  1. I have ended up drilling the .90 x 165 front site for installing a large diameter red insert in it andfilled all the edges down and round then raising the rear all it will go with some green locktight on it so it won't leave me and still holding the front site ontop of the rear site for 25 yard shooting and split the sed dot for 15yard. Ain't even gona try 50 yards.
  2. uncle fester see if this helps . Remember mine is a 10mm. Start longer and trim till it cycles by hand first.
  3. A very smart person here told me to use a piece of a stock 1911 spring in with your stock spring to slow the last bit of the slide just before ejection. The heavier springs do work but also drive the slide forward harder and quicker than designed. As i was told start with a 1" peice and keep cutting it down till you can first pull back far enough to chamber a round and then cycle reliable. My 40s&w would also toss brass around 25 feet plus and i now have 3 rings of the 45 spring ( 1/2") about. and that has kept my brass to about 10 to 12' feet.
  4. Barry with 38super at 36.500 and 9-23mm at 40,000 all on the same base diameter you should be able to but with some recoil spring changes. Got to be someone hear shooting 9-23 in a 38super barrel or have some feedback ? Try a search for 9-23 in a witness and see what pops up.
  5. Other than the obvious contact the ammo maker and see how the +P+ stacks up to 38super or 9-23 that guys do shoot in the witness line . Might be all you need is a heavier recoil spring. It would help to know more about the ammo.
  6. The few things i have ordered have also been cover very quickly , great service to have henning to deal with.
  7. I bought a match for 499 out the door from my local gun shop .Yours looks like a great price. I am new to competitve shooting but can say that as a accurate gun goes it is a first class gun. It does not seem to any real fauls like has been cover except sites. I took hennings last .090 wide site and drilled it out for the larger red insert than comes with it and that helped me see the front site. Mine has the match rear not the super site and am waiting for some differnt but it works. Take the stock front site off and file down the sides so they are .090 wide and that will also help to find a easier center .The sites on the steel is also a good combo but fixed front. Bought a 9mm convertion and it is the standard full size steel (4.50") barrel rather than the 4.75" and was a better shooter than the 40 buy far and stock sites work quit will. Henningshootsguns will take care of most any need you can come up with or tell you who to contact.
  8. Thanks for the replies . Hope weather clear here for saturdays match.
  9. I shot my first match monday at a indoor range and glade i am old enought to not care if i am the nightly intertanment. I am new to pistols but not handguns ,have hunted for 40 years and with a revolver or two. but this a a blast. I could not seem to just let a mag go to the floor on the first change and lost about 7 seconds on that and killed a good guy along with just try'n to finish . Second round much better ,let mag fall and trimed 10seconds off abut still 10 seconds slower than the fast guy but atleast i hit better on the secod round. This was a 32 round match with a single 3 and 4 and one miss all the rest were 1's so feel better. Got scolded for getting to close to shooting ports ,had to pull gun back to step to next position so that cost time BUT still fun . Can't wait for my first out side match. All this with a 9mm conversion that had not even been shot till i made the first shot at the match on a eaa witness Gun was bought as a 40s&w. Atleast i am the slowest now for now, can only get faster now.
  10. I have a one of the front sites from henning that my old bad eyes could not still see well so after some time i called and henning send me some of the large diameter red inserts that would be used in the stock ,short front site not knowing if they would work or not in hennings site. I drilled the ,090 wide site he makes with a 1/16" bit and then filled and polished off the edges so there is a minimum of material left and when the tip is heated it is as wide as the site itself. I will try this tomorrow in my area indoor range as the light is far from good on the line to see if it helps me. very bright in normal conditions. Drilled the rear site to but could not get enough light to the red insert with out more work so just put som flouresent paint on it for now.
  11. Start'n to sound real good on the tritium sites.
  12. I had a problem with the mag that came with my gun but the two new ones from henning although stock mags worked good and ammo set different in those mags. I don't have the mics you use just oll time fiddle'n and on the original mag after try'n several things it would still try to carry the first couples rounds in the mag nose low compaired to the last several and when only trying to feed one round , the lastround or 2, by pulling the slide it would jamb up about 50% of the time. After ajusting and not helping as much as i hoped i trimed 1/8 of the front legs on the follower and round them over and that let the front of the follower ride a bit more nose high in the mag and seems to fix the problem completely. I do use large nose hollow points DPX enough to want to know the gun will work right with them so if the gun won't feed them it doesn't matter how well fmj's shoot. This is also my house gun and travels in the car.If a gun can't shoot hp's it does'nt matter how well it shoots fmj as i don't shoot competitively.
