  1. Shoot the SKS as is, learn to load it quickly. SKS's are reputed to be more accurate than AK's. What do you need a light and laser for in 3 gun? Well, my initial thoughts were to get a stock that would make the gun more manageable in tighter conditions so I could use it as a home defense gun. The Laser and light would enhance the capabilities in that regard. Tapco makes a product that I am considering.
  2. If this is indeed the case, what would you suggest as a more affordable way to get involved in Three Gun shoots without spending $1,500 to over $2,000 on an AR or like rifle? Or, is this a sport where if you can't afford the game, stay home?
  3. I am considering getting a Norinko SKS that can be had cheap, if not for the cheap part, I wouldn't. If I end up with this club, I want to put a replacement stock and a couple accesories on it to make it a decent gun for local three gun matches, estate defense ( ) and general fun shooting. I would prefer one with an AR style collapsable stock and Picatinny rails for sights, light and maybe a laser. What stocks, magazines and other accessories would you suggest? Thanks, Steve
  4. Well, here is my take. Since the first of the year I have had four of my "students" purchase guns based upon my advice and teachings. They are all women that range from 5'3" - 115 to 5'10" approximately 170. We have purchased the following: Dan Wesson Patriot in .45ACP. Two Glock 34's. one Glock 17 long slide and one Glock 17. They are all very happy with their choices and I still work with all of them, assisting in picking our mag pouches, belts, mags, sights, trigger work, grips, etc. We tend to shoot USPSA, Steel Challenge, bowling pins, and other informal shoots. For what it;s worth, Steve
  5. This Timer Thread is pretty old, some posts are nearly 7years old. Has anything in changed as far as timers are concerned? New products and or companies available. Does Brian still sell PACT Timers? I checked his store and it doesn't appear so. How about an update...... Thanks. Steve

    POA vs POI

When Shooting a 9mm is there a significant difference in the point of impact with the various bullet weights using factory ammo? I sighted in using CCI Brass 115's and Federal (American Eagle) 124gr. Both of these were shooting to the same point of impact from the same hold and point of aim. Should there be any change in the point of Impact between this ammo and Federal (American Eagle) 147 grain ? Thanks! Steve
  7. My friend shoots a G34 with a SS guide rod. After the steel match this past Sunday, I was taking it apart to clean it and realized that the "end cap" of the guide rod must have come off. at the shoot. If I were to put this spring with the the washer back in the gun without the little end cap? We have an extra captured SS rod with spring that we put in, but I would like to have one as a back up, for it will work in her G34 as well as my G17 and our other friend's G17L. Any other suggestions on where I can get another keeper for this one? Thanks. Steve!
  8. I have been wondering, what range do you sight your handguns in at? I am currently shooting a P14 for USPSA events and a Glock 17 for steel challenge. Previously, I thought that 25 yards was the norm, but lately I have been considering a lesser distance. So, I thought I would ask the sage advice from those here. Thanks! Steve
  9. I ended up putting a set of Fiber optic sights on it.... Adjustable rear with double FO and FO front sight. Using Green tubes for the rear and red for the front. I have it sighted in now and like these much better than the original Glock sights. Thank you all for your advice. Steve
  10. I have an S&W 625-6 that I have been thinking about putting a fiber optic front sight on. Which one would you recommend and can I get one that is already pre-drilled to fit ? Thanks in advance. Steve
  11. The 17 Long Slide has the lighter connector from the factory. Just look at the label on the box, it will tell you. As has already been mentioned, for what ever reason, they now all it a 4.5# connector. I have tried both the factory 3.5# (after polishing) and the Lone Wolf 3.5# I found that there was a noticeable difference between the two. On my own early model Glock 17 I changed the striker spring, put in a Lone Wolf 3.5# connector and Polished the #$%^&* out of every metal part inside the thing. I know have a Crisp (for a Glock) 3.3 # break point. FWIW
  12. I agree with the Taurus suggestion. I can also suggest, if you can find one, is an older Dan Wesson Patriot is a very good 1911 that can be found at reasonable prices.
  13. I have used McCormick and Wilson 8 and 10 round SS mags in my .45 Kimber with NO problems.
  14. u Well DUH, I forgot to mention I have a Para P14..... the Dawson pads are about 30 bucks apiece, x 5 and that is an eaasy 150 bucks that I could spend on ammo. I was hoping there would be a reasonable alternative.
  15. Shot my first USPSA Match yesterday, while I didn't finish last, I am sure I could have done a bit better, particularly in the reload department. I am thinking I will add a Magwell in order to facilitate faster reloads.... I love the Dawson Magwell, but according to the web site and catalogue, they require the use of Dawson's extended base pads also. Being as I am in Limited !0, I prefer not to spend the additional money on the base pads. I am thinking about the S&A model, but that requires some modification to the frame. Are there any other models that will work? (posted on classifieds looking for used one also) Thanks Steve
  16. For that usage I would prefer and have used a Model 19 with 2.5 inch barrel. Milled for Moon clips
  17. Well Hell, come on out to the beach and shoot away!!! Yes, I do have the big fat white dot on the front. Stock barrel, factory ammo, correct sight alignment, tried different targets, had my contacts in, even put my lucky doo-rag on ..........nothing helped, still shoots high. Now, this is my first Glock, first plastic gun of any kind since a Roy Rogers special when I was 6. Most of my hand gun shooting prior has been with revolvers and 1911 style guns. I am not sure if this relates to my situation or not, but I am left eye dominant and I shoot right handed with a hand gun. To be honest, going back over the years, I have never really experienced a problem with fixed sights being off like with this Glock. My Kimber and before that my Para p12 have been dead on with fixed sights. Now, just to decide what the heck to replace them with.
