I have a 3 yr old that loves to swim. It's also pretty rugged.

There is a remote available for $10 that makes it easy to view on the TV without having to stand by the TV to control it.

The 720p video can be shot in 30 fps or 60 fps if you want to do slow-mo. 720p also has a pretty wide angle view which is helpful while filming stages.

It also does 1080 video, but it isn't as wide an angle.

  2. A company can sell 100 widgets at $20, but if they only sell 20 gizmos, they need to charge $100 to make the same amount of revenue. just a idea, i really have no clue.

 Someone's taken business classes to learn such specialized jargon like that. Sounds about right though. I would guess that demand volume, and engineering costs work together to increase the per unit sales price for these niche products.

  3. So nobody is using Slide-Glide?

    I do. Yep, I'm a greaser.

    +1

I've been using the S-G light for a while, but it is considerably more messy than oil when it comes time to disassemble and clean, so I am going to swap back to oil and keep it that way. Probably use the free FP-10 I have and Mobil 1 when that is gone.

  4. It's good to hear that you are mentally preparing yourself for the inevitable difficulties you are going to face as a parent of one of us. I was diagnosed my last year in college and wish I had been earlier. After understanding what issues I needed to address specifically school became easy. I had always made an A or B in classes, but after getting medication and counseling/coaching on lifestyle changes suddenly getting a B was a disappointment,

Deciding who is going to be his "coach" might be the hardest decision you will have to make. I know I gave my parents hell for 22 years. When I was diagnosed my mothers exact words were "That explains a lot"

Try and keep up with the latest advances, old ideas about ADD/ADHD are proven wrong every year.

  5. and i hate people that cant stick to schedules the way they are supposed to and it screws up everyone else's day

    +1

and I hate that they see you as overreacting the third or fourth time they cause you to stay 3 hours late because they ignore the schedule EVERYONE else follows. :angry2:

  6. The reticle should be the shitz for 3Gun... Looks like it will really rock for the shorter distances that the huge majority of our shots are taken with the aiming dots for the "occasional" shot at longer ranges. I am trying to get one now....

I'm with you Merlin. But, I'll wait till the black version is out.

Did they mention if the black one will be priced the same as the Midway model? The brown isn't so bad that I would want to pay a premium for the black one. I wonder if brown one is a limited run and will be dropped once the black one is available.

  7. I had the same problem when I first tried the 147gr Precision molys in my M&P. After noticing that a few of them that refused to chamber completely had bare lead exposed right in front of the case I pulled the rest and loaded the next ones much shorter and reduced the charge. Haven't had any problems since. YMMV

Good point BUT, my oal is not a problem in a clean bbl. Refusing to chamber is caused by the buildup of moly after shooting 100 or so rounds.

    Peter

In my case, there was too much bearing surface of the bullet exposed outside the case which was allowing a slight amount of the coating to be scraped off as the bullet engaged the rifling during chambering. Over 50-60 times of this happening enough of the Moly built up in the chamber and throat that it prevented the round from seating.

I'm sure that had I cleaned the barrel I too would have gotten 50-60 more rounds of trouble free firing out of these too long bullets.

One other consideration you should give mind to is if the forcing cone on the .38 might need a slight polish.

Also measure your crimp and only use enough to allow reliable feeding. The moly coating can be cut and shed from the back of the bullet during firing with too tight a crimp.

I hope you figure out your ailment with this bullet type. Since I've gotten mine to run well they have been an affordable pleasure compared to jacketed.

  9. A picture of the reticle is provided right next to the scopes picture on the Midway sight. It's somewhat confusing though. I can't tell if the outer ring in the picture is part of the reticle or if it is supposed to be the outer limit of the FOV.

The image on the Midway sight shows the reticle which is maybe 1/8th of the FOV. The outer ring IS part of the reticle. It works VERY well for shooting the "dot" on close range targets and the BDC goes out to 500 yards (the negative hole in the outer ring being 500 yards for the 62 grain load).

I am not sure in what configuration they may become available in 2011, other than the Midway Exclusive, but I have asked the sponsor rep at Burris and if I get info I can post, will do so.

I know there isn't much detail known yet about this scope, but would I be correct to assume it is in between the Millet DMS ring (12.5 moa) and the Eotec (60 MOA)? Roughly estimating it based on the 500 mark being on the ring seems it would be around 45 MOA give or take depending on zero.

Am I anywhere near the mark?

If so, I'd consider swapping my Millet for one of these if the eye relief and exit pupil are any better.

Looks to be a nice scope though.

  11. Some sort of non-canister grade powder that we very likely don't have access to. The big OEM's load ammo using powder volume, not weight, so it's a major departure from how we load. R,

Isn't the way we meter powder actually by volume too? We just describe the required volume of a given powder by it's weight.

Am I missing something? Could the 10 cases he pulled have had differing weights of powder in them all equaling the same volume?

Not exactly. Right now I'm working up a load with SP2 and, by total coincidence, I'm at 10.8gr. My N105 load is at 10.85gr and takes up way more case volume. They both produce similar velocities. The two weigh almost the same, but the volume is significantly different. An OEM could blend one or both so that they take up the same volume, have different weights, but produce the same pressure/velocity. We just don't have that option. R,

    Thanks G-ManBart,

to the OP....sorry for the mini hijack

  12. I make the custom molded plugs, and with him shooting often they would offer the most protection short of doubling up with muffs.

The plugs that we make on-site can actually be re-coated as he grows to maintain a good seal in his ear canal. I'm not sure where you are located, but try to find a dealer near you and just ask about that. We re-coat plugs for free for junior shooter, not sure about other dealers though.

  14. I don't have nearly the experience as most of these guys, but I'll tell you about my experience so far.

I started with the same plan as yours a little over a year ago. I wanted to shoot a 1911 style pistol in competition and I had a budget very close to yours. Fast forward, to earlier this month, through a lot of reading, shopping and asking questions and.... I shot my first USPSA match Sept. 4th with my new setup, which is a M&P 9 Pro, 3 extra mags, belt, holster, and mag holders. I already had the reloading equipment when I started this. All told, I spent around $1,100 getting my gear together to actually shoot a match. That includes my USPSA membership and the APEX competition trigger kit. I couldn't be happier, although I might be just as happy with a Glock 34 ;). You could probably trim that amount a good bit by going with a used Glock 17 or M&P 9 and less expensive mag holders and holster. You can always get your money back going with a used Glock if you decided to sell it and upgrade later.

Eventually I'll move into Lim or Lim10 and build some type of 1911 or 2011 but for starting out this setup is perfect for me and affordable. YMMV

If your goal is just to get a much nicer handgun with the idea that you might shoot in competition someday, then I agree with all the recommendations for the Springfield Loaded and/or STI Trojan. They are shining examples in their price range of how a proper single stack should be built.

  15. My Dad is getting a set of bifocals made with the magnification for reading above his normal line of sight instead of below. So instead of helping when he looks down to read it helps when he tilts his head forward a bit while looking at the sights. Standard prescription and vision are still available.

This is second hand info. Just hadn't heard anyone else mention doing it.
