  1. gotigers.......Roll Tide and uh, back on topic.

My M&P 9 Pro was shooting 5-6" low @ 10yds shooting 124 gr MG HP using Option 2. After changing to a Dawson .170" front sight, the gun shoots about 1.5-2" higher.

I have since started shooting some 147gr Precision bullets which move the POI up about another 2".

Just for play, I like to shoot at the 14" or so plate at 110yds at my home range. Option 3 for the front/rear sight relationship and Option 1 for the front sight/target relationship will net a satisfying ding 2 out of 5 shots if I do my part.

All this considered, I may order a .160 front sight later this year to get POI up to where using Option 1 is an option with the light bullets. I think it'll work

  2. My M&P pro preferred 5.4 gr of PP was 135 PF with MG 124 JHP, My G34 liked 5.6. My most accurate was 6.0 at 147PF

Talk about sharing data! Thanks Darrell. You covered all 4 powders I am trying with this bullet, plus one I'm not. I assume A.S. is Silhouette.

  3. I loaded some 124gr MG hp over 6.2 grains of Power Pistol just to see what they felt like. To my surprise they were making 155pf out of my M&P Pro and showed absolutely no signs of pressure. The recoil was surprisingly manageable.

Before i start playing with this powder too much I wanted to see if anyone knew of issues with loading it down closer to 130-135 pf using MGs or even a cast bullet? Does it get too inconsistent at lower velocities?

Bring on the wisdom because there has to be a reason it's not being done. This load felt great compared to the 135 pf TiteGroup load I was also shooting that day. <_<

  4. In an attempt to educate myself on the details of 38 TJ, I tried to search for it using "Search section: Forums" and it is returning no matches. I know I have seen it multiple times.

Browsing the threads on recent search problems I decided to try "slide glide" as Brian suggested elsewhere and it works fine.

I'm not one to have issues I can't figure out in most software, but this has me stumped. Any suggestions?

  5. I just put a new upper together with one of the Nordic MLGS barrel. I'm quite pleased with it thus far. It does not have M4 feed ramps so be aware of what type of upper you drop it in...though I don't know that a non-ramped barrel in a ramped upper is anything to sweat about (a ramped barrel in a non-ramped upper is a probable no-go).

It's the other way around. A ramped upper and non-ramped barrel will create a pocket and the bullet tip will catch the outside of the barrel extension.

    :sight:

  6. I have the Troy 13" TRX Extreme which weighs 11.43 oz. IIRC it would be a direct replacement for your forearm using the same barrel nut.

It comes with short sections of rail you can add for accessories. You would need a low profile gas block for the 13", but they make them in 9"(8.46oz), and 11"(9.93oz) also. Very light forearms. VTAC has a version with different styling if you prefer slots to holes.

  7. There is the possibility that if you left out the spacer beneath the primer slide that it wouldn't seat correctly. I would expect the primer tube to give you fits dropping primers in the cup also.

Is the primer system sitting directly on the press frame? There should be a black metal spacer between the frame and priming system.

The spacer isn't shown but I attached a pdf that shows the correct dimensions for the primer slide and it's components when assembled so you can verify it is together correctly before continuing.

Hope you get it running smoothly. It's unnerving to be unsure about the primer setup.

  8. I would consider uniforming the primer pockets and deburring flash holes for the next trip with the 55 gr bullets. I would also load up some heavier bullets with an appropriate powder and give them a go on the same trip. I shoot Berger 73gr bullets over Varget if I want to shoot longer distances and it works like a charm out of my 16" 1:9 twist bbl.

Hope you figure it out. If you don't at least trying will be fun.

    Good luck.

  9. When I was in high school my close friend's Dad built an experimental that looked very close to this one. It was amazing the amount of inspections involved with the build. He spent 3 years building the shop, and the airplane. It's hard to believe the cost of those wooden props.

I hope your father enjoys the build and especially flying it as much as Dennis did.

  10. Stupid people bread like rabbits, smart people (in general) only have 1-2 kids if any. So as I see it, stupid people have a lot of kids and their stupid kids have a lot more stupid kids and so on... we are being over run. :roflol: Two or three more generations is all we have left in the smart pool.

You must also consider the smart people who crossbreed with stupid people. So the degrading numbers are worse than expected.

  11. Patrick,

FWIW, if you want it to fit a pencil bbl profile, I thing you would be disappointed with the Miculek Comp, the Rolling Thunder, and the J.P.. I may be mistaken, but I think they are all around .75" where they meet the barrel shoulder and get larger in diameter.

Here's a picture of the Miculek on my RRA heavy mid-length. The bbl is around .73" where the threads start.

I have seen the SJC Titan comp on a lightweight bbl and it looked right at home. YMMV It's also one hell of a comp.

    I vote for the Titan.

  12. Not sure about CA, but in AL you are expected to report on your state income tax return the value of all items purchased out of state tax free. Then the applicable rate is applied and added to your tax due.

Edited: looked up CA form 540, 540EZ, and 540A. None of them asked for out of state purchases.

  13. Sorry to confuse you but i am not talking about the finishing the slide. I meant to say is there any type of oil or something that could help the rust along with the steel wool?

I have a new routine I have been using on guns that repeatedly get surface rust and it is working well so far. First thing I do is rub it with 0000 steel wool soaked in Hoppe's #9 or a bronze/brass cleaning brush if it is in checkering, serrations or under a vent-rib to remove the rust. Hoppe's removes the rust much quicker than oil.

After that I coat it with break free (or any quality oil w/silicone) and let it soak in overnight. The next day I wipe it clean with a shop rag and apply some gun wax to the entire surface.

I have done this to a BAR, an 870 with dull bluing and a PF-9 that is used for carry. In each case they have remained rust free. I plan to re-apply the wax per the instructions.

This is a little more work and maintenance, but the wax protects from moisture.

  14. I always ask if they would like any help. It usually doesn't take long to figure out the "receptive" ones.

From a habitual shooter that is pretty new to competition, I think this is a good approach to helping us new guys. I'm sure all of you see varying degrees of "I suck and don't know it" from new competitors. I try to be very receptive to advise from more experienced shooters. However, when I come off a stage I am trying to burn that run into my memory and remember everything I saw. I might seem non-receptive then. Let me wind down and re-set/paste targets once or twice before engaging me. It'll make all the difference.

One Hint I drop to the guy that should ask for help, is to point out a few of the people that have helped me. That lets them know its OK

I like this idea too. Sometimes it's hard to approach the more skilled shooters. Especially if you don't already know them.
