I understand the revolver being a small division and all, but what may be billed as the largest USPSA match in the country did not bring in enough round gunners to establish a division just kind of takes me by surprise.

Now, with that being said . I have a tendency to agree with Hops statement above. I know for me when USPSA adopted the 8 shot revos, myself along with a handful others in our area promptly sold our customized 625's and just wrote revo's off. For us it was not our main Division , but we did enjoy shooting the round guns from time to time. Enough to put a suitable rig together to compete. But, investing another 1200 to 2500 in round gun stuff for a sometime enjoyable division to shoot in crossed the line for me. Not to mention the loss in value with our custom 625's  as only USPSA shooters valued there custom features.

Can anyone report revolver growing in their area due to 8 shot cylinders allowed? My surrounding area may just be unique in this.

Seattle area is down to 2 regular shooters, but, they are damn good shooters.  My friends and I let it go

The PPQ is nice but has some flaws for action shooting. It recoils more than the competition and results in slower splits. The grip is pretty slick. That seems to be the consensus by just about everyone that tries them for action shooting. The trigger is awesome but considering what you can do to glock and m&p triggers it kind of makes that a mute point.

Then I guess we won't talk about it

I sometimes carry a loaded speed strip in my other pocket, but truth be told, I don't really plan to reload my snub in a defense situation.  If he's still up at that point, I think I will begin negotiations.

  4. Standing reloads are not a fun part of any division! Standing reloads suck.

Your opinion. It was a part of the division that caused greater complexity and risk vs reward math. Just because you didn't like it...doesn't mean it needed fixing.

With standing reloads and Revolver shooters that didn't whine we once had a 90% revo squad that flew through stages so quickly compared to open and limited squads.

There may be a few true purists out there, but most of the people who bitch about the "death of the 6-shooter" are really just whining about having to spend money on new equipment. There's really no other reason to complain about it. Going to 8 rounds between loads makes the game way more fun--yet still plenty challenging compared to any other division.

Going to eight rounds made it into a more single stackesque game. So how many folks went over to single stack as opposed to going out an buying an eight shot?

No consideration was given to the nature of the game changing because the folks that wanted the change so badly already had eight shots(Carmoney and friends) or were already eight shot programmed(Leatham and friends). We can't blame Jerry because he knew his days were over and just walked away. The rest of us didn't have 8 shots. I had .38's, .357's, .40's, 10mm's, and .45's ALL IN SIX SHOT. I am not whining about buying new equipment as I enjoy my 929's, but I think it was IGNORANT and FOOLISH to have made it a NECESSARY EVIL which killed the six shot minor. No MD ever has cared to do a six shot neutral COF so congratulations on writing the six shot revolver into the USPSA history books. I know a guy who made GM with six shot minor. There's no way to do that now.

The only real challenge remaining is the trigger pull as opposed to a semi. Your revolver will not show you the love like an M&P9 if you pull it out and just go to a match without any practice after a few months.

I am never going to let people forget who ruined Revolver. Same lines as when you pushed for the change. Those who oppose it are whiners they don't understand how this is a good thing...there will be a great surge in participation... There sure wasn't any surge in participation where I shoot. The Great Leap Forward!

    +1

I lost friends in the division who had their equipment obsoleted so stopped shooting. I stopped with them even though I owned 4 8 shots (so it was not an equipment issue with me. personally). But telling people to go and spend a grand to keep shooting the division was no way to grow it. Trying to tell people that their equipment was still competitive (especially at the local level) or to "take the challenge" was intellectually pathetic.

Changing "the Nationals" to a minor. one day event appended to the Single Stack with limited courses stuck in PASA to benefit a certain select few made traveling to it unappetizing to me. People seem to be figuring that one out now.

Just when you think you might want to come back, the Memphis Charity Classic, which as originally run would have been a great "Nationals", has become a series of one day same courses which now includes "single stack"

There still has not been a true test of Revolver division. A stand alone, multi day, major match. Open it up with 2 classes: *8 shot minor and, if there are any of them left, 6 shot major/minor. Hell, add in an open class.

If you want to expand participation, that is all that can be done.

  5. I shoot revolver primarily, and even use it in the local 3gun matches that I participate in. My USPSA, IDPA, and Steel Challenge revolver is a Ruger Alaskan loaded with 45 Colt. My 3gun revolver is a S&W 625.

I have been participating in shooting sports since 2005 and with the exception of 1 IDPA match using a Beretta 92D, I have used a revolver. I have yet to burn out, but that is because of several factors. First of all I don't shoot as many matches as I would imagine several of you do (that have felt burn out), and that is due to shooting sports being my secondary hobby. I was a collegiate varsity athlete back in the late eighties in the sport of fencing, and I primarily compete in those matches. After a decade off after college I came back to the sport in December of 1999. From 2000 through 2015 I have qualified for 15 of the 16 US Fencing Nationals, and competed in 13 of them (I did not qualify in 2008, and could not make the trip in 2014). I qualified for the US Fencing Nationals This year (qualifying my 16th time :D)and will be competing in two events (I usually qualify and compete in 2-4 events).