  18. I shot my second ever Steel Match yesterday, first one with my G17. While I did ok, The sights SUCK. As mentioned in a previous thread, they shoot 2-3" high, so I spent the day compensating my sight accordingly. That said, I will be changing sights, as soon as I can get it through my pea brain what I want to use. Being as this thing is shooting that high with factory sights (confirmed it using a laser bore sight gizmo) would y'all suggest fixed or adjustable rear sight? If fixed, what the heck will I get the durnned thing Zeroed in? Thanks, Steve
  19. In what way do you re-profile the Plunger safety? Thanks, Steve
  20. The reasr sight currently on the gun is the 6.5mm sight.
  21. Like you I am new to Glocks, although I have been tinkering with guns for many years. In the past couple of weeks, I have done 4 of the 25 cent trigger jobs; G17, G17LS, G34 and a S&W Sigma. I must parrot the previous comments about using a Dremel or other power tool versus attempting to do it using Q-Tips. I prefer using Semichrome or Maas as the polishing agent, versus Flitz, just a personal preference gained frompolishing English Motorcycle cases. I took the guns down to dust and polished every metal part I could get my fingers on. In addition, I changed the striker spring to a 4# unit, 5# trigger spring, and I used a Wolf Lone Wolf 3.5# connector (after polishing, of course). After cleaning, reassembly took place using our host's Slide Glide (heavy) and a sparing amount of Rem Oil in the right places. Take care not to lube the ejector or striker. Now, with the exception of the Sigma (that is another story) we all have triggers that break consistantly from 3.20 to 3.35#s. Now, they are not as crisp as a S&W in single action or a good 1911, but they are a heck of a lot better than what they were! Overall, I found them very simple and easy to work on, only needing a couple of punches, brass or phenolic hammer and a small screwdriver. I followed the directions, photos and schematics on Glockmeister's web site as well as encourage ment and help from other's on this website. Over all much easier thatn my 1911's and S&W's as far as trigger work is concerned. Hope this helps, Steve
  22. You really ought to keep those colloquials off you Glock. I Have found a set oc coloquial adjustables, but can't find the tood for their installation. Made outa old bud cans. On a more serious note: I am currently not reloading, that is the biggest reason for my wanting to get an adjustable rear sight, vs. fixed rear sight. I am currently shooting whatever I can find that is the most inexpensive at the time, WWB, CCI Brass, etc. Right now in this area, finding ANY Handgun ammo is a challenge!! and EXPENSIVE!! Fortunately I have quite a bit of experience in shooting whatever I can lay my hands on, goes back to my days growing up on a dairy farm, then in the military. As long as I know where it hits, I can hit with it. Right now, at "only" 2 to 3 inches high at 10 to 15 meters, it ain't no big deal I can just aim at the bottom of any of the round steel and in the lower quadrant of the larger retangular plates. Other than it being sdjustable, I am not sure what style rear sight I will feel most comfortable with. Bo-Mar style, FO type, White outline, straight black target style, etc. On my carry gun (a Kimber Pro CDP) I have a set of night sights, my Para P14, that I shoot in L10, has Bo-Mar style rear with a Dawson FO front, the 625 has S&W factory sights, same with the Ruger BH (both are very accurate SOB's). In light of this, I am am thiniking about getting the same combination as on the Para so when I am on any range, no matter what I am shooting, the sight picture will look the same. However, I am (sorta) drawn to the FO front and rear, using different color rods for the front and rear. I would pull out my hair, but I ain;t got enough left to get a hand on. Thanks Again!! Steve
  23. "Dialed in" ="Got 'er pretty much where I want 'er". Coloquial; More Common below the mason-dixon line, further south ya go the more common it it is, until you hit Palm Coast, FL. In this case 25 cent trigger job (to include total polishing all metal parts that I could get my grubby fingers on), addition of Lone Wolf 3.5# gizmo, changed out striker and trigger spring for Wolff 4# and 6# respectively, grip tape, lubrication with our Fearless Leader's heavy duty slide-glide, put a plug in the grip that has already fallen out twice. etc. Now, all I gotta git dun is da sights. Once I get dat dun, I will really have 'er, "Dialed In" ! All kidding aside, Me thinks that I will be shooting if a couple hundred more rounds before I invest anymore money on anything. When I do it will be sights. I will be using it in a local Steel Challange Match on Sunday, which will be the second one I ever shot in. The first I used my Para in, that gun is currently in the trigger rehab department of the local gun clinic. Wish me luck!! Steve
  24. Top of front sight is level with rear sight, I use a "pumpkin on a post" sight picture relevant to the target. I am currently looking at a sight set on E-bay, front and rear FO sights, rear adjustable for $70 combined. THe link is below, I certainly would appreciate some feedback from every one. ( http://cgi.ebay.com/Glock-Style-Fiber-Opti...3A1%7C294%3A50)
  25. I am currently waiting for my order of 147gr Federals to arrive, should be here today. OK, All Y'all (that plural for Y'all in case you didn't know) Have convinced me to get a set of decent sights despite my current economic position, I suppose another hundred bucks or so won't influnce the bankruptcy judge that much (kidding). I see that the Sevigny rear with a Dawson FO front seems to be the (current) "hot lick" when it comes to Glock sights. Here is my next question, how much of a pain in the patoot is it for a poor, uneducated, old guy to change these out? I did the front sight on my para, put on a Dawson FO, and it was very easy but I am not sure about these here Glocks! Thanks in advance! Steve
