  1. On November 12, 2011, the Central Florida Defensive Pistol Association (CFDPA) and the Central Florida Rifle & Pistol Club are hosting the inaugural Citrus Challenge IDPA match in Orlando, FL. Building off the past success of the CFDPA’s Sunshine State Games IDPA match, the Citrus Challenge will be a one day sanctioned match featuring 10 stages of fire. With the match limited to 120 shooters and scheduled to take advantage of Orlando’s beautiful fall weather, this match is sure to sell out in short order. For match details and registration material, please visit the Match Website. Daniel Corriveau, Match Director citrus.challenge-at-gmail.com
  2. Kevin, Thanks for the tips. I've just started playing with SketchUp for IDPA stage design and once I get it figured out it will be a blast! Daniel
  3. I have to add another thumbs up for Dan Burwell. He's done both of my M&P's that I use in competition. The first was the full sized 9 and when I got the Pro the trigger was better than stock, but nothing compared to Dan's work, so he did that one as well. Great work, good guy, and he can even shoot ok too. Daniel
  4. Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, reloading is not in the plans, so factory ammo it is.
  5. OK, so I have been a SSP shooter since I started shooting IDPA and I am thinking of getting a new gun (S&W 686 SSR) to shoot some SSR from time to time for fun. What I am wondering is what are you SSR shooters using for ammo? Based on what I have found, plain jane .38 special ball ammo will not make power factor (125,000). So I am wondering if I am missing something. I assume that most of you are loading some hot .38 rounds or downloading .357 brass. Thanks, Daniel
  6. OK, My father is having an issue with his new Pro. As background, he lives in NY State and is saddled with the 10 round magazines. His issue is as follows: - Gun loaded with one in the chamber and a fully loaded 10 round magazine inserted in the gun (he’s shooting IDPA in SSP). He pulls the trigger, the gun fires and ejects the spent case but it fails to feed the next round. - He said that the slide stops at about the mid-point of the top round in the magazine, as if the slide had enough energy to eject the empty case, but not enough energy to strip off the top round. - Also, this is only an issue for his three magazines that have the new follower (the ones marked with a “9”). His one magazine with the older follower design works fine. He said that the older design seems to have a little bit (1/8” or so) of extra space vertically when fully loaded, where the new followers are 100% packed in with no extra space. - Other than some light polishing on the trigger bar and firing pin block plunger, the gun is stock. Any thoughts or suggestions you may have would be appreciated…and he isn’t moving to a free state without magazine capacity laws so you can skip that one. Thanks, Daniel
  7. Mike, what do you mean by "push feed a round?" I've never heard that term before. Thanks, Daniel
  8. Like many othe people's Pros, mine developed the extration problem after a good bit of reliable operation...in my case it was about ~1200 rounds. I replaced the extractor with the SSS extractor and installed their extra-power extractor spring at the same time. So far I have 281 rounds of Remington UMC 115 gr. ball through it with the new extractor and it has been 100% I am not going to say that the problem is fixed until I get to ~600 as once the extraction issue started the failure rate was once every ~250-300 rounds. Good luck, I hope you get it working.
  9. I own both types. My belt holster does not meet the IDPA holster requirements, i.e. there is daylight visible through the kydex belt loops when I am wearing the holster. Not wanting to get dinged at a major match, I purchased the paddle holster and have not looked back.
  10. Now that looks like a memorable stage! I would love to read the stage description.
  11. I have to commend the BOD for their hard work. These new rules seem pretty clear and straight forward. Personally, I am happy to see that my IDPA production gun (M&P with a Burwell trigger job) will be compliant with USPSA rules. I'm not sure how much of a consideration this "inter-compliance" between the two sports was in the development process, but it is appreciated. Well done!
  12. Jane, Thank you for the interesting information! Daniel
  13. When I became an SO, durring training we specifically discussed the issue of the magazine disconnect in the HiPower and were told that disabling it is a violation. Based on that, I would disagree with you that changing configurations from one config to another is not a violation. I agree with your example of the beaver tail safety, but the way the rule is written and what I have been told by my area coordinator the rule does encompass the mag disconnect. I'd like to hear what IDPA HQ has to say about it. Daniel
  14. Lugnut, I agree that enforcing this rule is very difficult for SOs. They (or at least I) don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of what guns do or don't have disconnects and if you don’t know how a particular gun comes from the factory you can’t enforce the rule. But for instance, if the SO notices a competitor shooting a HiPower without a disconnect and he knows that disconnects are a fairly common feature, the SO can ask about the safety. If the shooter says that it came this way from the factory then so be it, but if he says his buddy took it out, then that is a different situation. It’s like enforcing round dumping (not to open up another can of worms). If a shooter takes an extra shot on a series of targets and gets to reload at a more convenient position, it is very difficult to prove he/she was intentionally round dumping and not making up a shot. But if you hear someone analyzing the stage and says “Hey, if you take an extra shoot here you can reload there instead,” it is a different situation. I am sure you would agree there are much more important things for an SO to pay attention to when running squads through a COF. Daniel
  15. Please don't get me wrong, I don't like the rule at all. Personally, I would like to see it exclude magazine disconnects, which are not a safety in my opinion. A rule requiring grip safeties and thumb safties be functioning I have no problem with. Without a doubt, enforcing, even on an M&P, is difficult. If I were to notice a shooter with an M&P without the warring on the slide and without a disconnect, I would ask who or if he refinished his slide. If he had a quick and direct answer I would likely leave it at that...if he says it's the original finish we would then have further discussion on the issue. If I were to find a competitor in violation of this rule at a club level match, I would inform him that his firearm is in violation of the rules, which he may or may not be aware of, and inform the MD of the violation. If the MD wanted to give him a DQ and send him home or simply tell him to finish the match and come next month with a firearm that is in compliance, it would make no difference to me. But if this were a major sanctioned match, I would have no issue giving someone a DQ for this violation, regardless of my opinion of the rule itself. This may seem like a double standard, but it is how I would personally approach it. Daniel
  16. The M&Ps without the mag disconnect have the lawyer warning on the right side of the slide. Although I have never verified it, I would assume M&Ps with the disconnect do not have this language on the slide. I am both an SO and a M&P shooter, so I would notice this type of detail and would make note of the shooter's procedure when holstering after completing the COF. Bottom line is get one without the safety or if your state requires it, shoot one and determine if you can live with the trigger the way it is and if you can't pick another firearm. Daniel
  17. The "Factory Option" logic does not extend to disabling safeties. Pg. 18 lists "Non-IDPA Legal Modifications for ALL Divisions"...item "E: Disconnection or disabling of any safety device on any gun." Even if you can get the firearm without the safety from the factory, if your gun came with it and you disable it, you will be in violation. I feel your pain, I would love to remove the magazine disconnect from my HiPower for competition, but it's not happening. Daniel, IDPA SO
  18. I've been using the Tomahawk by First Light USA. I've been very pleased with it...simple controls, 120 lumen, and fairly easy to use in conjunction with a two handed grip with no trouble performaning reloads while holding the flashlight at the same time. Daniel
  19. Craig, Just to make sure I am reading the website correctly, Saturday squads have been rescheduled to 8AM from 9AM, corrrect? Also, will those of us shooting on Saturday be able to come by on Friday to take care of shooter registration ahead of time? Thanks for all of your hard work and for keeping all of us updated here on the forum. Looking forward to shooting, Daniel
