  1. I thought about that, but won't the calculator assume that the bullet will still elevating upwards on it's flight path if I enter 200, when it will really be coming down at 200 yards if it is sighted in for 50?
  2. I just ordered a Z6i 1-6X and I was reviewing the BRT Software on Swarovski's Website. Normally I use Ballstic:FTE Software on my iTouch to calculate holders in MOA at various distances and that has worked well with my K-Dot. I like the BRT Software because it will tell you exactly what range the POI wil be for the horizontal stadia in the reticle for your given load, magnification, etc and you print a copy and keep it with you. I normally zero my rifle at 50 yards with my current load, rifle, and scope because the bullet drops back down to the point of aim again at about 225 yards ( I think many people do this for the advantage of not really needing to do any holdovers until you stretch out to 250-300 yards or so. Well the Swaro BRT Software won't let you set a zero range less than 100 yards. So here is my question. For those of you who used to set your zero at 50 yards and then switched the Z6i, did you change your zero height? Perhaps you just kept your zero height at 50 yards and then just used other software to calculate your holdovers in mils with the Z6i and didn't use the BRT software. Any feedback would be much appreciated! I hope this makes sense. I'm not a long range shooter and I've attempted to learn this on my own with only the help of the internet.
  3. Much speculation on this one particular shot - none of which has been validated by the match staff. Asking a shooter to make a 2 MOA off-hand shot at 200 yards in a 3-gun match is unreasonable. If the penalty is 30 seconds, it really won't matter because the vast majority of competitors (at least 80%, probably higher) can't make that shot on demand. I recall one stage at BR3G this last year where there was a chance at the end of the stage to get a raffle ticket for ??? I don't recall what ??. You had to make a prone shot within a few seconds of the "fire" command to hit a soda/beer can hanging at 75 yards. I asked the RO's how many hit it and they said about half of the shooters did.
  4. Back from the dead. I ended up getting the Ghost and I've been happy with it. Unfortunately, I've only shot it a couple times and I've now decided to sell my open gun, because it just sit in the safe. I'll take pictures and post it in the classifieds soon.
  5. So it sounds like we can make a 1 MOA shot prone at 150 yards or choose to make a 2 MOA shot offhand? I guess we better know our holdover (or under as the case will likely be for most) at 150 yards!
  6. I read some feedback on this forum and on Brownell's and no one had luck getting the Blade Tech pouch to fit AR-10 mags, but no one specifically mentioned the 308 PMAG. I couldn't even find this product on the Blade Tech website. I'll see how the 3 Gun Gear pouch goes next weekend and go from there. Thanks for the Safariland info! Edit. I got the 3 Gun Gear Double Mag pouch and it looks like it is going to work just fine. One less excuse for now.
  7. I had a weak moment and made an impulse buy. My Z6i with BRT is on the way and I should have it in time for FB3G next week. Anyone have theirs mounted on a 308?
  8. That's good to hear. I don't know about everyone else, but when I purchase the best and pay a premium, excellent customer service is what I expect and that is part of the reason I often choose to pay more. Fortunately with all of my JP products, I've never had any problems. I had a chance to meet John at BR3G and I appreciate all he does for the sport. I will support his company happily with future purchases and spread to word about his company and products. I purchased a high end sport car a few years ago, and the customer service with warranty issues afterwards was on par with what I would expect from Wal Mart. After I sold it, I purchased a Yukon Denali (kids didn't fit so well in the sports car) and the local GMC service has been great. I will NEVER purchase another car from that dealer (and I did speak with the manager and wrote several letters and I learned that this dealer had a history of horrific CS).
  9. Sorry to hear about this! I had to back out one week prior to the match last year for family issues as well. I hope everything goes well.