  13. Has anyone tried this brand barrel. Any good?
  14. I to used the pliers and a small brass jewelers hammer . My mag that came with the gun was ineed of some tuneing but the 2 new stocks work great.
  15. I to bought the henning fiber front site for my witness match but had the same problems you do. Atleast i can see a gap between the sides of the fount site. Fiber is completely to small to be of any use in doors. Went back to the range and bagged the pistol and tried to just watch the sites . Took the old site and a wet diamond stone and filed down the sides of it till the same with as the henning site and reinstalled it added a drop of orange floro paint and that fixed my problem for the short term. Was able to lower the rear site 3 clicks and place 165 grain rounds above the site, finaly. It would be nice for the non-compititive shooters to have a good Mepro/ Trijicon/Truglow type sites that just plan works. No cobbled combo of sites. I still have to black the site after polishing the sides but not a big deal. Darn sure helped. If something does happen here for a darn good site i guess a gun smith will recut my rear for something worth while. Sites are a low point for this gun and the orange flouresent plant helps indoors on the rear dots and front face.
  16. sinnsyk I can understand getting your fingers cut try'n for the last couple of rounds. I can get most in fine and the springs do loosen with time, some, But those last 3 or 4 or heck. jeff86 i under stand the last round from there video but it sure does let you load the others quickly and then just one to fight with. Better than fingers cut. I am starting to have problems with my fingers and knees so i will enjoy the help and don't shoot competitively so last round does not matter. just for fun. The uplula will just save on range time loading clips.
  17. Thats the reason i was asking. I do know that some brands you can get aftermarket barrels that are made for a say 40 to shoot 9mm in the same upper. I am just try'n to not have to buy another set of sites. Or a seacond electronic site. There is not many makeing barrels that fit these guns so you do know who told me it would (work just fine). Even there web page shows a table that ,if your gun is a 40 you can by a 357sig or 9mm for drop in. Not a 45 or even a 10mm. I do feel like if someone produces a base for the burris fastfire i will have one. I might contact them about it.That is why i am try to fined a way to swap barrels only, and springs. I miss see'n the sites and target clearly enough.
  18. I am also looking to set up my 40cal match for 9mm too. I called a brand name company that sells barrels that are drop in for the match and was told that going from 40cal to 9mm would need nothing but maybe a recoil spring change, that the extractor would grab the 9mm case as it does on his match. Does this sound right. Ifind it hard to believe that the stock extractor can grab the 9mm too but maybe.I need help see'n better than what comes stock on the kits and if a barrel and spring would do the job that would save future and all ready done work from doing it on another upper again. All ready have hennings front site. I shoot only for fun and have found that sometimes practice ammo is slow comeing in around where i live. sometimes 40 is not around for weeks but there is 9mm cheaper to. And then it swing the other way. 40cal Umc for 64 bucks for 250 rounds at wally world. What wieght recoil spring on the 40 are most shooting, or is stock ok.
  19. Thanks all for the replies. Darn fingers are numb after filling the mags now. Midway is 24.99 currently/
  20. Thats the one I was interested in, just did not know if there was room to push down the round and still work well. Thanks and i to am haven problems see'n that darn front site and have a fiber sight to try. Hate get'n older Thanks for the info. Ted
  21. Anyone tried UPLULA products to help to load 40cal magazine or have any advise on a helper that works.
  22. I ordered a front site and a couple mags and quick service. Can't be any faster. Good folks.
  23. Yeah, I can read the many items at distance without glasses (large items, not news print) but my problem was seeing (in focus) the front sight (actually front and rear). My optometrist gave me the script for the pistol iron sight shooting glasses. I shoot red dot sights with my regular glasses and I shoot shotguns with glasses that only see distance (one small bi-focal cut on one lens corner). At least when clay targets rise they don't change magnification three times!!! It takes a bit of getting used to, but it is amazing how fast the eyes can adjust to the change. Good luck to you! Tom Went back to the range sunday to shoot and try with just shooting glasses. Better but not great so i ordered a henning taller front site with a red insert and going to try some flouresent paint on top section of rear site and see if that helps. Then and only then i will talk to my eye doc about glasses. Thanks for input. Never did like indoor ranges. To darn dark in them at the shooting line.
