  1. I have the Ghost pouches I use for Production. They are pretty nice for the money. All my other mag pouches are DAA but I went with the Ghost for my Production rig. I set them bullets out (comes with two pouches, 1-bullets out, 1-bullets forward) and it really felt odd for a while but I'm getting used to it. By setting them bullets out, you have more room between mags to grab them. You don't save any room on the belt since the belt attachment is the same but if you set them bullets forward, you need more space each pouch to easily grab each mag. The price is really good and retention is pretty good.

  2. I think the rule clearly states this. When I took my RO class, Goerge talked exactly to this. If he puts a rug down, it's a procedural.

    Rule 4.5.1

Really? This rule is meant to stop shooters from putting marks on the ground for their positions, moving the stage items, or gaining an advantage of some sort hence the procedural. Putting a small rug down to stop the mags from getting beat up is a reasonable request. As long as it doesn't give the shooter any sort of competitive advantage or changing the surface for shooters after them, I just don't see it. I see this the same as putting a rug down for prone positions or using something to protect your knees on kneeling positions.

Furthermore, if it would be something that has a procedural before the buzzer, it would be easy enough for the RO not to start the shooter so no procedural. I'm not arguing with you but I just don't see this as being reasonable and with the intent and spirit of that rule.

  3. MBX will not take care of the problem. They will tell you tough luck, should have bought Brazos. They also don't care if you bought extra springs to have on hand either. So I have 8 13 coil springs that are not worth a crap and 3 d printed followers which are the same.

TTI stepped up to take care of people with problems, he has done more than MBX.

Have you contacted MBX and given them the chance to rectify the problem?

  4. I am trying the Bayou 105's next. Donnie says the accuracy is better with these. Anyone try these yet.

I have some at home if you want some to test with before you order any from Donnie.

I can donate some of my MG 95 JHP if you guys want to play with them. I haven't been shooting SC much lately and got some laying around.

  5. That's correct. 6.5.3 just states the match has ended when the MD has declared the scores are final. For the competitors, they may be more interested in 9.8.2 and 9.8.3 (provisional results published after all competitors have finished and posted conspicuous place at the range; if competitor detects an error, has 1 hour to file appeal with Stats).

  6. A lot of top smiths have said that a true trigger job will always be better than a drop in or a kit. That being said I've never compared a Burwell trigger to the Apex forward set stuff.

On the other hand, I have heard people who have two apex triggers, one installed by apex and one installed by themself, the Apex installed trigger was/is better.

I think this is just about an absolute. I really like the Apex kits and have several of them. If you do nothing else and drop them in, they will be good but can be made better. For example, on one of them, I had to file the trigger tab so it disengaged at the right time and not rub. Would it work without doing this? Sure. Will it be the best it can be? No. It's the same with my JP triggers on my ARs - the JP triggers installed by them are much better than the drop-in kits they sell.

So you can have a great trigger that is drop in if you put in a little extra work to make sure it is the best it can be.

  7. Why have a hate area of a discussion forum that you can't discuss in? Why doesn't this get removed or the rules changed to allow something to go on except a statement or two? If you look at the percentage locked threads, this has got to be the highest. It's like entrapment... :) No hate here, just don't see a need for it.

  8. I am the MD for this match and it was indeed a safety call. There were nearby lightening strikes, I winds and heavy rains. Two or three bays flooded completely to where the fault lines were under murky water. Shortly after clearing the range a large tree fell near the shooting area on one bay.

We made the option to finish shooting after waiting a reasonable amount of time for the weather to lighten up. It did not let up and dusk was upon us. The option to shoot the following day was provided and many took advantage of that.

While a shooter might feel the risk for them is worth finishing a stage it was our responsibility to ensure the safety for everyone. Including the 40 staff in attendance.

I am sorry you did not get to finish but this was extraordinary circumstances.

Sounds like you made the right call then...I think most of us would have done the same thing.

To the OP, this is something you have to think about when traveling for matches (plan for next day shooting due to weather).

