  1. Solved... or at least, neutralized.

I had tried this upper on a variety of known-good lowers (I left the upper alone as a "control", because I wanted to narrow down whether it was a spring/buffer issue or a gas/bolt issue). Anyway, it did the same thing no matter what lower it was on, so I figured it wasn't springs, buffers, mags or ammo.

So... I swapped bolt carriers. I took the bolt out and put it into a JP low-mass carrier, fired it up and... it runs like a top. 150 rounds through it with no hiccups, and no changes other than taking the bolt out of one carrier and putting it in another.

So, the Daniel Defense carrier is on the bench for now. At some point when I have "spare time" I'll see if I can figure out why it barfed (too heavy for the gas coming through the tube? different geometry? Sunno) But the main thing is, the rifle is running now.

Thanks for all the great ideas!

Putting the LMOS bolt carrier in a malfunctioning under-gassed upper is one way to "fix" it.

  2. I'm in somewhat the same situation you are. New to me mill with limited (read "no") experience running it. I didn't go small though. My problem is the Cincinnati Cintimill 205 we bought is a little big and has no quill. We did get the vertical attachment but I'm stuck dealing with a NMTB 30 taper with a B&S #21 collet holder.

  3. As for companies I am not completely satisfied with...

Has anyone gotten any type of resolution on the issue of Nordic Components extension tubes not allowing hand cycling of the rounds in the tube?

This issue along with problems I am having with my NC22 upper are getting me to believe that Nordic releases components that aren't reliable for some of their customers.

I'm not sure how the failure of a modified gun to hand cycle a round is is in any way Nordics fault. The extension tube doesn't come in contact or alter the operation of the mechanism in any way. Have you tried polishing the shell stop or adjusting the length of the magazine spring at all? Mine was doing this at first, but after a slight bevel and some liberal polishing in the right spots it immediately got easier. After 350 rounds or so it is much more likely to hand cycle than not. However, to avoid the possible distraction at MR, when staging is allowed, I just load the tube and lock the bolt back. When it's go time I pop a shell in the ejection port and hit the release. Works every time.

    Edited to remove dumbness.

I'd be willing to bet that Nordic would be more than willing to help you with that upper also.

  4. Would the 935 or 930 be preferred? I don't know anything about 3-gun but I'm starting to get the bug. Seems like the magnum version is a bit cheaper, but I don't understand the difference in models. Would either 930 or 935 in a 24" barrel be pretty much the same as every other 93x internally?

    Matt

    Matt,

Since the 935 is chambered to shoot 3 1/2" shells there is the possibility of it having a hard time cycling light 2 3/4" bird shot loads. The 930 is chambered to shoot up to 3" rounds and is tuned to handle light loads through heavy 3" loads. The 935 is also slightly longer and heavier IIRC.

  5. I've been shooting these most of this season. I like them much better than the PM 147s I was shooting before. Not just for the reduced smoke, but my fingers don't get all black and grey when I reload them.

I've been using Solo 1000 (S1k) for match ammo but did load some up with tightgroup (TG), since I have 4lb of it, which worked fine. TG just didn't offer the low SD that I got from S1k. I have a box of his 160gr 9mm to try out too.

Good luck, I think you'll be happy.

  6. first time to restore a backup in this new budgeting and planning software. I've been working for two months to get this program into use and a corrupt backup sends the DB down the poop shoot.

  7. My parents gave me a Daisy Powerline 880 BB gun when I was 7 or 8 and a 10-22 when I was 11. I decided I needed a shotgun when I was 12 or 13 and my dad agreed to pay for half if I paid the other half. Bought a Remington 870. The next summer I saved the money up and had my Dad buy a S&W 422 for me, then he gave me a Browning BAR in 30-06 either that Christmas or the next for hunting deer. I still have each one. Since those some have come and gone, but I'll never part with the first ones.

  8. I'm looking to buy a used vehicle from an individual and am wondering about the accuracy of these reports. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Pat

If I'm not mistaken, those reports pull their info primiarily from dealer service records. I do know that the car I'm driving has had a new front bumper and one new headlight installed and the carfax reported no accidents. Bought it from a Toyota dealer who had it as a trade-in and sold it new to the original owner. She must have had the bodywork done elsewhere.<_<

  9. Anyone with a 930 ever have success filling a 10 round tube and getting the shell to come out of the mag tube to chamber by hand?

Trying to understand this. Are you talking about loading the mag tube to capacity then cycling with the bolt repetitively until empty?

Exactly. Shells stay in the tube-period. Benny thinks it's too much spring. I cut mine all the way down to same length as the tube and the shells still stay in the tube.

I don't have one to look at. Is the consensus that there is too much pressure on the shell stop for it to function correctly?

Yeah. When the tube is full, you cannot get a shell to come out of the tube when you run the bolt. It always works when you fire the gun but not by hand.

I usually put one in the chamber, fill the tube, and run it :)

    Take care,

    Dave

I have this same issue with mine. It was a little embarrassing the first couple of times I fumbled around for 30 seconds or so trying to get my "staged" shotgun ready at a local match. I have since been loading the number of shells I needed in the tube to stage it, then pulling the bolt back far enough to pop one in from my pocket when it's my turn. Maybe after it's got a couple thousand rounds through it I'll try again. This works for now though.

Otherwise my 930 has been very good to me. It really deserves someone who can shoot it better.

  10. Well, but you sync up an iPad to iTunes the same way as an iPhone or iPod touch, with the supplied 30pin to usb cable. You import your pdf's into iTunes where they would be listed as books, and then when you sync, the books go over to the iPad where you access them with the built-in iBooks app. If the budget range is $350 upwards to $650, there's no question in my mind; iPad wins hands down. There are SO MANY MORE apps available for iPad than there are for android. That being said, $99 for a HP touchpad... well, so-so reviews aside, how horrible can it be for $99? That's worth getting one just to see what the operating system is like.

Suppose he's on-site and needs to save a document that is provided on a usb stick. I'm sure it would be possible to get it on itunes through the clients computer IF they had internet access. If not, out comes the laptop.

    :sight:

  11. I think for what you are wanting you would enjoy an Android based tablet. I recommend them over an ipad because they allow you to use usb connections instead of being wireless exclusively. As someone else mentioned, if you can find an HP they are a steal. Otherwise I think you are looking at $350-$650 for newer models running Honeycomb,

Good luck making a decision before technology changes enough that you have new products to consider in each format. I hate deciding what to buy when it comes that time with this type of thing.

  12. I attend a match that is 1.5 hours away each month. Another monthly is 15 min and there are two that I rarely attend that are 30 min away and 1 hr away. Which weekend they are held on is the biggest concern for me. One range is considering a monthly 3-gun match. It is 2 hours away and that is about as far as I will go for a monthly match.