Sorry for drifting from the core question....

Anyway I compete in sport shooting in addition when I have the time. I have competed in local, a number of state/sectional matches, Area 6 this year, and Revolver Nationals once. The variety of activity with both fencing and shooting sports keeps me from getting burned out on either.

I am considering shooting Revolver and Single Stack at the Memphis Charity Challenge this coming October, but only because I am able to compete in both for score on different days. I currently hold to using a 6 shot revolver, and have no interest in obtaining an 8 shot revolver. That may change, but I don't think anytime soon.

It is a bit disheartening to see the small contingent of revolver shooters at most matches, but I choose to keep shooting revolver in matches no matter the number of fellow revolver shooters.

  6. I get to shoot My 38 super revo once a month as there are a few revos come out for that. Sometimes I shoot my Open gun. 38 super Revo with a dot. And once in a great while I have a 38 Super Semi Caspian. It will fire 9mm, 9X21, 38 super and I have not tried the supercomp in it but believe the smaller rime would be a bit of a prob. That Caspian just runs..

  7. It was. Fail to see the topic?

It wasn't. Fail to read the whole thread? I can't believe I am doing this.

    First this:

They are new and a low volume make / model. I would suspect that over time the price would come down.

I doubt it will come down much. I bought a ppq m2 and a navy when they first came out and they look like they are about the same price today. Walthers have always been a bit pricey.

I've seen PPQ's in the mid to upper $400's lately. I don't recall seeing them that cheap when they first came out. However, you're probably right about the Q5. At the very least, it will be a couple of years before there is a substantial drop in price, if at all.

Wow really? In the mid 4's?

I got rid of my ppq's over a year ago and kind of regreted selling them. Might be a good time to grab one! The market is over saturated with guns...

I swear I saw them on sale at a LGS for $459 a month or two back. I could be misremembering that price (since I was only looking for a 5" and it wasn't on sale), but I know that Osage County Guns is selling them for $499 right now on gunbroker.

Seems pretty clear to me. Not sure why the snarky comment was needed.

Not necessary, I agree. The thread was about the particular firearm, though

    wrong gun

What's the "wrong gun"? I was responding to the comment about seeing PPQ's for mid to high $400s. I wasn't talking about the Q5 if that's what you're saying.

It was. Fail to see the topic?

  9. Down to 2 regular (but excellent) shooters in mine (though I cannot honestly attribute that directly to the 8 shot rule). Soon to be 3. What has been lost in my area are the casual revolver shooters. The northwest had a tradition in the fall where somebody would call an unscheduled revolver shoot and people would just show up with their revolvers. There were a few people that would get a wild hair and just show up sometimes at any given match. That doesn't happen much anymore.

What is the extent of your increase? Is it reflected nationally? I am all for it, if true. Do you attribute it to the fact that 8 shot is easier? Any theory has to why nationals participation tanked?

  10. I give up. I had too many makeup shots in single stack.... minor it is.

The intelligent choice. The further down the skill level you get, the more advantage the 8 has. When you get to me forget about it. Congratulations to TGO on his win and the perspicacity to not "accept the challenge" and shoot major 6. High major was Shannon Smith who is a Grand Master in every other class and finished 26th. Face it. The eight shot killed the 6 shot competitively in this division as predicted by many.

I prefer to think of it as "the 8 shot saved the division."

How? Has participation increased? Or does it just make it more interesting (and saved it) for you? I know people that have left. I had direct communication with Strader in which he said that the division was never in jeopardy

  12. IMHO: A lot of people will give shooting major at a competitive revolver match lip service but no one with a brain wishing to achieve their best result will do so. Just saying. Major is essentially dead in revolver division. Your 625 was obsoleted a couple of years ago.

  13. From my knowledge the 21 gen4 and 41 are the same frame so the magwell for a 21gen4 will work just fine.

From my "knowledge" also but when you actually order the mag well the 41 is not listed. I contacted Carver to be sure and they did not respond so I did not order. Now, I will wait for the more compact mag well

  14. Saw/handled one today. They had manufacturer's open house at one of our LGSs.

Only difference from a standard 5", was the comp sights, (fiber optic front), extra ports in the slide, and the optic mount. Rep said the trigger was the same, except for the color.

So not really a big deal unless you want optics

Thanks for bailing me out. I didn't go to the Walther event fairly close to me. My ardor diminished when I heard the Randy Lee trigger wasn't going into it. The MSRP is high for what they have added imo unless you really want to go optics division
