Hi Guys,
Just curious, why are you re-cutting the forcing cone? Is 11 degrees different from the factory cut? How do you know if a revolver needs to have the forcing cone re-cut?
Thanks,

Try giving Rick McDowell a call at competition specialties down in Osceola. We have a USPSA match down there Sunday, come on down and shoot...

Thanks LilBunni,
That pretty much answers that question. I was hoping that they would allow them in. Since a lot of the revolver shooters are getting up in years, it seemed like a natural place to allow them in.

So, will a revolver now be able to compete as long as it meets the weight restriction?

I bought both a 627 and a 929 this year. Both needed the same internal work and re-springing. The 929 took a bit more in the spring department, but has settled in at 6 lbs, the same as the 627. I have the usual combination of Starline brass, TK moonclips, and 160 gr bullets for the 627. The 929 took a bit more work, but I settled on Lapua 9mm brass, the TK moonclips that came with the gun, and 135 gr bullets. I use Titegroup for both. The 929 will require the use a race holster. I sometimes shoot both at the same local match. I'd have to give a slight edge to the 627. But both are within a couple of percentage points. At this point I wouldn't be afraid of either of them.

If they changed the rules so that they are the same as production is today, but you can add an optic sight, wouldn't that allow revolvers to compete. I've been playing with my 627 and 929 with optic sight and they are really easy/fun to shoot. With my eyes getting worse, I'm considering shooting open with my 929. I wouldn't be competitive at all, but it would be fun.

Sorry, I haven't been following this too closely. Are they considering changing the basic rules for this division for the upcoming year? Not complaining, I would love to shoot my revolver with optic sights if it would be legal...

I switched this year to keeping the gun in my strong hand. It feels just about the same as far as speed goes, but I'm way more consistent on my reloads. Plus, I think I have better control as far as breaking the 180...

Are there any problems using the Lapua 9mm brass with the factory .035 TK moonclips? I tried a few and got some light strikes.

I have a batch of 24 short colt brass that I shoot out of my 929 just to see what will happen. They are on their 7th time thru and show no signs of wear yet. I resize them and then check to see if they work in my 627(which they would). I use 3.1 grains of TiteGroup under a 160gr Bayou bullet....
I shot both my 627 and 929 at the local steel match last week. My scores were better with the 627 by about 5%. I'm not used to shooting the 929 yet, so pretty much a toss up..

Since using the Short Colt in the 929 causes the brass to expand a bit more, will the reworking of the brass eventually cause it to fail sooner? I hadn't heard of anyone doing this. I would much rather use one load for my 627 and 929...

Hello: Why not just call it slide mounted optics division, scored minor, 10 round mags and use any pistol you have? No weight limits or approved list. If you want to use a Glock go ahead, if you want to use a STI with slide mounted optic go ahead. No optic and iron sights go ahead. Revolvers could play as well. That way everyone can play. Thanks, Eric
There's the answer that I'm looking for. For now, I'll put my RTS2 on my 627 and play in minor open. At 63 years old the sights are pretty hard to find. Never shot a red dot before, so this should be fun.

Hi All,
I just took my new chronograph out to the range today. My previous chrono showed my 160 grain bullets traveling at 830fps. They M2 shows them at about 500, but the 10x icon is on. The manual says that velocities below 1000 will be in 10x decimeters. How to stop it from doing this?
Thanks,

I'm just getting back into revolver after a bunch of years off. I have a 625-4 5inch and 627-8 Performance center. I chose the 627 with short colts from Starline, 160 grain coated bullets from TwoAlpha, moonclips from TK, reloading/unloading tool from BMT, TiteGroup powder, and Lee short colt reloading dies. I works wonderfully, way ahead of the 625. I considered the 9mm route, but am glad that I went this route. The brass has been loaded 4-5 times and looks like new.

Just a thought. If you limited capacity to 8 rounds, single stack .45s and 8-shot revolvers would be in the mix of things.

Thanks for getting that cleared up, Craig. I would have guessed that it was not legal.

Does anybody know why they didn't create BUG-R so that it was a five shot division? Everyone has a J-frame. So what if you have to reload bunch more times, everyone in the division will be doing the same thing. There are plenty of holsters and speed loaders available out there.

Which one would you pick and why?

I'm 63 and diabetic. Last year I lost 35 pounds, started lifting weights, rode my bicycle religiously, and eat very few carbs. I was able to stop taking one of my oral meds and no longer require insulin. The single biggest difference that I noticed was at the end of a match I still had energy. It helps both physically and mentally

Virgil Tripp makes a 10 round .40/10mm mag that fits in the single stack box. You have to call and ask for them. I have them and they work just fine...

Has anyone tried the Tripp 10 round .40 System mags for a 1911? These will allow 10 rounds, but still fit in the box. I had some Tripp mags for a .40 1911 that I bought in 2007. I never could get them to work. I even sent them back to Tripp, but I had no luck.
Thanks,

I think that this would be a great idea. Would there be anything stopping us from trying this at local matches? My one concern would be that this would start an equipment race of sorts. I'm sure everyone would be loading short colt brass, shortened .38 special brass, or whatever else we could dream up. Pretty soon shooting plain old .38 special ammo would no longer be competitive. Is this really a valid concern, I'm not sure?

I have twin 8 year old grandsons that I am introducing to shooting. Right now they shoot rimfire rifles off of sandbags. Occasionally, they get to play with the airsoft pistols. I'd say it will be a couple of more years before they move up to handguns.

I don't shoot the major matches because I just can't shoot 10-12 stages anymore. At this point, I'm just happy to be out there shooting with everyone. I still like to compete with the other seniors, but I still compare myself to the younger shooters.

I found an old pair of glasses that were quite a bit weaker than my current prescription. They allowed me to see the sight much clearer, though the targets were a bit fuzzy. I had my optometrist make me some contacts in that old prescription, works great.
