  1. For the guys that had to send the SWFA back, how old are your scopes? In my readings I saw where that was an issue with earlier scopes.

It was about a year and a half ago. The windage turret clicked but didn't do anything. Good service from SWFA though, they took it back and I replaced it with a Leupold.

  2. Of course I would have liked to start earlier. But more importantly I wish I had a plan. Coaching would be great, too, but it would have been part of a larger plan where each trip to the range was preplanned and focused. It would have been great to receive Seeklander's book when I bought my gun as well as the Burkett DVDs.

It would have saved a lot of time and ammo and I'd most certainly be further along than I am now.

But still, the journey is half the fun and I'm having a blast.

  3. Thanks everyone for your input! A friend gave me some Precision Deltas to try out and I think I'll take your advice and get a small batch of MG CMJ's to try out. I'll let you know how it goes.

  4. Time to order some more 9mm bullets and thought I'd ask your thoughts on what to try next to feed the M&P. I tried 124 JHP Zeros and my M&P really liked them but I had a hard time getting them because they were always out of stock. I then went to 124 JHP Montana Golds but they are shaped a little weird, strait and not curved, and didn't shoot that great for me. I was considering going with the MG CMJ to see how those worked. A friend suggested Precision Delta and they are the least expensive of the bunch. So I thought I'd ask you all, how would you rate the three, like first second and third? And not sure if it matters, but Winchester primers and Solo1000 powder.

    124 MG CMJ

    124 Zero FMJ

    124 PD FMJ

    Thanks!

  5. Well I'm giving up on my Trijicon TR24 with the red triangle since I just can't get used that reticle. I was going to either switch to the Trijicon TR24 with the crosshairs/centerdot or try the Meopta ZD Tactical K-dot but I'm wondering about the dot sizes. I have a EOTech with the 1MOA dot and really like that size, so the smaller the better. But for a 1-4 I'd like to know between the TR24 and the Meopta K-dot, which is smaller at what magnification? From the Trijicon website it looks like the dot size is 3.6MOA to 0.9MOA. So does that mean at 1x it's 3.6 and at 4x it's 0.9? So the dot is constant when magnified, right? I heard the Meopta is 2MOA but I'm not sure at what power that is. Is the Meopta the same way when magnified and the dot is constant, i.e. 2MOA at 1x and .4ishMOA at 4x? Sorry for the stupid questions, but I don't have any local places to look at them.

And does anyone know who has the Meopta in stock?

    Thanks!

  6. If you get the chance to fire some of them do it. I wouldn't get too wrapped around the axle here. All of the above are very nice and will serve you well, especially coming from the one you have. I have the JP in one of my ARs and it is very nice, but I prefer my RRA 2 stage over anything else Ive tried.

  7. Good suggestion on cleaning it! I was getting it ready to paint and all of the black that I thought was missing paint was just crud on it. A little bit of work with alcohol and a toothpick and it's like new again. I love it when things are easy. :)

    Thanks, all.

  8. Just to update you guys with my progress. I like ArmdCtzn, had to back off because it flared up my tennis elbow (shooter's elbow?) I took a week off and went back slow. This summer has been terrible for shooting since I'm always out of town just when there's a match. There was a match on Sunday that I was committed to making but was sure I was going to do poorly since I haven't shot a match in a while. Well I think the dryfire practice certainly helped. I did much better than I thought I would do and actually did pretty well. Considering that it costs nothing but a little time it worth the effort. Now I need to find a schedule that works for me.

There is a guy in my club who hasn't been shooting very long but probably dryfires two or more times a day. He does it over his lunch break! And he's moving up fast and will be nipping at the heals of the top guys out here in no time at the rate he's going.

  9. I also noticed that I do best when I lock everything, shoulders included, and just let my arms do the draw and drive. Hard to describe but again, smooth with very little wasted movement.

Hi, could you tell more about this part of your post? Seems interesting and I got interested in developing this technique, if it really works that great. B)

    Regards,

    Demetrio.

