  1. I know this has been around many times, but what is a good front sight post and rear sight notch width.
  2. Well, I got the EOTech Model 512. That's the one with AA batteries. I thought it was faulty untill I read the instructions which say to press firmly on the switches. I put it on a flat top AR-15 and sighted it in yesterday. It has no apparent paralax which can be a problem with dots and sometimes scopes. The retical was sharp without resorting to reading glasses or some kind of diopter lens that older shooters need with iron sights. The clicks seem to be honest. Also, I was impressed at how bright and how dim the dot can be. On the negative side, the switches are not very easy to use. I wouldn't want to have to swich it on if I was in a hurry however that shouldn't be a problem for me, I'm not a soldier or a cop. I think the two switches do too many things. Multi function switches are loved by some and hated by others. I never liked them, they are too complicated and I don't trust them.
  3. We had the All Guard Team (National Guard Super Squad) here last week end at a High Power match and they said the holographic sight had no noticable paralax but the ACOG did. They must have been talking about the EOTech. There are two models, the 510 and the 552. There must be more difference than the batteries for $90.00. Which one do you guys use?
  4. Who makes the hot setup for red dots these days on a flat top AR-15? You can spend from $100 to over $1000 on one. The Army seems to like Aimpoint and you can get them in two power magnification. Paralax at long range would be a bad thing.
  5. The systems are quite different between the Dillon and the Gracy. The Dillon incorperates a full length sizing die and requires a pretty sensitive headspace adjustment in setup. Also you will have to find a way to decap and expand the case neck. Also the Dillon doesn't chamfer or debur the case mouths. If that is important to you it will have to be a hand job. The Gracy trimmer is the last step in case prep. You size the case, expand the neck, and decap the primer in your full length die. This could include the fancy Redding bushing style die in which you can control the ammount of neck sizing by whichever bushing you use. When the case is sized to your liking, the last operation is to run it through the Gracy which trims, chamfers, and deburs in one operation. Bob Jones makes a carbide cutter that really is a asset to the Gracy trimmer. All this has to be incorperated into your loading system. If using a progressive, there will likely be different ways to incorperate each system. The Dillon can have problems with a crooked cut, and you are locked into their sizing die. The Gracy is better suited to a one at a time operation like a Rock Chucker, but you can be inovative with either system.
  6. You guys really need to listen to Brian on the Hornady One Shot. You don't have to clean it off and it improves feeding. Also, it's great on rifle cases, no mess and you don't get dents on the shoulder like the greasier compounds.
  7. Yea, you know what they say about things that look too good to be true. I'm going to stand back and observe this with heavy lenses. But it is interesting.
  8. Has anyone tried this system? We have a local gunsmith that is putting one together. We need a seance to see if John Browning would approve.
  9. Thanks for all the info. I will test these types of ammo out as soon as I can. I was looking for some accurate factory ammo before I invested in the conversion kit and dies for my 550. I'm not completely sold on the 9MM 1911 yet. The case tapers so much that I feel it will cause reliability problems, even with a ramped barrel as mine has. If I reload, I might as well go to the 9 Super Comp. or 38 Super with a new more accurate barrel.
  10. I have tried the Winchester white box ammo. along with a number of other brands. Obviously I have an accuracy concern with my 1911 9MM. It groups about five to six inches at twenty five yards. I guess that's good enough, and shooting groups over bags isn't the reason I have the gun, but would like to see better accuracy. Technique wise, at the same session I got inch and under with my race gun and around two inches with my 45's. It's a factory produced pistol so maybe I need to throw some money at it for a new custom barrel.
  11. I've got the same problem with 185 Federal Gold Medal Match in a single stack with a ramped barrel. They group really good but they won't feed. They don't seem to be able to make the corner into the chamber. They are pretty short, 1.164" o.a.l. I put in a 11 pound spring and that didn't help. Longer nose lead smi-wad cutters feed OK so I won't shoot the Gold Medals any more.

  13. When checking a 45 ACP for accuracy, one of the bench mark cartridges is the Federal Gold Medal Match 185 gr. Does a factory loaded cartridge exist someplace for the 9MM? Federal doesn't make a Gold Medal Match for the 9MM.
  14. Has anyone measured the difference in cycle rate between a heavy recoil spring and a light one? Also does the recoil spring have anything to do with how fast the barrel unlocks or is that a matter of mass?
  15. The new piston and piston seal is officialy: Piston/Piston Seal Assembly. Remington part number is 200295. This one part number takes place of the old two part numbers. I ordered mine from Remington. You can't order it on line but you can print a order form and they were very quick with the order, like within a week and I live in Alaska.
  16. Do you have the new gas piston assembly? Clean mag tube, piston and seal with gaps at 180 degrees? Gas ports open? Sometimes changing brands of shells will help.
  17. I was checking out the Remington web sight parts department when I noticed a change in the piston/piston seal part for the 11-87, 11-96, and 1100. I ordered the assembly and it is two rings that snap together rather than two seperate rings. Have any of you had any problems with the old parts? Has anyone tried the new parts? I also wonder why they made the change. Is this the answer to a question that hasn't been asked?
  18. When you get done cleaning and lubing, the first time you dry fire you should see a little puff of oil mist go up past the rear sight.
  19. One movie that's kind of different: "The Red Violin"
  20. My gunsmith recommended 38 Super dies for the 9x23 but Dillon told me to use 9mm dies. However, using a 223 shell plate would be a good idea if you are using all Star Line because it will weed out all the Winchester 9x23 cases (they won't go in). Winchester cases have much thicker webs and lower walls, thus significantly lower capacity which could cause problems. 38 Supercomp and 9 Supercomp have nearly identical capacity.
  21. Dennis, Kyle is right. Sighting in that close will cause very high hits at midrange (highest arc of the trajectory) with a scope mounted so high above the barrel. Try sighting in at 25 yards and see where you hit at ten. Tod Jarret advocates a 25 yard sight in. I had a comp problem so that comes to mind imediately. However, the first post indicated low hits. Was this due to loose screws?
  22. There is another possibility. If you are sure of your technique for group shooting, and this includes letting someone else shoot the pistol to double check, the problem could be your compensator. Sometimes the bullets get deflected by the comp due to gas dynamics or actually hitting a baffle. Different bullets behave differently. I had to bore out my comp to correct this. And, yes, people told me I was flinching. Wil Scheuman clued me in to this problem.

    Tasco

Thanks, I guess I hitched my cart to the wrong horse. I have one on my open SV and also one mounted to the vent rib of my shotgun. I really like the one on the shotgun. I even hunted pheasants with it.

    Tasco

Has anyone heard if Tasco is dropping the Optima 2000? If so, any roomers of a replacement?
  25. Do you notice any frame battering with the lighter springs? How about shock buffers? My gunsmith might have a cow if he finds out I'm using a 12.5 pound recoil spring.
