  1. Airgunning is defined in the glossary as : To understand the principle behind the rule , you need to go back to the beginning of IDPA - the little red book and how IDPA was first formed. "In the beginning" IDPA was promoted - mostly throught the gun rags , as the be all - end all practical shooting sport at a time when the new buzz word was (and remains) TACTICAL (insert sounds of trumpets here). At the time , everyone who had range access was a TACTICAL (trumpets again) instructor and CCW was taking foot across this great land of ours. The gunrags were jumping on the TACTICAL (tadaaa) bandwagon and IDPA just happened to get in at the right time. Everything seemed geared to the CCW market - and for good reason , it was a market that had largely been ignored . The BoD , many who had major roles in the shooting and TACTICAL (!) community set the tone , that since IDPA was supposed to be "defensive pistol" , there would not be the conga-line rehearsals that were prevalent in their counterpart. After all , when did a DGU ever get a warning-order prior to an assault? The Green Book addressed airgunning with the "no sight pictures" in the beginning pages and our latest version of rules defines airgunning in a glossary! Taking all that into context , any "act of going through the motions" would be construed as airgunning and that is what conflicts with the Purpose of the sport "..to test the skill and ability of the individual , not equipment or gamesmanship" and Principles II. provide a level playing field for all competitors to test the skill and ability of each individual , not equipment and gamesmanship. IV.Provide shooters with practical and realistic courses of fire that simulate potentially life-threatening encounters , or that tests skills required to survive life-threateing encounters. my 2 cents , Mark
  2. DP40, Thaks for that report , enjoyed reading it! You just gave me an idea to try for my match next Saturday: Stages with no cover* . Shooters could shoot on the move or static between 2 points , a start and end. * that doesn't mean the targets will be fully exposed either Ain't that the truth . Glad you had fun and enjoyed your return back to IDPA. Mark
  3. "..first IDPA match in 18 months.." Cool , looking forward to it! Mark
  4. I'll be working Rob's match both days . If we finish early enough , will do the SGC IDPA match on the way home. until that day Mark
  5. Intel6, Rio runs a pretty informal IDPA match on the 4th Saturday of the month at 4pm. Open squadding like TueNiSteel. Check their website for more details. until that day Mark
  6. Leather or kydex? I'm guessing you want an OWB ? for leather I've used Alessi for K&L frames with Safariland Split 6 holders w/snap. Kydex - I have some time with a Bladetech on the 66. The kydex holsters from pistolpacking.co are the cleanest revo plastic that I have ever seen. photo from www.pistolpacking.com , looks like they can do custom work too. Speedloaders for an N frame ? My favorite Safariland compII aren't made for the N frame , have no idea on other brands.. Good luck, M
  7. Thank you Thank you Thank you The sooner a 'naysayer' is corrected by his cojorts/squadmates that this is what the games are all about - the bias will eventually disappear. Is it a mission without end? Probably , but what else are you there for besides the shooting? Score and tape ?? I can only hope.. Until that day Mark
  8. The "game" factor isn't the issue here - we all know they are games or recreational past-time. The point is the bias that some folks hold against players of the other sports , it has to stop. The question is - how to accomplish that objective ? until that day, Mark
  9. The majority of my match time is 90-100% IDPA/TSA. On occasion I will venture to our club steel match or an IPSC match at RioSalado - but Rio is waaaaayyyy over on the other side of the valley , for me it's to far a drive.. fwiw, Mark
  10. vincent , there are similar concerns shared at http://1911forum.com/forums/showthread.php...98&page=2&pp=25 looks like there may be some light at the end of the tunnel. until that day, mark

  12. if any of you guys have a SO lesson plan you would like to make public - I have space at azidpa.net that I can volunteer.. fwiw, Mark
  13. Gents , Thanks for the comments. before this thread takes a turn for the worst, please contribute something in the positive and leave the negative vibes for other places. What I was getting at in the opening was to take something away from the Nationals incident , learn from whatever lessons you think are there and apply some of them at the local level and above. For starters , things like : Apply a PE when it is warranted . FTDR included. Dump the IPSC vs. IDPA attitude - it looks like in most cases this is already happening and that is a good thing Apply the rules fairly across the board . Stay current on the rulebook , there are some post dated rules that will take effect in the future. until that day, mark
  14. Somewhere on the 'net is 'IDPA for Dummies' which covered a good deal about the sport , it was based on the LGB . I think that format would be a good one to work off of. fwiw, Mark
  15. Vincent . idpaforums has a section for clarifications from HQ - but has seen little use. which leads me to believe that There aren't many clarifications anymore between HQ and the end users that forum or particular section of that forum isn't well publicized. More to follow.. M
  16. All , After reading Taran Butlers reply in the dq thread - I was amazed that there is still a bias towards USPSA shooters from the IDPA crowd. Especially at a major match like the Nationals. When a prominent figure like Sevigney says "..why don't you just wear a bullseye on your back" for wearing an IPSC shirt , then you know an issue still exist in this sport. USPSA and IDPA both have much to offer each venue. Both sports can learn from 'cross-over' shooters if given the chance. IDPA-only shooters can learn a great deal from USPSA shooters if they remove the tactical blinders and open both their eyes and mind. I am embarrased for the sport of IDPA and I hope everyone here who participates in IDPA can learn something from this incident and apply it to the club match and beyond. 17. Ted ---- and any other active posters in this forum, (cut)... ... Last but not least, my name appears on the forum --- if you see something posted here, that you think might require moderation, feel free to pm me a link anytime. While we (moderators) try mightily, most of us can't read every thread or post on the forums. Even when we do, our perception may be different than yours. If you stew silently, we can't address your concerns; if you send us a pm, we may --- or at least we'll discuss the situation with you. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm not Ted , but that seems fair and reasonable to me . Thank you , both for the offer and the work that you do here. Mark
  18. Does anyone here have contact info for Taran? Maybe let him know this thread is active?? I would like to hear his side of the story..
  19. Mr. Dean , As far as "IPSC bashing" , that is quite the stretch imo. Granted , there are definite attacks in the prior rule book (LGB) but that is behind us now. I always considered that poor form on IDPA's account to put those into print. As far as Ted Murphy's concerns regarding the tone on this forum regarding IDPA - I am in complete agreement, which is why I spend more time here than on other IDPA related forums. It's always good to get opposing viewpoints as long as they offer constructive criticism , imnsho. "Gentlemen can disagree and remain gentlemen" until that day, Mark
  20. IDPA is oerating under a new rule set - there is no mention of IPSC that I can find in the first 20 pages . If I am mistaken , please point them out. until that day Mark
  21. T. Butler Div:ESP , Class:Master Final score 205.16 (33PD). Would have been 5th ESP/MA if the score stood.
  22. You can start by reading the rule book. The actions described by 'down0' are covered by rules C1 and C2. It appears to me that Mr. Butler simply forgot to remove the IPSC hat for this match - there are some things taken for granted in that sport which do not carry over into IDPA. Hell of a way to get dq'd (after the fact) though..
  23. the book says you may not lighten the slide. You can put the frame and magazines on a diet . Use a short recoil guide rod instead of a full length one. Thin grip panels . should be G2G..
  24. ESP has 43 oz limit including mag - to play with . My guess is that your's will be close. I have an electronic scale if you want to send it over when it's done There has never been a Caspian HiCap pass through any IDPA match that I've seen around here - and we got guys that are gold members of the gun-of-the-month club.
