  1. That is a cool tool but given the availability of AR's these days can you actually get what you build??
  2. Last weekend it was 10 below when we headed out on a 100+ Mile snowmobile trip in Groton VT, at 60mph the wind chill is about -48 which calculates out to about 5min. for frost bite. Had a small gap in my neck gear and still have some skin healing from the experience!! Going to try my first real winter match this weekend. It's supposed to be a high of 20 and snowing so should feel good after the recent below zero weather (-15 last night)
  3. You can right-click on the pic and save image as something local to your computer like your desktop then enlarge it with any picture viewer or editor. It probably won't help much because the resolution is so low but you never know.
  4. Shooters Connection carries both brands and many other things you will want: http://shootersconnection.com/store/index.php
  5. I just started shooting USPSA this year with Fobus stuff. If I was going to do it over again I probably would have spent the extra money on a Blade-Tech holster and CR Speed Mag pouches/belt. Still using the Fobus Mag pouches but going to upgrade soon. From what I have seen in the Classifieds section on this board that stuff doesn't loose a lot of value. If you decide to get out of the sport there is a good chance you can get a good chunck of your money back.
  6. Check out the pic on the front page of the VSRPA website. This is the 600 yard view. http://www.vsrpa.org/index.html
  7. We have a club here that does competitions where they shoot 200, 300, and 600 yards with iron sights I did the intro class at 200yards and was surprised that I could hit the target (using AR15's). The 600 yard shots are prone only but that is a long way to shoot without a scope!!

    Vanek Custom

Just installed the Vanek Super Trigger Kit (Limited G35). If you have the cash I would highly recommend it. I am new to USPSA and pretty new to shooting in general also an Engineer so like numbers. This is approx. data from a couple of shooting sessions before and after the install. Accuracy seemed to improve as well but that is harder to measure. Times are typical units in (Seconds) Before the Vanek (0.25 Cent Trigger Job/LWD trigger stop) ====================================== Split range (0.33 - 0.42) Bill Drill (3.6 - 4.0) After (Venek Super Trigger Kit) =========================== Split range (0.23 - 0.29) Bill Drill (3.0 - 3.5) Also did a 59% El-Prez (9.09, -2) Never got close to this level before (previous best was ~40%)
  9. +1 Cat Crap in my opinion is the best anti-fog and a good cleaner as well. I ride snowmobiles with glasses which is probably one of the most difficult sports for wearing glasses. Cat Crap is not perfect but the best I have found and I have tried many. The only down side is it's not quick to apply like wipes so just remember to use it the day before you shoot.
  10. Great factory load in a G35, very soft shooting. This is the round I used in Limited with my G35 (prior to my Dillon purchase). Chrono'd at several major matches at about 1030fps which is just under 170pf. Could never find it locally, but http://www.natchezss.com always seemed to have it in stock Checked out the natchezss site and they have the Federal stuff on sale right now for the same price shipped as the WWB 165gr. from Walmart. I would probably order some but think I am going to try the Atlanta Arms re-loads first. In 40 S&W they will save ~$60 per 1000 rounds. Would assume from what I have read, the Atlanta Arms Ammo will give the best performance for competition.
  11. You don't say who, but I've been shooting 9mm (147gr JHP) reloads from Atlanta Arms in matches recently and they shoot quite consistently - as good or better than anything I can make myself. And, they make a really satisfying "thump" when they hit the steel poppers - and kick up a lot of dirt when I miss Think I am convinced and going to try some of the 40 S&W T40180 Major Ammo from Atlanta Arms. Is anyone else shooting this ammo in their Glock with a factory barrel?
  12. I have been shooting the WWB 165gr exclusively but after reading this thread thought I would try the Federal. Did a comparison shooting 100 rounds of each and think the Federal is better. Not by a large margin but overall recoil and accuracy Federal wins. Now if you could only buy it a Wally World in value packs!
  13. I tried this today at 25 yds. I am a new shooter and my accuracy is not that good but I did find that shooting with total front sight focus seemed to give me better results but they weren't too far off from the target focus results. Probably need to try this a few more times to get a better feel for it. Did notice with target focus my shots were hitting to the left where front sight they were centered. Front sight: 7 A's, 1B, 2 C's Target: 6A's, 4C's
  14. Ok, must have done the poll wrong the first time. Maybe this will work.
  15. Looks like the poll did not show up at least for me. Can anyone else see the poll?
  16. I would like to start shooting re-loads from a quality ammo company but a little concerned from other topics found on the forum. I know there is a lot of info on this subject but thought a poll would be a good way to sum up the results from everyone. Not quite ready to re-load myself. If I ever get to that point I will probably buy an aftermarket barrel.
  17. After trying the dime drills (assuming I am doing them correctly) it seems they take up a lot of time that could be spent just dry firing without the dime and watching the sight movement against a white background. Do other people find the dime drills an effective training tool? Seems like there would be some error in placing the dime on the sight so depending on how well you place the dime it may effect the outcome.
  18. You can use a Fobus holster with the .285 FO front sight but you have to modify it to clear. I used a die grinder to remove some of the material and now the sight clears with no problems. Is there another reason to not use a holster where the front sight protrudes out the bottom other than the clearance issue?
  19. I just got a set of Dawson F. O. sights for my G35. Found after some experimentation that cutting out the rear fibers and filling the holes with something to make them all black (I used black silicon) works the best. Also changing the color of the front to Green helped out a lot. All three fibers is better looking but seems to be difficult to focus on for high speed shooting.
  20. Seems like the biggest problem was the Red FO in the front sight. Found my eyes could not always focus on the Red for some reason. I changed it to Green and removed the rear FO's and filled the holes with black silicon. Also played around with keeping the open holes there. Think that would have been ok but all black is probably better. I can now shoot groups ok and love how the Green FO works when shooting competition style Also would like to mention that Brian's book has been a great help in making me aware of things to look for and try when shooting in general. Would definitely recommend his book to anyone who has not read it yet.
  21. Thanks for all the advice! I did read that most shooters end up going with an all black rear sight but figure I can always paint the fiber black, take them out or put some black silicon over them, or something like that. Has anyone done this? What is the best method other than buying new rear sights?
  22. Just replaced my G35 adj. sights with Dawson fiber optic adj. rear with .100 x .285 fiber optic front sights. Found them to be much better shooting IPSC targets at competition speed but when trying to shoot groups found them to be difficult. Is this normal and with practice should I be able to shoot good groups and do well with IPSC competitions or do you trade in the accuracy for the better performance in IPSC type events? Haven't tried them in a competition yet but a little worried about shooting steel.
