No all I said was that Armalite ALWAYS called it a carbine so any AR-15/M-16 varrient in 223 would be a carbine. Can you have a 223 rifle? Sure just not if it is an AR. Sure you can have a 308 carbine short barrel and all......BUT NOW YOU ARE ONCE AGAIN NOT TALKING ABOUT RIFLE SHOTS!!! You would be talking about CARBINE SHOTS!....Or major thread piracy
Avast yee prepare to be boarded!

M-14 = 22" barrel length
FN-FAL = 21" barrel length (although a fairly common version had the 17.8" length)
I really doubt that 2" of barrel length made the M-16 a "carbine" compared to the M-14. The light weight bullet/ ammo, the almost 4.5 pounds lighter overall weight yes, but probably not the barrel length.

Ooops over capacity on the old phone keyboard.
-
Accuracy? I mean if you need 20 rounds in your shotgun..... oh I get it now
carry on!
-
P.M. me your address if you need a new one. If it works out let folks know how to do it. The tab was made long before quad loading was thought up, and it may not be the ticket for that style.
-
If it says "pop" you need more powder.
If it says "bang" you need to put on some soft music, open up some wine and......uh......oh.......wrong thread, sorry.

One of the women on the English standard team was having those exact issues with the RNT tab. She narrowed it on the bottom of the receiver side and did decrease the overhang. It now works for her. I can't speak for the other types of tabs or levers, but I do know a couple of quad loader guys who won't run anything, but i don't know if that is normal.
Here is what I would do, mod the hell out of it, if it doesn't work and you find you still want the RNT type tab I'll send you one for the effort of trying to make it work.

Hi, how are you?
-
It hasn't on my M1 since 1996. Still right at spec. for a LM choke and it has had around 30 cases of slugs through it. It is on 276, 250 rounds total right now.
-
Oh I don't know, getting hit with shot would really sting at the very best and it really could be a really HUGE problem depending on where and how deep.
-
Yes, historically it was a shorter barreled rifle, but like I said, Armalite always billed their firearm a carbine, and the ammunition was carbine ammo.
Now where in any of this did I say what caliber I used? Where did I say MY 30 cal? Matter of fact outside of mentioning heavy metal...I didn't mention a single caliber. But if we are going to talk about RIFLE SHOTS I figured we should be talking about...well....RIFLES.
Now Perhaps a Dahlgrin Naval rifle would like to have a word with your miniscule 58 caliber Burnside...or perhaps a much smaller 20mm Lahti anti tank rifle would like to chat.
-
Yes, Doug, they are carbines due to the caliber. Armalite ALWAYS billed the M-16 as a light weight military carbine; the original had a 20" barrel and it was considered a carbine. Now carry on with the thread.

A chip shot for a RIFLEMAN with a REAL RIFLE!!!
-
Outside of just a handful of heavy metal guys there are NO RIFLES IN OR SPORT!!!!! Plenty of dinky little carbines who's utility at long range is more than questionable, but damn few rifles. I would say YES we need more that 60 yard RIFLE shots, but who really cares about a carbine.
-
I always lift my head, if I didn't I would have to drink my beer with a straw.
-
I've heard that many "lifter troubles" could be caused by a weak lifter spring, but are attributed to welding. I've also heard that Remington lifter springs are very marginal to start with. Wish I could remember where I heard this, and it could be all false, just throwing it out there so you all spend more money on springs.

Maybe they just didn't want you there

Congratulations Moltke!!!! Good job in T town. 5th in that crowd is a days work!!!
-
I know a guy who replaced the 1100 lifter with an 870 lifter. Sure, it wouldn't lock back when empty, but it loaded like a dream. No easy loader needed! Just a thought.

Heretic, heretic, burn him, burn him!!!

Open question to inertia gun specialists. What barrel length is optimum for the function of "inertia systems" to operate at with a 1 1/8 ounce load at 2.75 DRAM equivalent, say around 1150 fps.. Or does it depend more on opening pressure, or hull design? I already have a base line, but I would like to know what others have found.

I really like hit factor! GO SOCIALISM! This two anywhere blowz, but I love the sport so I carry on. I do vote with the old check book and time aloted and personally don't do the total time thing, but to sign up for a total time match and then bitch about the outcome seems a bit tawdry, after all you already knew what you were signed up for.
Now if you are trying to change how an entire match series is scored, a la 3-gun nation, and you are gathering support from the shooters of said series, I am your guy!! I detest total time. Every stage stands alone as an event and should be scored that way. After all these years I still consider each stage a separate test of a certain skill set. To time the whole thing kind of reminds me of a D.E.R.O.S. date. You might get crushed in a truck wreck going to the airport, but you won every fire fight you were in. In the end you were "timed out", but you were never "combat ineffective"!

I saw your wife much more than I saw you. Not a bad thing. She shot very well as did every lady on the Finish team! For give my spelling, but umpa te!!! It was great to see you my friend. Perhaps Russia next year?

I can say that anytime you post something like this. "This post is in no way meant to take anything away from X" and then go on to give examplesof how another way takes away from X's achievement it is going to demean that accomplishment. I can see why Jesse thought Steelhead's comment was about him, especially after his premiere post on this subject. Perhaps it would have been better just to start with "I hate total time scoring" and not bring in any names right away. It certainly looks better that way
