  1. I thought it was because I ordered a case of the wrong bullet and didn't feel like paying return shipping to get FMJ's ;) They also make nicer holes in cardboard. But I think the guys already covered the legitimate reasons for using a JHP. :)

  2. I think the reason they are taking awhile is due to miss info. They have me as a B and I'm a C in SS. Also they have a guy that I shot with as production B minor and he was shooting Limited major.

Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done to change that at this point. Once the hour is over, the results are final. The registration list was posted at the range during the match for everyone to verify their entries, category and division. It can't be changed after the arbitration period even if it's wrong. The reason for the delay is someone is driving the database back and has to meet up with the guy who will post it on the website. I know everyone is anxious but it will happen.

    Chuck or Carl,

How does it work if there's an error that I did let them know about? I was listed on the posted registration list as Open C, but I let them know I actually am now a B shooter. She took my name and shooter number and I saw her make a correction on a printed list. In the final match results on Bruce Walker's site, I'm showing as 2nd C instead of what should be 4th B. It doesn't really matter to me, except that the other C shooters who came in "3rd" and "4th" really should've been "2nd" and "3rd". I'm not sure what place they gave awards (if at all) down to, but I wouldn't want a legitimate C shooter to be cheated of an award that they might have actually earned.

  3. When you're shooting these matches, what is your limiting factor? Are you reaching out to distances and you feel you're not able to hit the targets because you can't see them? Or not able to hit the targets because no matter how much time or stability you gave the rifle, the barrel and ammo set-up will just not get the job done? I suspect your Trijicon optic is not the limiting factor. If you're only able to get 5" groups out of your match ammo at 100 yards you would probably benefit more from a better barrel/ammo combination. FWIW, my 16" pencil barrel does 2-2.5" groups off a bench with Black Hills 52gr Match looking through a Burris 1-4 scope.

  4. I'm with aztecdriver, if the RO could have DQ'd you, he should have. He would have been wrong, but he should have DQ'd you.

+3 - What's the point of saying "I could've DQ'ed you". Like what, they're doing you a solid and jeopardizing others safety? There is DQ or not DQ. I agree with "hey I hope you know you're running on the ragged edge of the 180, and if you know you're doing it and are conscious of what you're doing that's okay, but if you didn't know you were doing it, then please be aware". But if they see something that is a DQ then they should DQ. Clearly in this case, there's no DQ, just an annoying distraction.

  5. I just got one from a private seller on Sniperhide. I was literally brand new. I fed some CCI Mini-mags through it. Then I fed some bulk Remington ammo through it. Worked great on a Springfield 9mm 1911 frame (ramped barrel). Accuracy isn't as good with the same ammo as my Ruger MKIII. But it's fun to shoot the single stack with 22lr. And I bit the bullet and bought at 2011 mag for it so I can try it on my open gun. Mags are expensive but it seems overall well built. Oh yeah, and I got the one with a threaded barrel, so when the BATFE sends my paperwork to the toystore I'll have a suppressed 22 open gun :)

  6. When you guys are loading ammo that is for accuracy, are you also loading it on your Dillon 650's or single stage loading (or at least measuring each charge?). My 55gr MG loads with 24.0gr of H335 at 2.260" COL are terrible (3" groups). I don't know if it's my load or my process or my gun or my shooting. For comparison, same gun at the same sitting shoots 52gr BlackHills Match in the blue box at about 2", and with my bolt gun (Kimber 8400 in 308) with my single staged reloads I'm easily around .5". I would hope that with my own 55gr reloads I'd be as good as Black Hills ammo...

  7. For 308 right now I've been single staging - but that's taking forever. So I think I'm going to neck size and prime on the 650, then powder and seat on the single stage, since I have an electronic powder measure to measure each charge.

Yes, when I get to doing FL size again, I'll switch the die out. I'm not a high volume shooter with my bolt gun, so it'll be a while before my 500 pieces of brass get to 4x shot.

  8. I see you already posted in this relevant thread. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=152350&pid=1707597&st=0entry1707597

FWIW, I full length size and trim the first time because I get brass that was not shot in my bolt-gun, then neck size after that. I haven't gotten to the point where I've got 4x and need to re-full length size, but that's my plan. I was going to trim with each reload but the guys at Dillon when I talked to them said it's probably not necessary until the next time I FL size.

  9. Being local to a builder can be very helpful, IMO.

I totally agree with that. Fortunately for me, JPL was 20 minutes from me and a few miles from the range I worked at in grad school. I've got an open gun and a 6" limited gun from him that I'm very happy with! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

  10. Hmmm...I usually have people ship via USPS for most things as Priority gets anywhere in the country in 2 or 3 days. UPS from Brownells to outside of Portland Oregon takes a solid week. I've had FedEx steal stuff out of a box before and deliver a gun to the wrong address. I guess my experience has been different than everyone else.

  11. Resurrecting Adam's old thread to see if there is any new thinking on this in the last 2 years. I have a prize cert from Sierra, so trying to figure out which to buy 500 of for a 18" 1in8 twist barrel on a DPMS 3G1.

  12. Chrono your old rounds and chrono some new rounds with different primers and see for yourself. I didn't notice any statistically significant difference between brands of small pistol primers - various between primers was within variation of the "the same load". I did notice a small and expected increase in velocity and muzzle blast when I had to go to a small magnum primer in 40S&W. And when I say had to - my old EAA Witness needed Federal primers to reliably ignite and I couldn't find any standard so I switched to magnum which were available.

The biggest difference for me is the hardness of the cup - so on some of my revolvers and that Witness I need the softer Federal cup and on something like 9Major, I'm using a Winchester small rifle primer for the increased hardness.
