    Bullseye

I actually have a couple of pretty good bullseye guns that I bought from a bullseye shooter. My rimfire gun is a Ruger that has had trigger work and an Ultradot scope added and my centerfire is a Glock open gun with a Cmore. I have a Caspian 1911 in 45 with an ultradot also. I just thought it would be fun to try shooting the centerfire portion of our match with a revolver. The problem will occur when I have to shoot 5 rounds in 10 seconds. It might have to be double action shooting in that sequence. Thanks for all the comments. Mike

    Bullseye

We have started an informal Bullseye match at my range. I have a couple of decent guns but thought a revolver would be fun to try. We have a rimfire section and a center fire section. Accuracy and the ability to mount a red dot are my main concerns. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks Mike
  3. Sorry, getting old. Lost track of where I was. Re-posted below.

Thanks for the information. That looks like a nice set-up.

    Bullseye

I am thinking of using my 625 for some bullseye shooting and want to mount a red dot. I am thinking Ultradot and wondered about the prefered method of mounting this scope. Thanks
  6. First, let me state that I live in the country and have no close neighbors who had to witness this event. Here goes. Thursday afternoon I spent several hours on my bush-hog. It is already August hot here in LA (Lower Alabama) so I decided to use our outside shower to clean up and cool off. The shower was great. My wife was now home from work and decided she wanted to shower so she entered the shower as I left. I took one step outside, glanced to the right and saw a LARGE diamondback rattler 4 steps ( I measured later) away on the grass of our back yard. I calmly (yea, right) told my wife not to come out of the shower, that there was a big rattlesnake in the yard. We have two new little kittens that were running around my feet, so I grabbed the first one I could catch and put it in the kennel on our porch. My wife had assesed the situation and decided the snake was far enough away for her to come out and grab the other cat. She rescued him and joined me on the porch. My next action was to run in the house and grab a weapon. My 22 rifle was closest, so I picked it up and went back out on the porch. By this time I had lost my towel, (sorry for this mental image) and was standing there on the porch aiming my rifle at the snake while in the nude. Of course, since the rifle had been in the cool house, the scope fogged up. Back in I go and grab our old police trade in 38 special. It is loaded with alternating rounds of snake shot and cowboy lead ammo. The snake has now crawled just outside the fenced in area and is close to our fire pit. I make my way to the fence, still in a state of un-clothedness and manage to dispatch the creature with one shot to the head. After regaining my senses a little I realize I am running around in an embarassing condition and someone might drive by. I go inside, clothe myself and take care of getting rid of the snake. I later told my wife that I sure was glad she did not have a camera. Think about it, I had just taken a cold shower and then nearly stepped on a BIG snake. I am sure shrinkage was at it's worst. Hope you all have a great weekend. Mike
  7. I heard Glock is coming out with a revolver.
  8. Maybe instead of moonclips, we could each have six 625's and just holster and draw a new gun as needed. Just a thought. Mike

    617

There is a 617 at a local shop that I have been eyeing and I had a quick ammo question. I have a lot of Eley ammo that I use for my 22 benchrest shooting. Much of it consists of test lots that were not quite good enough for my benchrest rifle. This ammo has a coating of lubricant and I just wondered if I would have any problems using it in the 617? It is kind of expensive for plinking but should be accurate.

    Pro Ears

They will probably work well with my big ol melon.

    Pro Ears

I am tired of my Peltor's with the one bad side and want some new hearing protection. My thinking currently is a set of Pro Ears, but I would like opinions before I make the purchase. Thanks Mike
  13. I will add a WooHoo go Purdue to this topic. Although I am an Auburn Grad (usually not much to brag about in basketball season)I spent two weeks at Purdue getting some education in Nuclear Pharmacy. In my mind that gives me the right to be a Purdue fan during basketball season. So I say, GO PURDUE!!!!
  14. Sorry for your loss. You are in my prayers.

    Glock 30

UPDATE I found a good deal on a G30 SF and bought it. I will shoot it the end of this week and let you folks know how it goes. It will be factory ammo, so I am hoping for no problems. On another topic, I am getting going with re-loading and wondered what loads you folks use for your GSSF 45's. I have a lot of 230 gr and am thinking of using Clays. Thanks

    Glock 30

I have thought of that, but I will have to add another caliber if I want to shoot Major-sub. My thought was, since I only shoot a couple of categories at a time, I could use the one gun (30) to shoot Major-sub and subcompact, put it away and then shoot the remaining categories with the 9 mm guns. Maybe if I kept them seperated that way the confusion would be less.

    Glock 30

Just wondering if any of you folks shoot GSSF? I do not have a Glock to shoot major-sub and am thinking of getting a 30 and using it in that category and sub-compact. I have a 26 that I am shooting sub-compact with, but thought maybe using one gun for two categories would help simplify things a bit. I currently shoot a 17 in amature, 34 in competition, 26 in sub-compact and have an unlimited gun to shoot in that category. Thanks for any opinions. Mike
  18. Thanks everyone. I think a 617 will be the next revolver on my list. I appreciate all the replies.
  19. Thanks for the responses. I think maybe the 617 will be next. Those re-loaders look like fun.
  20. what revolvers would you consider essential to a good collection. The only revolver I have is a 625 that I had Carmonized but I want to start collecting a few. I want a 686, but after that I do not know. Some of the smaller frame guns are appealing, but I am not sure which are the best shooters. My truck gun is a Glock 26, but I would like a small revolver to carry. All opinions appreciated. Mike

    617

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will just keep looking for a good 10-shot.

    617

If I found a great deal on a six shot 617 can it be converted to a 10 shot with a just a change of cylinders? Thanks
  23. I am no expert, but I would say check with Mike Carmoney. I do not think the JM is the way to go and he will steer you in the right direction. He is a frequent poster and has a link to his business just above the classifieds.
  24. Yea, these revolver folks are awfully good folks. They are very free with good advice and extra gear, especially if you are just getting going. Just do not mention AARP. I did and BOY was that a mistake!!
  25. And when you get really good, you can be called a Master Ankle Snub Shooter!!
