  1. It's not really possible to get fast by practicing slow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Sure, but if you're executing it well, the reload is completed in the first step of your movement anyway.
  3. I mostly agree, but to be fair, healthy tendons almost never spontaneously rupture without something catastrophic happening. Guy in question likely had finger issues for a long time that he just attributed to soreness then continued past the warning signs his body gave him.
  4. Not participating, but coaching a lot of people through it.
  5. Gradually increase your speed until your hits are compromised, then hold that speed until your accuracy catches up. Rinse, repeat. Faster does not mean sloppier.
  6. If you want to have strong hands, start rock climbing.
  7. Donovan, if you think the draw is on par with the snatch for physical complexity, my guess is you've never snatched before. The snatch does indeed require pinpoint accuracy, among many many other things. A quarter inch either way is more than enough to results in a missed lift. I agree that looking towards bio-mechanics to improve your shooting is a very good idea, but I don't know that comparing the time of getting under the bar in a snatch to the time of drawing a pistol is comparing apples to apples.
  8. You don't think having to accurately and quickly manipulate a firearm under the stress of fatigue and being out of breath is a test of shooting skill? Really? If anything, under those conditions the true foundations of your ability are readily apparent.
  9. Let's do it. I'm game, and I'm a really shitty runner lol. I think all of it, regardless of what it is, is only a distraction from the shooting. The problem isn't that physical challenges are unreasonable, the problem is that the average USPSA member doesn't think fitness and practical shooting should go together. I strongly disagree with that sentiment.
  10. After thinking about it, I don't think an unrealistic non-shooting requirement exists.
  11. Steroid enhanced bodybuilder or not, I bet the new Conan has never come close to a 700 pound deadlift like Arnold.
  12. Moderately bent and externally rotated (as always).
  13. Waiting for my flight out of Detroit now. See you guys in a few days.
  14. Good thing NCAA rules are so fair and equitable.....
  15. What a great match. It was awesome to be on the range again and see a lot of old friends. Thanks again to all the sponsors and staff. Chris, I really look forward to the next battle. It could easily go either way.
  16. I'm just spit-balling here, but unarmed combat with a bear is something I would seek to avoid.
  17. Ummm...can you cite me some examples of insanity in the rulebook? Again, like what? I think that a properly structured, marketed, and ran nationals (our flagship match) would do far more for promoting our sport than anything USPSA HQ could logistically manage on a local/regional level.
  18. Hold on, let me re-look at your OP. So...the title of the thread is "Why are Nationals so important to USPSA?", and in your multi-questioned original post you mention the USPSA president once in a statement (to which it has already been stated the president's solely responsible for nationals and USPSA everyday operations are ran by the executive director) and then ask 5 questions about the purpose/value of the nationals. Then you state nationals isn't very important for you and that you care about local/section matches. Sorry, I thought I had pretty darn direct sight of your original question.... Hopefully you can see where I was coming from. To answer your question of why it is the single most important reason, that is because it is a primary responsibility of that position.
  19. Ok remo, since you (and others) quite obviously dislike my comments in the thread, let me ask you these questions. If we are putting too much into Nationals because most of our membership will never compete/win, how should the Nationals be run? How much time/money should be devoted to it? And BTW, the comment about the Superbowl doesn't stop with only NFL players, as I'm pretty sure football is bigger than just the pro level. Similar to how USPSA is bigger than just GMs.
  20. But, why does the Superbowl matter when 99.9999% of football players will never compete in it?!?!? Area matches are definitely not Nationals. I expect the stage count and design to be far better at the premier match of the year than at area matches. Also, ALL the top shooters compete at Nationals. A fraction compete at area matches.
  21. remo, Your statement sounds a lot like "I don't care about Nationals, so why should anyone else?" If you don't care about it, it is outside the realm of my ability to explain to you why I do care about it.
