  1. So the way I understand it. I can run any magwell or mag release in Single Stack Division as long as it fits in the box and the gun makes weight at 43 ozs. Is this correct?

I am considering the Dawson ICE but I am confused by the gap/no gap feature??? I plan to call Dawson and ask question but I thought I would ask here first to get shooters opinions. I need to keep this light because I am putting it on a 9mm RO.

I have used traditional style magwells in the past like SA sells. But this time I want a bigger magwell. I also want to run an over size mag release. Any input or suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Keith

  2. I think it's 'practical' to focus on running a pistol quickly and accurately and leave 'tactics' for a non-competitive occasion when they will actually be taken seriously.

    This^

This is a great question though. Blind stages belong in a training atmosphere were the point is to learn from the "surprise" element of the shooting challenge.

There are quite a few things that are best left to "training only". Weak hand draws, use of multiple concealable weapons, use of non-firearm weapons, etc.

Shooting competitions, especially USPSA is fabulous and fun. But it is best to keep to what works well in a competition environment.

  3. I wish you guys would tell me you're calling, So I know to be polite on the phone.

silicon cloth..have done both. works fine. just buy a silicone reel cloth at Walmart in sporting goods.

Stuart you were very helpful and polite.

    Thanks again,

  4. I ordered new mag springs and a mag brush. Moving forward I will take the advice "If it hits the ground clean it."

BeerBaron - I'm sure you are right.

The pistol and mags are about three years old. previous owner had them in the safe not being used. I'm hoping new springs and keeping them clean does the trick.

    Thanks again,

    Keith

  5. Is that the way the bullet looked in the mag when it left the gun or after it hit the ground? Bouncing off the ground can do fugly things to bullets in a mag.

When I felt the gun not cycle I immediately did an emergency reload and not the tap - rack - bang so I'm not sure. You could be right that this happened when the mag hit the ground.

I was sent a message with a link. I will share it: http://maxmichel.com/tips/tip-3-magazine-maintenance/

    Thanks again,

  6. There was a lot of loose dirt where I dropped the mag after the jam. There was just the one jam. The mags were clean when I started the match. They looked good to go after each stage, not too dirty. but I did not break them down and clean them after each stage. Perhaps I should start doing just that.

I cleaned all the mags again tonight. Now with clean mags and loading unloading by hand the spring pressure on the rounds is not very strong until the last 3 or 4 rounds.

    Thanks for the input,
    Keith

  7. Things were going great with my new to me SP-01 at the match today for 3 stages. Then on the 4th and last stage I had a jam in the mag. The picture below is how the mag jammed. My loads are at 1.130 OAL using Bear Creek 135 grain round nose. Will new mag springs most likely clear this issue up?

  8. I saw this video back in 2009 when this thread was started. The TJ video was the funniest thing I had seen on the BE humor forum. It was pulled pretty soon after it came out never to be seen again.

  9. SPRSkip Could you share what hardware you used to make this?

I'm an electronics guy so I can figure that stuff out. I'm curious on what you used to make the plunger assembly that detects the SPP brass. I'm assuming the size is such that it enters the flash hole on LPP brass. But is pressed down by SPP brass which activates the plunger button which completes the circuit and turns on the light (or buzzer if you wanted). Am I right?

    Thanks in advance,

    Keith

  10. 1.250 is a good starting point. Pull the barrel out of your pistol and use is as an ammo gauge. Start with the rounds a little long. When the round goes "Plunk" and the back end of the round is even with the edge of the barrel hood extension you are good to go.

Here is a link to a discussion about this on the 1911 forum. You need to be registered to see the pictures. --> http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=256495

  11. Obviously, the chances of finding the non list gun here is remote to non existent.

Actually many non-list guns are very available:

    1) Here is a link to an explanation of Single Shot Exemption on Calguns--> http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=383692

    2) Here is a Dealer who does SSE for any 1911---> http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=842325

    Best regards,

    Keith

I meant the chances of finding the gun YOU WANT here legally are slim.....

BTW: the SSE (single shot exemption) reads as follows: you want your 1911 with a six inch barrel? How many 1911's are 10 1/2 inches in total length?

"B) The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to a

single-shot pistol with a barrel length of not less than six

inches and that has an overall length of at least 10 1/2 inches

when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel are assembled"

"An FFL can then take an off roster semi-automatic handgun (it can be done with revolvers too), and by using aftermarket parts (longer barrel and magazine well block), convert it to a single shot with the required barrel and OAL length."

SSE is not complicated at all. Bountyhunter if you are a resident of California you should speak to a Dealer who does SSE. No offense intended, It sounds like you may not fully understand the process.

    Take care,

    Keith

  13. Roster and non-roster handguns are sold by private parties on Calguns.

    Link is here---> http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/forumdisplay.php?f=332

If you want a non-roster handgun find a dealer who does SSE or buy from a private party. You can get what you want in California (at least for now) but there are hoops to jump through and it will cost a little more.

I would get the handgun you want before the midway point of 2014. There is a good chance more laws will go on the books this year making it more difficult. Also panic buying will ensue when the general public realizes what is going on:(

My props go to Glock and the others that continue to battle the oppresion we face in this state.

    Good luck in your search,

    Keith