I don't know how to really explain it other than making sure you don't have any wasted movement. Ask yourself what needs to move to draw and drive your gun. Very little and when I force that it seems to be very quick and efficient. It's like a lot of things around here, hard to really explain but you know when you've done it right. I hope that makes sense. And the one piece of advice is to do this on the timer because it "feels" slow but the timer doesn't lie. At least with me, perception is not reality. I have to verify everything on the clock since I can't reliably gauge time in this realm.

  10. My M&P is quickly approaching 12k rounds and is running great but the front sight is looking pretty bad. The bright white paint is dirty and needs to be repainted and I thought I'd ask you all if you've done yours and if you had any advice, tips, or tricks you'd care to share.

    Thanks!

  11. It's not about IF but WHEN, Myself I never been a fan of .22 conversions, so far in my short shooting experience I've seen 2 rifles blowup after people forget to clean the dog snot out of their rifles after switching back to there .223 loads. I wouldn't risk it specially in a match stainless barrel

I have been using a Ciner conversion in different Ar's for the last seven years with zero problems that I knew of.

No fouling, no gas port problems, no loss in accuracy that I could tell but the barrels I was using were not of the best quality so I could not tell for sure.

For the last two years I have been using a 20" Wilson s/s 1/8 twist very accurate barrel. On a good day from a rest it shoots 2" groups at 300 yds.

I was skeptical to use the conversion in it so I called my friend who has a very expensive bore scope.

I thoroughly cleaned the barrel, bore scoped it, then shot 550 rds. of Federal bulk pack through it and then scoped it with out cleaning it. First few inches were dirty with what appeared to be some sort of black crud? The rest of the barrel was as before I shot it. Perfectly clean! No leading, no fouling what so ever. Ran a dry patch down the barrel and out came the black crud. Extra lube on the 22's, don't know but the barrel now looked like it had never been shot.

After two years of shooting thousands of 22's through it, the accuracy is the same.

We bore scoped it a few weeks ago and the barrel is showing normal throat erosion and wear.

In the last year our club and others have got into 22 rifle matches and lots of practice for 3gun events and except for dealing with poor ammo, no problems.

Been at this game for a long time and have never heard of anyone blowing up there gun because of shooting 22's through it.I suppose it is possible but I don't know how.

I forgot, we ran the same experiment on two other rifles and they were not fouled either.

Can't explain it but there you have it!

Thanks for posting this! It seems like there is so much "info" just floating around that is just a "feeling" about something. I love it when actual data is posted like with your bore scope findings. No disrespect intended to the other posters at all, just saying, this is just the info I needed to make an informed decision for myself since I had wondered the same with my CMMG kit. I think it was Edward Deming that said, "In God we trust, all others bring data."

I wish I had access to a bore scope myself.

  12. It was going well until I had to do some trips for work and I didn't think the TSA would appreciate me bringing my pistol. I then had some other things come up that prevented me from practicing, but the only pistol match I have been able to attend went better than they typically do. So it certainly does help, but since I didn't make my 30 days I'm planning to start again next week as well as start up my weekly live fire practice. Sheesh! It's been a crazy summer.

  13. Unless you really need the little FPS that the longer barrel affords you, I'd go with the lightest 16" you can. Having all of the weight out front really makes a difference in handling and balance. I'd shoot less if I didn't have to pay $200 to do so.

    My 2 cents.

  14. Here's another vote for the LaRue mount. You may want a different scope later but you'll always have the best mount if you start right.

And just a though because you mentioned home defense, thought about an EOTech? You can add a magnifier later if desired and no extra mount needed. IMO, it's the best CQB optic out there.

  15. I have an AAC brake/suppressor QD mount on one of my ARs and noticed a buildup that was like a "mountain w/o a top" pointing toward the chamber. It happened after I got my CMMG .22lr conversion kit and fired 500ish Remington subsonics through it. I was too scared to shoot a 5.56 through it and had to chisel it off with a flat screw driver. It was crazy. Other brands of ammo do it a little but the Remington's are horrible.
