  1. I have been shooting a para p-16 for 12 years and at first it was unreliable, but this was back when all of the 4o's in 1911 form where not the most reliable fire arm. after learning to long load the ammo and making a few adjustment the gun is totaly reliable and accurate. I shoot a load that makes 175 power factor and the brass shows no pressure signs and is easy to reload. I have seen both STI and SVI have to go back to the factor for repairs.
  2. I read this post with interest because my girl friend shoots a glock 35 and I shoot a M&P 40 so I load 180 grain copper wash of hard cast bullets with 5.2 of 231 to make major with both guns. My process for loading to prevent set back and make loads that are reliable is I first run all of my brass through a u die in single stage press, then load it on my 1050 with a lee factory crimp die after my seating die with the crimp er backed all of the way out so there is no crimp at this stage and then use dillion crimp die in last station I get no set back and my brass has no signs of pressure in either gun. I have also seen glock 40 KB and they where using tight group powder. I think that this is to fast of a powder for the 40. Also I like to shoot lead in my 40 part of the time and have found 231 both accurate and low in smoke with lead
  3. I have found that universal is a good medium powder 44 mag but does not work well in 45 acp, the 45 works at to low of pressure and you end up with alot of unburned powder and too much spread in velocity. I like Winchester super target for lead loads in a 45 also 231 is a good powder for the 45.
  4. I talked to the Smith & Wesson rep. on Friday and he told me that they are thinking of a long slid 40 but they are way behind in delivery of thier currant models. Also Glock has a more complete line up in each calibar but have been building this typw of gun for a longer time. As for accuracy I have found that it is more than good enough for our shooting and when they first started to use the 9mm for bulls eye they had to do alot with it same with the 40.
  5. N350 with mg hp124 8.2 and starline supercomp. 5 inch barrell with 5 port comp and 2 poppet holes, at 2009 Area 1 went 174 power factor
  6. Springfield Armory loaded as minimum and then go to Les Baer of STI
  7. I have a stainless Springfield armory signel stack loaded that seems very heavy compared to some of my other signal stacks and wondered if it will make the 43 once weight factor in uspsa's new rule book.I know I can weigh it but do not have access to a scale that would be accurate at this time.
  8. This is going to be trail and error approach to this gun. I am going to try things and then report back on my experience. I have been shooting uspsa sense before if was uspsa. My first matches where in 1980, with browning high power it did not work very well. I then went to a colt series 70 and stated the modifications that it took to be copetive. I then started to build my own single stacks and a few for friends. Enough said this will be a fun experience. I find that I shoot this gun about 40 % slower than my open gun part of that is sights, and very bad trigger compared to my open gun. I relize that the 4.25 inch barrel is a handicap but I have along way to go before I can blame the gun. The gun also drops the slide when you reload from slide lock and I do not know if this is goig to be a problem or not. I will do a trigger job on it when I have enough rounds through it, that I won't have to send it back to Smith and Wesson.
  9. I have not been much of a poster on this sight but I thought I would start. I have a new M&P 40 and am starting to shoot it in limited, and I thought I would post some of my observations. I am starting out with the pistol stock and thought I would keep people informed with my experice with this gun. My first observation is that the sights are hard to pick up when shooting steel and the trigger is very heave after my open gun. As I shoot more I will decide on the sights I will use. This is what I have for equipment know, Bladetech DOH several different styles of mag pouches and wilderness instructer belt. I also bought 5 new high cap mags along with the 2 that came with the gun. My load is 5.2 of 231 with either a 180 grain lead or 180 grain copper wash bullet. The gun seems to feel soft when I shoot it, but is barely making major with this load. The barrel is showing signs of leading with lead, and I have had s few FTF as I adjust my 1050 primer setting when I changed from Winchester to CCI primers. The CCI would not seat as deep as the Winchesters and are harder to seat much perferr Winchesters. These FTF's would not have happen with a 1911 style gun. Over all I like this gun and am looking forward to this experiment.
  10. I would like to know if this would work for a woman in limited and what would be a geed belt and pouches for this set up Thanks
  11. when loading very top quality ammo for a rifle you use a dial indicator in a fixture to ck run out I think this is the problem see if you can ck your loads with one of these tools
  12. On October 25 th 2008 at 12:25 am Ulrich past. He was my best friend of 25 years and will be missed. He was my mentor and friend, all those years.
