  1. If it's been sitting in a gun shop at that price for a long time, see if they'll take less. 10mm is fun to shoot. Hopefully you reload, so you don't break the bank just in ammo cost.

I almost bought an Omega once, but the manager said to shoot it on the range a box or two. I couldn't get it to run right - the double extractor was neat, but just didn't quite work on that particular gun. If what's in the shop is a "normal" Govt style 1911, it should be good to go!

  2. I wish I could out shoot the accuracy of my guns. There's a guy who works part time at the gun shop where I'm part time on the range - he's a human ransom reset. I just wanna run and gun.

  3. In short, there could be manufacturing tolerances that make both "work" but you had to adjust the pre-travel. Now that you re-adjusted the pre-travel, does it fire reliably? Also look at your over travel. The difference in the hammer clearing the sear could be as small as under 0.001" and if it was clearing and now barely does not, or it rubs, then you might have to adjust.

  4. I'm very happy with my 4" 610, but then again, it's my IDPA ESR gun, since my 5" 625 is a no-go for IDPA. I would agree that if you're not going to shoot IDPA, then go with the longer one - easier to make major, longer sight radius, extra weight to deal with recoil and muzzle rise. The only potential issue is a long gun might not swing as well, but from my perspective that's a small issue compared to all the advantages of the longer barrel.

  5. I've gota SDB now, and when I have the money I'm getting a 650. My plan is the 650 will be set up with all my small pistol primer stuff, and the SDB will be for 45acp and 10mm. I've always been happy with my SDB.

  6. This is super interesting! I never even considered using GAP brass to load for my 625! Even though it's easy to switch the primer system on my SDB, using GAP brass would mean I could use small primers which I'm already set up for, and the short case should be even faster to reload! SWEET!

  7. I do the dryer sheets. I also wear a resparator when taking the dryer sheets out of the tumber and throwing them in the garbage., and take the whole deal outside to separate (I didn't used to, and I think this contributed to my elevated levels). I wonder if instead of adding a shot glass of water to the tumbler if it would help to add a shot glass of properly dilluted ledisolv? I just ordered a sample that should make a quart and will give that a try. Hopefully it doesn't destroy the brass but if it does, it'll only be a few hundred pieces, and I can throw away the media.

  8. I think the Glock 17 and 34 are a great pair for the two of you. I personally like the XDs, but I'm left handed and the ambi mag release is a huge plus for me. The mags for the two of you with the 17/34 will be interchangeable. I'm partial to Bladetech holsters. I think they make a competition pack that's a holster and mag pouch. In production I roll with 5 mags, one in the gun and 4 on two double pouches. Only mod I might suggest is putting a fiber optic front sight. You can go overboard on mods and accessories, but if you're just getting into the sport, follow my advice (that I do not follow myself) and spend money on training instead of accessories that you don't really "need". Good luck!

  9. I just called Sedro Wolley, since there was some glitch in the USPSA website not displaying the latest updates of the classification database. The nice woman on the phone told me I'm a C in Limited! I'm so excited to not be a D! (that's what I was in L10 shooting my single stack).

Once I got my ammo issues worked out, the Witness Limited has really be running well. The gun came from Canyon Creek, and was tuned up with EGW and Henning parts. I'm using the EGW slide stop pin, fiber optic front sight, Hennings thin grips with some sandpaper over it, and Hennings basepads on my mags. It's nice to easily be able to fit 20 into the mags. I've gotten lots of compliments on how sweet the gun looks - I know it's not how good your gun looks, but how fast you shoot it that matters, but it's nice to have good looking gear ;)

My load that I just chronoed

    180 Montana Gold JHP

    Fed #200, small magnum primer

    4.8gr TG

    1.170" COL

    EGW undersize die'ed.

Over 7 shots averaged about 950FPS for a power factor of 171 which is plenty of margin for variation due to humidity, temperatre or fate.

Thanks Henning for all the product support! I'm so excited to be shooting Area 1 as a C. Hopefully I'll finish middle of the group!

  10. EAA customer services was okay for me - they answered the phones and even an email - but then again, once I got my gun, I didn't have problems. BUT - Henning has been great with technical and product support, so I don't really care how good/bad EAA is, because I just go to H when I need something :D I've got some friends who are big CZ fans who are starting to get into the Witness also!

  11. I'm getting something built by my smith, but Chuck and the crew really took care of me - very good communication on items they didn't have in stock, and when they came in, items shipped quickly. I couldn't ask for more!

  12. I've got a SDB - but I want/need brass in 40S&W to be undersized by the EGW u-die (otherwise I'm getting nose dive problems). So I single stage the brass with my Lee press and the U-die, then load on the SDB - feels like a horrendous waste of time and at some point I'll get a 650, but right now, no space or extra cash.

Do what makes sense for you.

  13. I just traded into a Glock 17C - the previous owner had a second complete top end with a Storm Lake barrel. I shot it first with the Storm Lake barrel, and then with the 17C barrel. Shooting Federal 95 soft tip I was relatively impressed with how much the comp was working to get me right back on target. But I don't know what the velocity is on the ammo I was shooting.

I'd like a little more gas moving. I've got 115gr West Coast and 124gr Montana Gold and 124gr Xtreme (the newer version of the old West Coast). Would it be correct that given the same power factor a 115gr moving faster will produce more gas pressure/flow for the comp?

I want to cook up some slight hotter rounds for the 17C than my normal gamer steel loads. Typical load is 124gr Xtreme with 4.4gr Titegroup. Any recommendations?

    Thanks,

    Mitch
