  1. One bad stage and the game is over with total time scoring. IMO this is been tried, tested and not liked. I would like for someone to explain the pros to this type of scoring method as I am sure there has got to be a few reasons why this is good idea. If you want to see how this would work, keep the scoring as prior years and then PRIVATELY and not shared except for internal use only, see how the results compare. I think this will make the shooters more at ease to know the scoring will be the same for past matches which has always drawn a large crowd.
  2. Amen, and please Snow Gods..... take a break!! 1inch of snow today at 8am and then 55F at 1pm.....?
  3. 13 hour drive to and from so I would suggest: 3 stages on day one to welcome shooters and get things started as the first day needs introductions and getting new shooters comfortable with facility. 4 stages day two so we need to be on the range early since not needing a meeting or introduction. 2 stages day three and start early like day 2 to wrap things up at a decent time to get on the road to start the 13hrs of analyzing all the mistakes.....
  4. Some hotels are now requiring a 1 week stay at full rack pricing if they are not sold out. If this does not get addressed, this will be the last year I put this much time and money into finding lodging. Please listen to what the shooters have been trying to tell you.
  5. I watched a few 3gn clips and kind of was taken back to uspsa 3gun. Have not shot uspsa for a few years due to the thick handbook and high attorney cost to interpret. Outlaw matches were started to help simplify the whole thing which they did (many thanks to whoever started it). These matches were shot by people who just enjoyed straight up 3gun challenges and no one was competing for the camera..... I believe now there is a new level of ego driven shooting due to the spotlight and high pay out. I agree with Kurt and Ster- dog to their point that many have missed on this thread but Movie star wannabe shooters need 3gn as it strokes their ego which everyone has an ego but some just can't control it. Enjoyed the thread while it lasted... Be safe out there and support whatever style of shooting you believe in.
  6. My very first major 3 gun was in TN lead by Curtis McMahon. Great match director, great stages, and great time meeting people since I was new to the sport. The single day match consisted of 9 stages in natural terrain crawling inside barrels, in and out of cars and up a tree stand. Yes up a tree stand shooting 200 yards!! All of this was cool but the thought never entered the brain during all of this coolness that the daylight was flying by. After all the stages were completed around 8pm in the middle of no where with no electricity and only a small generator, a computer, and then the SCORES CRASH!! Now, one can imagine frustration setting in, but come on... let's look at the big picture. $100 entry fee for a one day shoot saved me $100/day on lodging, eating out, and using extra vacation time for a match that I signed up for. It took me a few years to understand and appreciate that clubs that put on a high round count, complex stage design all in minimum days to shoot, had more to be torqued off more than my inconvenience of waiting for completion. Prize tables were to top 5 so placement to the experienced shooters was the glory to these matches! I greatly support all the hard work everyone did for the Michigan 3 Gun Match and I will never have the ability to put on a match of this caliber so complaining will never happen here. Let's all be thankful to still be able to have a right to gather and shoot together as supporters of our 2nd Amendment and look forward to more chances to shoot matches like this. YOU GUYS DID GREAT!!! Thanks Curtis (Mr.TV weather man), you never knew what an impact you made on me almost 15 years ago..... BB
  7. Would be great if registration started after the Rocky Mountain 3gun was over with this upcoming weekend.
  8. I always feel bad when there are scoring issues. However, I think most shooters don't really need the surprise ending for who the winners are. I would suggest to any match director to please post the final results prior to awards. Accidents happen so put that responsibility back on the shooters to verify their times and points. After 30min review, all bets are off. I have seen too many hard working folks bust their butts trying to make the match perfect only to get stung by an honest mistake of the transfer for final results at the end of wonderful match and trying to make it up! It's not the prizes......it is the beating we take traveling home to what the world happened...? That's just what we do.
  9. Great match and perfect weather to start the season off here in the Midwest. Congrats to all the division winners! Seeing how final results and how stage points totaled would good to so how important those high value stages were. Squad 8 was the bomb! EVERYONE was positive, and very helpful resetting stages. Very greatful to meet and shoot with eveyone.
  10. Will we get a confirmation via E-mail that our applications were received?
  11. It seems I've lost that lovin feeling for USPSA matches recently. However, I need to give them all the credit in the world for helping me get started with pistol shooting many years ago. With all the rules/regulations that go along with USPSA, I can't help but feel the need for a good lawyer at my side to shoot and keep up with ways to get out of a pinch. Hats off to all the major Outlaw 3-Gun matches out there that do not require chrono (can't count the number of people that mention "special" rounds when required for USPSA), no max shotgun rounds for open, start with 9 at buzzer than load her full for tac-optics.....on and on. These kind of matches have really drawn the crowds that fill up matches quick unlike USPSA. Add the wonderful scoring method of the Horner System when offered and low and behold, a simple and great time that is easy to score, re-set and gets you coming back for more. Purely my opinion here and I don't wish any bad ju-ju what-so-ever. To answer the question, I will not be shooting the Nationals this year. I am quite addicted to the Outlaws!
  12. DPMS has been very good to all of us so whatever support they need, they'll get 100% of mine. Shooting 2 guns is better than shooting none. Is there another local club that might let us shoot pistol at? Just a thought. Thanks for all you do Lea, we'll see you in Aug!!! Brian
  13. What happens to us rule followers that only submited once at exactly 9:30 and got the error messege? After reading that others re-submitted, I did the same but at 9:33pm. Hope this pans out.
  14. My first MGM IRON MAN and WOW!! I have heard guys talk in the past of what an Elite group of shooters who come together and shoot 1000+ rounds over 3 days. As shooting stories are sometimes like fishing stories, this was NOT. I can't compliment Travis, Mike, and their support groups enough for most challenging, class act match along with a wonderful team of RO's. Day 3 back in the steel mill and I am still thinking of the match as my body constantly reminds me! I also want to thank Travis for hanging in there during the scoring issues at the end. Sometimes when you bust your butt so hard for so long only to please everyone then one slight mishap accurs sometimes you can loose focus, which you did not. Great job! Thanks for the great squad & giving us all the chance to make new friends as this is what our sport is about. And for Mr. Sterling White......sorry for the waterboarding buddy on stage 7 , we knew you would not crack under pressure and would appreciate the humor for the last shooter on the last stage of the match! Look forward to seeing you all again. Brian