  10. Thanks DanO. I have some Winchester 7.62 147 gr left over. I'm going to switch my K-Dot to my 308 and use what I have left to sight it in on Sunday when I have time and I've already ordered 200 rounds of the same ammo (which should be at my door Tuesday) to get me through FB3G. Thanks for the offer and I look forward to meeting you next week! I will need to get more 308 ammo so we can catch up about the ammo then. Damien
  11. I read the rules and I believe you are correct. Yeah that is the way I read the rules too. I am leaning towards shooting 5.56, but still might shoot 7.62 just for the fun factor... OK....Now you have me thinking. I have a 308 that I would like to shoot, but I dont' want to go to HM (I have a 12 gauge pump, but I have never shot it). I need to get more 7.62 ammo and switch my optic from my .223 to the 308 and get it zeroed before the match if I do. I'm a middle of the pack Tac Optics shooter, so I'm in it for the fun and not to make an early trip to the prize table. Hmmm.....I'll do it if you do it. I am in. This is my leave from Iraq, I am also middle of the pack TO shooter and totally in it for the fun. I am having too much fun with my new REPR so I am gonna run it. Palmetto State Armory is a great source for 7.62 ammo. I would switch to heavy metal, but don't find anything fun at all about a pump shotgun or single stack 1911. I'm in as well. I feel the same way about the pump and single stack (at least for now). I ordered a mag pouch that will hold 2 308 PMAGS from 3 Gun Gear and they are shipping out today. I burned through all my 308 ammo so I need to get some ASAP and pull my optic off my .223 and get it sighted in on my 308. Nothing like changing my mind and trying to get everything squared away at the 11th hour. This could be ugly, but at least I'll be making big holes.
  12. Thanks for all of the replies! It looks like the blade-tech holders won't fit the 308 PMAG. I have a pocket that will work well, but I may need to hold a few more mags since I am going to shoot my 308 in tac optics at FB3G. That 3 Gun gear pouch looks perfect and I can just loop the straps around my CR Speed belt! I called 3 Gun gear and they are shipping today. Now I just need to pull my scope of my 223 and sight it in for my 308. This is my first step towards HM.....baby steps....
  13. I may shoot my 308 at FB3G. I have plenty of 308 PMAGS, but I have no way to carry them. I normally have a Blade-tech AR-15 Tech-Lock mag pouch on my CR Speed Belt. What type of mag pouches do you carry for these mags and how do you carry them. If I am going to do this, I need to get some ASAP. Thanks in advance for your help!
  14. Sorry to hear about your issues with JP. Good luck with your LWRC! I have both a CTR-02 and LRP-07. It's like having a smokin' hot wife and a supermodel girl friend, even if I am the ugliest dude on the block!
  15. I always plan on shooting 1.5 x the number listed, and bring 2x in case I am "EMBRACING THE SUCK" and really "enjoying" my match to its "full" potential "Embracing the Suck" I almost spit up all my Coke Zero "There is no charge for the Suckiness"
  16. I read the rules and I believe you are correct. Yeah that is the way I read the rules too. I am leaning towards shooting 5.56, but still might shoot 7.62 just for the fun factor... 17. Are there any places close by to grab a quick bite for lunch or do most people just bring something to eat with them for lunch? I can't help it. I'm always thinking about food. dmac
  18. It's too late. I've already shaved my legs and I'm getting my eyebrows and bikini wax tomorrow.
  19. I like all my ARs including a couple Noveske rifles, but when I was at the range this weekend rechecking zero in my JP CTR-02, it leaves me wanting no other. The sound and feel of the bolt slamming forward is unlike any of my other ARs. It's like the exhaust note of a Ferrari, unmistakably unique and a thing of beauty. Get the JP Buffer Spring and Low Mass Buffer while you are at it.
  20. I use mine 30/30 and have had no problems with my JP CTR-02. It is built well and provides great support when going prone. I just wish they would make one for the Magpul 7.62 mags!
  21. Can anyone tell me if it's worth bringing a modified stroller 3 gun cart for this match or is it not really helpful like at the BRM3G? Thanks for the feedback!
  22. I look forward to more feedback. I have an LRP-07 and I'm wanting to get a 1-4X for it. I don't think I really need to get a 1-6X or new 1-8X. I already have a Meopta K-Dot on my .223, but I'm willing to try something new out. Besides, at $299 you almost can't go wrong. The sale is good for one more month, so I look forward to what others think comparing it to other 1-4X like the TR24, K Dot, etc.
