  1. rangertrace,

When you disassemble the 1911, you turn the bushing clockwise (from the front of the gun) to release the recoil spring and then turn the bushing counterclockwise to allow the bushing and barrel to be removed from the gun.

Here is a video of the disassembly of a 1911. I hope this helps.

    Another disassembly and assembly video

    Hope this helps

Dennis, I'm sorry I wasn't very clear. I know how to take apart a 1911/2011.

This pistol has a bushing/compensator combo. The bushing/comp does not rotate far enough (or was not relieved enough) to release the plug. And the guide rod won't move forward enough to get it past the link. It is extremely close, but not quite far enough forward to get it by the link/barrel lug.

I should not have posted without the pistol here, but I thought someone might know exactly what I was talking about.

    Thanks

  2. A buddy of mine traded for a Colt 1911, 45 acp, with a comp/bushing combo. He asked me to help him take it apart and I could not get the comp/bushing off. It wouldn't rotate far enough to come out of the slide. Anyone familiar with the comp/bushing combo I'm talking about? I'm not looking at it, so please forgive the vague description. I was supposed to post this question a few weeks ago.

If you are familiar with it, please descibe in detail how to get it apart.

    THANKS!!

  3. I don't reload and I am about to purchase another case of ammo. I have been using factory reloads from the Hunting Shack which were 180 grain/985 fps TMJ bullets. I have had zero problems them. I noticed that for a little more money I can get 155 grain bullets/1150 fps.

Which would be better for USPSA? Which do you think would have less felt/perceived recoil? I have to order by the case and I can't afford to make a mistake.

Should I stick with what has been working or try the lighter bullets?

I noticed that Atlanta Arms only offers the 180 grain rounds.

  4. I'm going to be out of town for my next local match in Tyler/Chandler on the first Sunday. Does anyone know the schedules or locations of other local matches in my area? I would really like to find one for this Saturday.

I was also looking at the thread on the Double Tap in Wichita Falls. Would that be too advanced for someone thats only shot around 10 matches?

  5. Good job. Keep up the good work!!

I have both of those books also, but have not taken the time to implement the practice. I want to and need to, but just can't make myself do it. It seems I always end up doing a little dry fire the week before my local match. I WILL put Anderson's book to good use one of these days!!

Keep us posted on your progress!

  6. For some reason, I am on a roll of stripping hex head grip screws on my SS 1911s. In the last three weeks, I've done it three times. I've never had this problem before. I was using a Brownell's screwdriver with a hex head bit the first two times. So today, I used the wrench supplied with the brand new Wilson grip screws. It seemed like a perfect fit and still stripped one. Anyone else having this problem?

I don't think I am overtightening them. I just get them snug and go a little farther. Not like a lug nut or anything, just tight. It seems more like a bad fit between the wrench and the screw to me. I realize it is not rocket science, but it is still kicking my butt.

  7. Thank you guys, that is what I thought, but wasn't sure!! I think I will leave this RM in the gun to see how well it works.

I do have to wonder why STI doesn't include a takedown tool with every pistol they sell with a RM installed!?!

  8. My new Tactical came with a Recoilmaster in it. I have searched and found lots of opinions on them, but I have another question.

After using the takedown tool to remove the RM from the pistol, what happens if you remove the tool to free the springs. Is it still captured on the rod? Are you supposed to leave the tool on it and clean/lube around it?

I know I should probably just try it, but I would like to have an idea of what it will do, when I do.

  9. Thanks for all of the compliments!! I am very happy to finally have it and can hardly wait to shoot it. The weather has been real crappy here for the last several days. I may just have to wait until next week to qualify with it.

This is my second Wilson and I have been impressed with their work. I would like to see what they could do with an STI based pistol. They offered to build me one if I would send them a frame/slide but I just can't afford that build right now.

  10. Seth and Merlin are both right on. I'm in this to have fun and see how high I can go. Its really not about winning for me, I just want to earn the highest classification card I can and have fun while doing it. It helps me a little at work too!

With that said, I know several people who already have spares they would let me shoot if I needed to. However, if my wife asks................it is absolutely required to have a back up pistol!!

  11. Back in January I started working with Wilson Combat on a group pistol purchase for the Rangers. The pistol markings took several months to come together and we started placing orders in July or so.

I placed my order (for a light weight Professional in 38 Super) which shipped on Wednesday night.

OK, it should be here on Thursday......right? Its always overnight shipping on guns, right!! WRONG!!

I tracked my package and learned from WC that UPS now allows them to use 2 day shipping.

So, now its Friday and the long awaited day has come!!!! I mope around town all day, waiting for the call from my FFL. After the usual time passes, I check the tracking number and learn the shipment was delayed and won't be here until Monday. I know it is the weather but it still makes me sick!!

    Does this sound familiar Sethmark!!

I was thinking.."get over it.." until I saw the pictures... Instant wood.

Coming from you Merlin, THAT is one hellova compliment....................thanks!
