  1. Well, for what it is worth, she choose the Glock 34 in part because of one being available from of one of the members of this forum. Personally I am happy she chose this over the Springfield mostly because of the avaialbility of parts, accessories, support and the longer sight radius. Other than that, they were pretty equally matched. Thank you all for your kind suggestions and sage advice! She had been monitoring this site and has found it most helpful. Steve
  2. I shot my very first Steel Challenge match yesterday and, overall did what I about expected to to, with one exeption. I was consistantly having a failure to extract, strangely enough on between the 4th and 5th shot. (Using a Para P14 with minimum PF to make Major). This malfunction did not matter what magazine I was using, as I number them as per suggestions on this forum (ain't it great?!?!!) The RO for our squad said that I had too much lube on the gun causing the extractor not to be able to, "get a grip on the fired casing". Even after a fast disassembly and cleaning, I was still having the same problem. One of the more experienced and sage shooters on the squad suggested that I may be weak wristing wchich make more sense to me. I did have a hand injury about three months ago that still caused pain in the heel of my right palm. I am wondering if I may be subconciously be reacting to this discomfort. Based on what I have mentioned above what would you diagnose the problem as and what would you suggest to cure this in the future? I have a bicycle glove with a gel padding in the palm, I wonder if that may help. Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Steve
  3. She has fired the Glock but we have been unable to find an XD or XDM (9mm) in a rental case. We will be going to a local Steel Challange shoot tomorrow I hope we see a few different ones there that we can talk to the shooter's about.
  4. I have heard a lot of very good things about the Blade Tech DOH holsters, as a result I just ordered one for my own Para P14. They currently have that model on sale on their web site.
  5. I have a friend that is having a difficult time choosing between these the Glock model 34 and the Springfield XDM, both in 9mm. We went to the local gunshop/indoor range this evening to look at them both and to shoot the Glock as they have one in the rental inventory, but we were unable to shoot the XDM. Her primnary use will be casual steel matches, casual shooting, some USPSA type shooting and lastly as a defense gun for the house and in her car. We also looked at the Walther 99 and the S&W M&P models as well as a few others, none of which she likes as much as the Glock and the Springfield. Of these two, which would you suggest for her and why? She made a mistake in one gun purchase and is a bit gunshy (pardon the pun) about making another bad choice. Thanks in advance, Steve
  6. I have all of my triggers set to between 3 and 3.5 pounds. That includes my Kemen, a target shotgun.
  7. I just received my new CR Speed belt this morning. Even though it is the "Old style" the inner belt has a tapered end to make threading through belt loops easier. It is by FAR a much better belt than my Old Safariland!! Absolutely No Comparison.
  8. I have been wondering this for quite a while and never asked anyone. Why is the 38 Super so popular for competition guns?
  9. This is pretty much exactly what I plan on doing, instead spending my money on a decent rig and some additional pre-ban mags. The only thing I did to the gun itself was to add a Dawson fibre optic front sight as my eyes ain't what they used be, a shok buff and some grip tape. Once I get the components to the rig, practice, practice, and more pratice.
  10. From what I have found out, the answer is yes. The CR Speed Belt is a 1.5" wide belt, that will work on nearly all holsters and accessories commonly available.
  11. Well, for better or worse, based upon the feedback here I have decided on the following: Blade Tech DOH with Tek Loc CR Speed Belt Safariland 773 Mag Pouches (at least three, but prefer five) I figure that this will do me fairly well to begin with. As soon as I save up some more money I will be getting full moon clip holders so I can shoot my S&W 625. (already have holster for this one) Thank you all for your help, suggestions and opinions.
  12. I have a Para P12-45 (not the LDA model) that I am considering selling. I have 2- 12 round mags and 1- 10 round mags and a shoulder holster that goes with it. I would like some opinions of value before I ask either too much or too little for it. Thanks in advance for your help. Steve
  13. With slide , barrel and All ? Yes. I have only used this techique a couple of times when I had over half dozen handguns to clean at one time. Normally I clean at my bench one at a time, after each use. Steve
  14. And you want to chance health problems for your family, from lead, unburned powder etc, just to speed up cleaning a firearm? That's just plain DUMB. I should have said that the gun and gun parts are the ONLY thing in the dishwasher at the time. No dishes, silverware, etc in there at all. The only other thing I have ever done like that is a baseball cap or two in there at the same time. All contamination goes down the drain along with the rest of the dirt. Heck, the crap that comes outa one of my baseball caps has got to be nearly as bad!!
  15. Greeting and Welcome!! That is a nice group for being fairly new to handgun shooting! I would be proud to have a group like that from 13 yards. If you were to let us all know where you are from will be helpful. There may be a menber of this board farily close that you could shoot with. Ya never know!
  16. I feel like the dooooods in 'Wayne's World'..... I'm Not Worthy!!! as I bow to all those with the great playrooms!!! Right now I am only set up for loading 4 shotgun gauges........
  17. This is very unconventional but it works, especially if cleaning multiple guns. Take apart and put in the top rack of a diswasher with your fav dishwashing solution. Run through a full cycle, lube and reassemble. Fastest way I have seen to clean multiple guns at one time.
  18. Excellent advice!!!! So far she has fired an S&W Sigma, Kimber Pro CDP .45, Para P14-45, Para P12-45, Ruger PS9, S&W Mod 19 2.5", S&W Mod 66 6", Sig 2022(9mm), S&W 625 (45acp) as well as a couple others. I am not trying to make the decision for her, but want her to be as comfortable as possible no matter what she decides. Right now she is also considering a Para LDA P18-9. That may make a very good compromise for her and cover about every thing. Thank You
  19. I really like the idea of the grip tape. But I have a very, very stupid question, please forgive me! Will this grip tape stick to Hogue rubber grips? And/Or will it stick to the stock Para grips? Yea, told you it was a stupid question.
  20. Why the DOH over the one that CR offers in their Rig package deal? Not being arumentative, just very curious. Thanks
  21. I should have been more clear. The concealed carry aspect of the total is not as important as the others so, a compact style gun is not important. Matter of fact, when carried it will be in the car, handbag, briefcase, etc. I see many suggestions for the M&P but, other than them offering a compact or subcompact model, there seems to be no other cogent reason to consider one of them over and above the Ruger or XDM.
  22. Ok, I admit I am on a budget, hate to admit it, but facts are facts. I want to do some shooting in Limited 10 as well as some local steel matches with my para -14. I want to get a rig that will work better than a leather belt, Fobus holster and a couple of fabric mag pouches that I already have. Not that I am CHEAP but want a good deal like everyone else and also want decent quality so that I only have to buy it once! I have been looking very seriously at CR Speeds Value Rig Package but, if at all possible would like to spend less. I have also been considering the DOH holster with a CR Speed belt (the one that is on sale) as well as the Mag Pouches from CR Speed. But the money is nearly the same. I also have been doing a bunch of reading here and really appreciate all the help and information that is on this site. I sure would appreciate some feedback. Thanks in advance! Steve
  23. Grip size is not an issue, matter of fact she she likes the feel of my Para P14. She has not tried the M&P but other than grip size, why do you suggest it?
  24. I have a friend that wants to do more steel matches, enjoys casual shooting and wants a nice carry gun. She went out and bought an S&W Sigma and hates the trigger pull. She does not like a Glock, although I believe that if she was shown the right ones, she may be. We went out to a few shops yesterday and looked at the Ruger SR9 and a couple Springfield XD models. She prefers the trigger pull of the XD but likes the grip feel of the Ruger. I suggested that before she makes another Sigma mistake she look at an XDM, preferably at a shop that has all three for her to compare at the same time. What would Y'all suggest?
