Would depend a lot on who made it and how many rounds are through it. If it was built by a name brand smith and was practically new, that's a lot different than built by some guy I haven't heard of 10 years ago. Is this all the detail you have?

Haven't cleaned my SS barrel since I built it, last year...
Smoke is on par with the rest of the coated bullets, powder selection is key.
So what's your favorite powder for a low smoke result?

I started on a single stage. I think that was very valuable to understand the loading process one step at a time. I was so stoked when I loaded my first 100 rounds - it only took 4 hours! Then I got a SDB - that is a great press, and I got to 400-500 per hour! Worked for most of what I needed, until I started shooting Limited, and realized the need to undersize my 40S&W brass. I got a 650 with a case feeder, and it is awesome! It was stolen last fall, but I'm in the process of replacing it. If you do geta 650, the case feeder makes it really great, because you keep on hand on the roller handle and the other hand to place the bullet. I don't think I'd get a bullet feeder, because this is the point where I visually inspect the powder level (is there powder? is there too much powder?).

The screws on the Bladetech's are 8-32. At ACE Hardware you can get a knob screw (8-32 threads, with a big plastic knob - Bobby showed me that trick,) so between stages you tighten down the knob/screw and your gun is very secure. Come to the line, and loosen the screw back out. Works great!

Cool project! It's always fun to have stuff you've created yourself!

Screw 'em - I see it loosening up. I've seen Cabelas, Natchez and Powder Valley all with primers for immediate sale at pretty standard prices (albeit they sold out fast). I absolutely agree with Ray_Z - I'll remember who tried to f-us over and never buy from them again. I'm trying to take care of my friends and make sure they're able to keep shooting.

When I've ordered "bulk" from Xtreme (formerly West Coast) they would ship it freight on a pallette and we'd pick up at a USF Redaway depot. But that was always 25k+ at a time, split between a few guys.

1. My 650 and SDB both miss the primer cup occasionally. I thought about tying a funnel with a rubber hose to the garbage can. Not sure about getting snagged on the primer slide bar - not familiar enough with the 550.
2. Look closely inside your tubes. Is there a little bur or something that they're hanging up on? I found a little burr in one of mine. Someone else posted recently that they had a box of primers that had a few that were out of spec - not quite perfectly round causing the problem you describe. When you get a stuck one, check it out - is it deformed?
3. When you make the calibrated one, is that running the machine with only 1 round through, then when you're making ammo, you're filling all the stations? I found that there's a small difference when I run one round through at a time versus when I'm actually loading (had to do with how I'm swinging the my arm/press and the stations being all loaded). I wouldn't worry too much about an 0.005" variation. BTW, my 45acp COL is 1.250".
Good luck!

IDPA ESR would be the one for that blaster. That what's I used my 4" 610 in.

If you want a Kershaw, let me know.

When I talked to PV when I put my order in in early April I asked if they'd contact me so I could throw some powder on at the time that my primers arrived. The very friendly woman I spoke to said they would not be contacting customers as their orders were ready. They'd just bill my card and my primers would arrive a few days later. If I wanted powder or anything else to do a separate order (unfortunately with separate hazmat and shipping charges). I think they're just so underwater, they're trying to do what they can to get product out the door.

I've been really happy with the performance of the gun. John worked with me to make it the gun that would work for me. He recognizes that everyone's shooting style is different, and therefore the guns will all be a little different. The is the point of "custom".

I think Bladetech makes an injection molded double mag pouch. When I shoot single stack I have 3 of them for a total of 6 mags.

I'd just shoot it for a while then have your guy tune it to your liking once you've shot a few matches with it. You may discover you're perfectly happy with it "as is".

I started shooting 124's, then went to 147 for that softer feel, but after a few thousand of them I switched back to 124s. I've settled on 124s because I liked the feel in recoil better.

Another chime in on the 9mm front. So much easier to shoot it a lot!

I don't like flying because it's a hassle. But in terms of fear of death or anything, I figure when it's your time, it's your time. Plus growing up in Hawaii, how would I get anywhere!

Just saw a major lightning flash I read your post! Couple seconds later big time thunder. Maybe I'll shut the computer down in case we get any power surges. I probably need to be offline for a while anyway. I'm rotting my brain

The odd thing is, I saw them out of SR, then went back a little while ago, and had SR - I thought maybe it was a browser caching thing, so I refreshed. But then 5 minutes later I went to order (after talking to my gunsmith) and it was out. Then a little while later the sale price on SP disappeared.
Very exciting and dynamic time!

Good luck! Hopefully the primer drought clears up soon. In the mean time, you can set it up and pull the handle and watch the shell plate go round and round.

Yeah. Not sure if you were trying to be funny
but it is and it's brutal, in a funny way
.
Yeah that was a joke. It's seriously sad though. Good news is this week I've seen primers for sale on Cabelas, Powder Valley and Natchez, but you've gotta be in front of a computer all day "internet snacking" for primers to get some. BTW, if anyone local to me (portland, or metro area) is a new reloader and needs some large pistol primers to get started, lmk - I'll part with some at non-scalper prices.

Cool, so this week there have been primers for immediate purchase on Cabelas, Powder Valley and Natchezss. Looks like things may be loosening up just a little bit!

If you need to turn it just a little bit, maybe an electric drill and some fine sandpaper would do the trick. It's probably less than 0.001" - I'd go with 400 grit, then when it's really close, 600, 800, 1000.

If you guys have netbooks or nettops and want to play with something new, try Moblin:
www.moblin.org
It's a Linux flavor made for the netbook/nettop segment.

Was on a little pilot for a beta version of Win7, and have been happy with it so far. A little different looking than XP, but with some nice useful new features.
