  1. Ordered this from John a while ago, took him a while to build it, took me a while to shoot it when it was in the white, then another while to get it back to him to finish, then a while for me to photograph it. So "new" is a relative term :)

    JPL Precision 6" Limited

    KKM Barrel in 40S&W

    Dawson Ice Heavy Magwell

    Dawson fiber front sight

On this one I asked him to make slot cuts (EGW-style) only smaller and closer together. I really like the aesthetic of the narrower cuts. He also cut a slot on the top. Cut in a french border, JPL panel cut, bead blasted then duracoated gray with satin finish flats. It looks freaking awesome. Just like with my JPL Open Gun, I'm sure the limiting factor will be the shooter, not the gun :)

    Enjoy the pics!

  2. He answers his phone? I've been leaving emailing and leaving messages for six months trying to order springs and follower sets, not to mention the fact that he has had my Doctor and some other items since April of last year.

    Great guy, but...

    Alex

    Alex,

Sorry to hear your experience hasn't been as smooth as mine. In the past I've called an left a message with what I want to order and he calls me back to get my credit card and shipping info. I believe some of the dealers who are sponsors here on BE Forum also stock his products. I know that doesn't help you get your stuff back from him. Was he doing work on it?

  3. I've been running Grams springs and followers back to when I was shooting limited with my EAA, and now in my JPL guns. I always have appreciated that Beven donated prize certificates to matches I've shot at and always go after those, as you can never have too many Grams springs/followers. He's always been great ordering over the phone and getting the product to me quickly. This weekend at Area1 I got to meet Beven.

I wanted to put out a public thank you to him for supporting matches through product donation and showing up and shooting! It's awesome when a top notch product is backed by a top notch guy. Thanks Beven!

  4. I have a 4.15" Tactical in 45acp that I carry on occasion. It's a little heavier and bigger than carrying a single stack, but doesn't seem much different than say my XD, except a little heavier. FWIW I carry it in a Bladetech IWB. I don't know if this really makes sense, but I used a match to determine the reliability of my gun and mags. If I can run through a match or two with it functioning, I figure that's a good indicator that it will just function. A better indicator than just standing static in a stall and shooting anyway.

  5. I don't know about inherent accuracy difference, but I've got both. If you're already shooting and loading 40 and not shooting any 45, it would be probably more cost efficent to get the 610. Same bullets and powder, just get some federal small pistol instead of whatever you're using. I've got my same Limited load out of my 4" 610 just switch the primer type. That being said, I think the 45 feels softer for the same power factor. It also provides a bigger target for reloads (the 45 cylinder holes seem HUGE compared to my 610).

  6. The next time you have a few minutes, try jogging with your arms locked by your sides. Awkward no? We naturally use our arms as counterweights to assist us as we move quickly. By locking your arms into a grip on the gun we deprive ourselves of that natural balance. By breaking that grip we can restore some of that natural movement.

I don't think Aristotle has time for jogging :) OUCH!

Nah, but next time you're out jogging, practice air gunning and sighting in on objects with blissful abandon until you notice there's a patrol car facing you with the officer wondering what the hell you're doing. Extra points for running in Speedo jammers or bike shorts. not that I know anything about that...

  7. There is no fee associated with posting the match scores to USPSA. Dundee could do it, but nobody has asked us

to. One of the reasons that we use the CCS website which links to the results on teamcroc.com, is that USPSA

won't post a combined overall. Most shooters like to see how they did against EVERYONE, as well as their

    official results within division.

Thanks for the explaination Bill! Having come from NWS it confused me that I had to see the results in a text doc instead of the "nice" USPSA format. Wonder how hard it would be for USPSA to program it to allow overall results like we post on the CCS website.

    ~Mitch

  8. I think he means the "local match results". In the NWS (Seattle area) all the clubs post the scores to the USPSA website for viewing. In the CCS (Portland area) Albany does, but TCGC and Dundee have their scores posted on the CCS section website in a text doc. I like it when the results are posted directly on the USPSA website, but I understand there's some fee structure associated with doing that.

  9. I've been using MG CMJs - With an FMJ, you have an exposed lead base, which is not ideal. With a JHP you have a covered base, but could run into feeding issues with the hollow-point running up the feedramp. The CMJ solves both.

To you specific question - I used some JHPs and CMJs in my limited gun, and didn't change anything.

  10. I watched Henning's video on how to strip and clean a Witness, and he used Brake Cleen. I started using that on my slides once they're stripped. Cheap, works great (I get the non-chlorinated one). I then use Mpro7 to finish clean, then wipe down the parts with CLP.

