  1. I would try it just the way it is at first. You can always go shorter latter if you decide to. As I recall you can chop a 28" barrel right around 22" and be in a rib support and get chokes installed. Carlson's offers this service and is cheaper than Briley, as does Simmons in Kansas.

  2. The very last thing an M1 needs is a "big bolt handle", they just aren't that hard to rack. An RNT type bolt closer is $20.00 bucks and you don't have to drill and tap the button. A big safety is $20 bucks and a pre- fit limbsaver pad runs around $45. Add a tube and your fine. All these things can be done in less than a half hour total time, and you already own it. My personal experience with the M1 is that they last virtually forever. I have shot one since 1995 with only a 2 year hiatus when I shot an M2. It is closing in on 275,000 rounds. I am back to shooting the M1 for the last two years because it just feels right to me because I have so much time behind it.

If you didn't already own a shotgun, either would be a great choice!

  3. I'm pretty sure I knew all that stuff years ago, like rapidly approaching 25 years of 3-gunning. As you say knowledge is power....major 40 knocks down any and all steel real well, it doesn't drop much making 100 yard C zone hits easy, where a minor 40 does. The driving of the gun under major power factor recoil is what I am used to and shooting a 9mm makes you weak. See I didn't need a forum sub section to know any of this, nor do I believe much of the info I get on any inter-web based chatter.

The problem is you don't know who is giving you info. The professed "expert" might not even own a pistol and is just typing to make himself feel important. I know a guy who reloaded only one batch of ammo, and with that ammo blew up a brand new CTR-02 J.P. rifle. He never reloaded another round. This was 4 years ago, and I see him give reloading advice here and there.....So yeah I guess we need another sub forum.

  4. He long time Tyler, hows married life treating you?

Pat, for a new strategy, spend more time chasing pistol builders, instead of rifle builders, or find one that does both. Then find one that gets along with your other sponsors. It ain't easy, matter of fact it is a lot of work, and on top of that you have to win and be nice (the easy part for you). Keep that up for around 6-7 years and presto! If you do an internet montage you can make it seem like 6 months or so.

  5. Just drift the roll pin out towards the top of the reciever. Gently pull it out with a pair of side cutters and save the roll pin. Note where the old cut off lever had springs and install the new lever by installing the roll pin from the bottom of the receiver. Don't hammer the hell out of it and all will be fine, make sure the holes line up. If you run into trouble call M.O.A. and talk to Tom, he is the inertia gun specialist.

I really doubt that the dump barrels caused the break you experienced, but Tom is the man to shead light on this.

  6. The best rear sight is the one that lines up with the front sight rapidly and helps place the shot in the center of the intended target. There are lots of ways to skin the accuracy cat, with the XS express sight and the 10-22 flip up rear sight being the kings in our sport depending on rib design.

  7. Moltke, of course I am not "the Norm"....he was a character on Cheers. I am Kurt, not an actor. Maybe where you are 9mm is normal, but where I am not so much. It is a big old country and it is easy to fall into "what we do here is the end all and be all", but that doesn't make it true. Maybe the rich kids doing 3-gun nation do it, but 3-gun is much larger than just that. In the Western U.S. it is fairly common to find guys using their USPSA gear for 3- gun. I could go into a big old list of guys who finish in the top 10 in major 3-gun matches that use 40, but i am afraid you wouldn't listen....this ain't Maryland......it is "Merica!!!"

  8. This "sport" started out as a test of practical shooting of all 3 defensive and ofensive platforms, AND ammunition! It was never a test of "ammunition selection". All this crap about "bunny fart loads" and "extra full on 2 ounce plains stompers" should NEVER have been part of this sport. I blame any rule set that never specified...MUST MEET MINIMUM POWER FLOOR OF DIVISION!! And just listed caliber, as much as gimmick targets that would require anyone to use anything other than good old standard issue ammunition