  9. I have 3 170's 9mm none of which run. I have tried Gram's guts with no luck. Those running TTi springs and followers did you have to modify anything? My 4 9mm 140's are not running either. My .40 mags I have running reliably with Gram's guts. Any insight to get the 9mm's working? TTi springs and followers?

Have you contacted MBX (Adrian) yet? I'm sure he'll take care of you.

  10. I am having a new open gun built and it will be ready in a few months and my gunsmith recommended these mags. After reading through this thread I was understandably skeptical. So instead of buying five of these mags when my gun is ready I just bought one now to run in my current open gun. Just got it last week and so far so good. I am able to fit 24 9mm right off the bat. Only ran about 200 rounds but flawless none the less. I will be running it this weekend at the Ohio Buckeye Blast match. I will post an update after the match.

What does your follower look like? (Flat or stepped?)

If by stepped you mean textured then yes. Please clarify if that is not what you mean.

No, there is literally a step, I'll get a pic up soon on it...

  11. Just made the switch from bullets forward to out. Went with ghost pouches on daa belt. Have not shot any matches with it yet but in dryfire it feels great. Maybe a little faster, I think it feels a little more consistent. Which is great.

One more thing, was mentioned above. With the ghost pouch there is no noticeable space savings moving to out from forward. They use the same mount for either pouch so it's purely a preference on mag positioning for the draw

The base is the same but the pouches are almost twice as long as they are wide so that gives you some more space for fingers to get in between them to retrieve them.

  12. I just started shooting Production and because so many mags are needed, I looked at trying Bullets Out to save space. After a week of dryfire and one match, I think I'm getting the hang of it. I still feel like my wrist is really twisting hard to get to the mags. It doesn't feel as natural and I don't feel as fast yet but I think I can be competitive with it. It just really keeps the mags at a good distance on the belt so by the time you get to the third or fourth mag, you're not reaching into your lower back to get it. When I go back to Open, I will move to Bullets Forward again though.

  13. Only a million people...

Its a slow open major powder, one of the 3 powders that 9mm open major can use. Don't use it for 9mm minor or 40, sell it to an open shooter. He will be forever grateful. :)

    jj

Three powders? I can think of about 6 that 9mm open major can use.

Yeah, me too and actually a few more.

    Wow, old thread.

  14. At Area 6 we had a stage where a GM shot it first and everyone after that shot it the same way. When I shot it, I shot it different because it worked better for me. other times I'll see someone shoot and think "why didn't I think of that?". The more I shoot and the less I depend on other's ideas. If I'm shooting with good friends we sometimes develop / debate plans. Sometimes we shoot it the same, sometimes not since we shoot to our strengths.

    +1 ^^^^^

  16. Technically, I THINK you can even ship the serialized part to the manufacturer or a gunsmith, and receive it back from the same, even without you having an FFL...somebody correct me if I am wrong plz...

    jj

That is correct. Here is the regulation from UPS on it:

Special Procedures for Shipping Firearms UPS accepts packages containing firearms (as defined by Title 18, Chapter 44, and Title 26, Chapter 53 of the United States Code) for transportation only (a) between licensed importers, licensed manufacturers, licensed dealers, and licensed collectors (as defined in Title 18, Chapter 44 of the United States Code), and government agencies and (B) where not otherwise prohibited by federal, state or local law (i) from an individual to a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector; and (ii) from a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector to an individual. Packing and Labeling Requirements for Firearms All firearms must be shipped in new corrugated packaging which meets the UPS Single Wall Box Strength Guidelines.

All firearms are to be packaged in accordance with UPS Packaging Guideline Specifications. Ammunition must be shipped separately from packages that contain firearms (including handguns).

Packages containing handguns must be separated from other packages tendered to UPS for delivery.

The shipper must use Delivery Confirmation Adult Signature Required service for each package containing a firearm, including a handgun, and affix a UPS label requesting an adult signature upon delivery.

The labeling and outer box markings on all firearms shipments should not identify the contents as containing a firearm. Labeling, including the shipper's and consignee's abbreviated names on the shipping label or air shipping document, must be non-descriptive.