  11. Since you're asking in the CZ you may already have made your mind up. Consider that if you're already shooting a Witness Match (what caliber BTW) you may be able to reuse holster and mag pouches if you get a Witness Limited. Possibly even mags if you've got a Match in 40S&W. I was happy with my Witness Elite Limited. Great service from Henning on getting set up with all the right stuff. When it came down to it, I got into limited for a few hundred dollars less than going the STI route. But now I'm having JPL build me a custom STI-based gun for limited.

  12. I guess I'm confused by "access to the trigger" is prohibited. Does that mean if you actually access the trigger (aka finger in the trigger guard) or if access to the trigger is possible (aka you've started to draw and the gun is being lifted out of the holster thereby exposing the trigger to potential access).

Speerman - I hope the answer is your interpretation, but was not my initial understanding after reading the ruling.

  13. Sorry guys, I can't find the thread, but I vividly remember it...

There was a video and huge discussion on Michael Voigt facing uprange, draw THEN turn. A bunch of people were accusing him of breaking the rules and not getting called on it, but it ended up there were provisions for it in the rulebook.

Is my memory correct? Does anyone else remember that video/thread? Did the rules change?

    The rules did change.

    NROI Rulings

Title: Drawing a handgun while facing uprange

    Created: 11/11/08

    Updated: 11/18/08

    Effective: 11/18/08

    Rule number: 10.5.16

    Applies to: Pistol

    Ruling authority: John Amidon

    Status: Released

    Question

The glossary in Appendix A3 gives the definition of facing uprange as "face and feet pointing straight uprange with shoulders parrell to the 90-degree median intercept of the back-stop. so if on the start signal my eyes turn towards the direction I am turning and my shoulders and feet are no longer in the their original position, am I considered to no longer being facing uprange and may draw my handgun without violating 10.5.16

    Ruling

In order to assure consistent application of this rule, the following shall apply: After the start signal, regardless of the type of holster used, access to the trigger is prohibited until the competitor has rotated his body sufficiently to cause the holster's muzzle line to have passed through the point which represents "90 degrees from the median intercept of the backstop".

While that may be the case, if the competitor violates 10.5.2 it's still a DQ:

10.5.2 If at any time during the course of fire, a competitor allows the muzzle of his handgun to point rearwards,

that is further than 90 degrees from the median intercept of the backstop, or in the case of no backstop, allows

the muzzle to point up range, whether the handgun is loaded or not (limited exceptions: 10.5.6).

10.5.6 While facing downrange, allowing the muzzle of a loaded handgun to point uprange beyond a radius of 3 feet

from a competitor's feet while drawing or re-holstering.

  14. I'd like to switch from Titegroup to Silhouette for my 40 load since it's the powder I'm using in my 9Major load. I've looked at the reloading manual as a starting point, but I'm loading much longer than the manual thus I believe I will need an increased powder charge.

    Current recipie:

    40S&W Mixed brass

    180gr MG CMJ

    4.6 gr Titegroup

    WSP

    1.190" COL

I'd like to swap out for Sil. I think a good starting point based on my searches would be 6.0gr. Can anyone who's loading long with Sil verify?

    Thanks!

  15. Another thing I'll change is asking the shooter which way they intend to turn. I know the shooter is not obligated to tell me, but next time I'll ask. I assumed the shooter was going to turn to pivot on the strong side as this is what most of us do. So right handed shooter facing up range, I stood off to his left. Which exposed for a long time as he swept past me while pivoting on his left foot. I didn't want to startle him with the "STOP" command as he swept past me, so once we got by, I issued the STOP and to his credit, his finger was (as it should be) still indexed on the frame.

No one wants to issue a DQ and no one wants to be DQ'ed - more importantly, no one wants to get hurt. Be safe out there!

    ~Mitch

Why would you stop him? Is this the shooter that drew before turning?

BEEP....gun leaves the holster he starts it swinging toward me, I don't want to startle him because I don't believe he can stop before it's pointed directly at me, it's definitely pointed at the other shooters watching, he goes past me, I see lots of muzzle, I issue STOP.

  17. Just wanted to throw up a reminder for RO's and new shooters. Sometimes we have stages that start facing uprange. The stage description doesn't always explicitly state "turn then draw" as it's implicit in the rules. However, when you're ROing a new shooter, it would be well advised to give them that reminder BEFORE "make ready". Just to make sure they're head is in the game (they're thinking "first things first") and they don't get ahead of themselves. It is very scary for all involved when someone does the "draw then turn." Proactively helping new shooters will create a safer shooting environment and be more welcoming to them.

    [/end of public service announcements]
