  1. From another new shooter....dry fire, dry fire, dry fire.

Concentrate on keeping the sights still until the hammer or striker has fallen. When you go back to the range for live fire, start out with slow fire groups. Concentrate on seeing and executing the same thing you did while dry firing. There is a good chance you are closing your eyes when the gun fires, I did for a long time. Open them wide and intentionally keep them open.

Doing these few things I was able to correct my tendency to push shots low left and keeping my eyes open helped alot.

    Good luck with your practice.

  2. Fwiw, I have loaded wst and n320 and cannot tell a difference, except in price. WST for me in 9 and 40..

Where can I find reloading data on WST. Isn't it another shotgun powder like Solo1K?

I am reloading the similar Precision Moly 147 with WST and Solo1000. They shoot similarly and both meter consistently. They look and smell considerably different though. Yes WST is another fast shotgun powder. I have had quite a hard time finding published data on WST or Solo for the heavy pistol bullets. I have found enough to know where to safely start working up a load using a chrono on here and various other sites on the inter-web.

  3. I'm not sure if it presents any problems, but I always leave primers remaining in the magazine tube.

The biggest problem I see with leaving primers in the tube? When you start a new loading session you should verify your powder charge as it seems most 550's seem to throw the first few charges on the high side after sitting for any length of time. I always start a session by throwing a string or two of ten charges each to verify my charge is still on target.

You can't do the above with primers in the tube as they will just keep feeding.

I get around the primers feeding while testing/changing my powder charge by not pushing the handle past the resting position each cycle. You do need to make sure the powder bar fully returns. I just give a tug to the bottom of the fail-safe rod manually.

  4. The statement below is true.

    The statement above is false.

I'm not sure I know these statements well enough to make a call. I definitely wouldn't want to rely on them.

  5. Mine just showed up a half hour or so ago. Initial impressions are favorable, but it is NOT a true 1X. I would guess 1.1-1.2. You can still shoot it both eyes open though. Its an overcast day here, but max illumination seems very bright.

You can guess, but I put it on the chart and at 50 yards, it is a true 1x.

I do not have this scope, but Iwith my DMS object that I look at inside my house appear larger in the scope @ 1x than with the naked eye, but outside where I can view 20 yds or more things appear to be the same size through the scope and without the scope. I haven't figured that one out yet.

Are you guys comparing objects that are inside 20yds?

  6. You mentioned possibly having trigger work done in the future, but are leery of the factory SRT kit. Gray Guns does a trigger job that reduces the reset to the "shortest possible" using parts they designed IIRC. I haven't shot one, but they seem to have a very good reputation on some boards.

  7. After reading this I had to open my daughter's bedroom door and clear the path from mine to her's. Probably will not sleep well tonight. I'll remember Aryanna's Dad James and Mom Heather in my prayers. I couldn't imagine...

  8. Around here the only people driving them are yuppie liberals. That only makes me dislike them more...

If the only people driving the dangerous, not-so-economic, rolling coffin "smart" cars are the yuppie liberals, what's the problem?

  9. I got screamed and smacked around by my coaches from the time I was a child all the way through college. I survived and I learned that there were consequences for making stupid decisions. Typically, if my coach was screaming at me, I was going to get it twice as bad when I got home. I believe that we should let coaches run their team how they want to run it. I'm sure the girl will be fine. The entire experience will build her character. ;)

Congratulations on the victory and getting to play hero.

I agree; part of the problem with today's youth is too many "free passes".

There is a local league here that in the rules, all of the kids play an equal amount. Everyone is a winner, they are basically put on the field to play the game without any real coaching. As a result, there aren't any "good teams" or "easy teams" they all suck. All the kids are being taught here is that competition is bad, and that hard work and commitment are to be shunned for an emotionally sensitive environment. Those kids will not know what to do in the working world other than file formal complaints because someone made them cry.

Tough coaches can be assertive without jerking little girls and boys around or yelling profanities. Some of the best coaches I had while growing up didn't know how to talk in a normal voice to the ball team. It was an assumed persona as a coach. We had good reason to do our best. If we didn't we got embarrassed in front of everybody watching the game. If we did do well we were praised by everyone.

  10. Not a fan of metal cleats.

Comp-tac or Bladetech for SS holster?

Bladetech, I have been happy with mine.

South of Spain, or South of France

South of France. Cannes and Monaco.........

    Mediterranean or Adriatic.

Mediterranean. No good basis why though.

    Cabo San Lucas or Cozumel

I'm watching the CNBC show right now and am wondering how to retire my 700. I don't want to sell it because I don't want anyone else to be at risk. I loved my rifle until watching this. I know too many people who've had other ND/AD's resulting in harming someone. Handling a rifle with known problems isn't worth taking to the range. Thanks a lot for posting this.

The only thing I see on the website (I will watch the broadcast to see if there are any real facts presented) is that a rifle that is more than likely heavily used has an issue with the trigger not releasing the sear when pulled. This results in the gun firing when the bolt is moved, albeit ever so slightly, AFTER the trigger has been pulled. As soon as a firearm doesn't fire when the trigger is pulled, with safety disengaged, an alarm should go off in the operators head and he/she should keep it pointed in a safe direction until the chamber is cleared. In the case of this agency rifle, it should go directly to the armorer for repair before any other rounds are chambered. To do otherwise is reckless and irresponsible.

What work had been done to this rifle? Who knows. The video also cuts between the rifle operating correctly and when it malfunctions. Why?

For a small fee I will retire that "unsafe rifle" and will give my word that no AD from it will ever harm anyone. (I obey the rules of firearm handling) I don't want anyone to be strapped with a firearm they feel unsure of. It's the least I could

    do.

    ;)

  12. If you are interested in building your own machine, you can get more for your money, and have the option to upgrade it down the road fairly easily. Classic_jon is right in that you really don't want to have to deal with much noise. Short of going on NewEgg and creating a parts list to e-mail to you this link is probably the best thing i can point you to. Read through the article even if you aren't interested in this build, it will make you more aware of your options and/or what features to look for when shopping complete machines.
