  1. Doug, You da man - I was at both shows today, sorry I missed that Big Stick. Wanna sell it ? lol
  2. Steel Master - 9MM Minor Match Master - 9x19 or 38 Super
  3. Grocery Store "brass cleaner" (a few caps full) Does this Grocery Store "brass cleaner" contain amonia ? If so you may want to do a little research on amonia and what effects it has on brass. Just a thought.
  4. for what it may be worth my STI Targetmaster has a huge preference for 135 grain roundnose hardcast lead over any other weight no matter what powder/primer oal etc i tried. I have also noticed it prefers them set as long as possible, mine are at an OAL of 1.168, case neck diameter .380 Shared knowledge and experiences are most appreciated. Thanks
  5. I think my suject line should have been - How consistant are your 9mm minor hardcast loads ?
  6. Boats, Thanks for your input . I need a barometer of sorts so as to gauge my expectations. How consistant are the groups of your loads? Like you, my needs are for a steel load, but with the group opening up this much after 50 rounds - I don't know if that is normal - or if my expectations are too high. My frame of reference is skewed after punching paper for many years. One hole performance is not expected, BUT is a group that expanded from one hole, to 1.75 inches after 50 rounds acceptable as a starting point ? Is this normal with a cast bullet and a steel gun ? Is this acceptable ? If it is normal and acceptable for steel use I'm fine with that. Just need a starting point. Thanks again
  7. After being away from pistol shooting for many years , I am back (big time} I need to work up a load for 9mm minor with a hardcast bullet (no plated no moly} I looked to my local bullet casters to see what was available. I chose Mastercast as a place to start. They have a 9mm 125Gr CN bullet . They offer this bullet as reloaded ammo as well. So I picked up a few boxes of their reloads, to see if they would run in my gun, and they run flawlesly. I benchrested the first 3 rounds to see how they would group - at 50ft - 3 shots - one hole. As a former Bullseye shooter I was really impressed. After 50 rounds I decided to see if accuracy was the same. I shot 5 rounds from a benchrest. The group opened up to 1.5 inches. I have some concerns with the pattern opening up this much after only 50 rounds and I am looking for opinons as to weather I should work up a load for this bullet. I realize using factory reloads may be the issue - mixed brass etc. I examined the barrel after shooting - some leading was evident but not excessive. Here's all the info regarding the question - Gun - STI Steelmaster Factory Reloads -9MM 125 Gr CN 1050 fps
  8. I believe an Aimpoint would do the trick and they have a 10 yr factory warranty.
  9. I got to handle a G20 over the weekend. I believe it will do the job. Thanks, to all
  10. Thanks guys for your input. I need to clarify what I want to do. As my intro to Open - I wanted to build an economical gun. I picked a Glock as a starting point based on reliabilty, availability of aftermakrt parts and ease of perfoming a lot of the work myself. When handling a G17 ( I want to start with 9mm) my observations were - The web of my hand was in the path of the slide - (not good) The gun points high for me - (not good) Thus the Conversation with Jim Shanahan to address these issues. In my conversation with Jim, I asked if a blue gun type sample of these mods was available - Jim did not have one. So I was trying to find a shooter who had these mods done (hopefully within a reasonable driving distance of Pittsburgh Pa) so I could check it out. I have not purchased anything to this point, and I am pondering if this is the best way to proceed. I hope this clarifies my goal - and as always - I welcome your input.
  11. Flex, My concern is to talk with someone that has had these mods made to the grip, and how those mods have worked out for them.
  12. I have talked to Jim Shanahan (great guy) about grip mods for my upcoming Glock Open gun. My hand is too large for the Glock grip - so the complete recontour pkg. plus beavertail would need to be done. If anyone in or near the western PA - eastern OH area has had a similar modification done - Please let me know. I'd really like to check it out. Thanks
  13. calishootr, are you using large or small nut wizard picker-upper ?
  14. Craig, The auto setting is the same as the original Fast Fire. The only weakness in it's design - IMHO PGH So it's auto if it's ON? I thought there was a separate position for it. Mine doesn't seem to make much difference. Maybe they are all that way. Craig Craig, I have had both the original and the Fast fire II - if it's on it should automatically adjust. There should be a noticeable difference in it's brightness in different lighting conditions. Take a look at your dot both indoors and outside. If there is not a significant difference your unit may have an issue. PGH

  16. I have the first generation like Garrett but I have the opposite problem, I think mine is too bright! I shoot at an outdoor range that has an overhang so I'm not sure if it's reading the light dimmer from the overhand or what but it always seems to glare at me more than I'd like. I too wish it had an adjustment on it, but other than that it's been a solid sight and seeing as I have it mounted on a .22 I havn't had any issues with the recoil turning it off complaint that others have had. Is waterproofing the only upgradef feature for the FastFire II? In a recent conversation with the Burris Tech. Rep. I was told that the circuitry has been beefed up in addition to the waterproofing. I agree that some type of brightness control ( a lock perhaps ) would be a welcomed addition. I have a question for those using them on Glocks - are you using a slide mount or rail and your reasons ?
