Ahhhh.....well "wood" plays a part in one of my vices so this all "fits" nicely.
-
Yeah, we need comstock scoring for sure! Especially for the rifle bounce, and El Carbine-a-dente.
-
Yep 2001, I must have had some pig blood on my finger because I really thought I had typed 2001, but who the well proof reads anymore?
-
I've got lots of vices, but what does this "test" word mean?
-
Really? You guys must be getting real old!
First off Outerlimits, all the S.O.F. matches were WC3-G...it just had the S.O.F. at the start... Soldier of Fortune World Championship 3-Gun match. The year 2000 was THE LAST S.O.F. branded match. In 2001 it became just plain old World Championship ship 3-gun match. In 2002-2003 it was S.W.A.T. Magazine World 3-gun Championship. This was the Bakersfield team!!! .... mean while....back at the ranch...
S.O.F. had put on a match in Raton New Mexico in May of 2000. They were tired of Vegas and wanted to change venues. At the last minute in 2001 they backed the World Championship 3-gun Match, but due to the late date were not the head line sponsor of the match. S.O.F decided they wanted to go with the Whittington Center in New Mexico for their next match and Eric Miller, Kurt Miller, Blane West, and Jimmie holdsworth ( who all ran the local " Rocky Mountain 3-Gun" Matches) decided to run what turned out to be the last S.O.F. Sanctioned 3-gun Match in September 2002.
When Soldier Of Fortune decided to dedicate their energies to reporting on G.W.O.T. The idiots who had decided to do the last match ( Eric, Jimmie, Kurt, Blane, and a bunch of the guys who helped run the local RM3-Gun) started what is now Rocky Mountain 3-Gun match, which in a way is still going making it the longest running 3-gun Match in the U.S.

Pluses, receiver and barrel is one piece so poi/poa usually much better than with the M1/M2. Easier to quad load WITHOUT a bunch of port work. A little heavier than an M2, but not as porky as a Versa. It already has Benelli parts It can be made to run fairly light loads easily. I know of several top shotguners and a couple of 3-gunners running them, and they really like them.
-
All most everyone uses the 21-22" barrels, except for a lot of folks that use the 24-26" barrels, and the folks that use the 28" barrel. I'd say almost everyone is within 7" of each other.

Not enough adult supervision....I'm out, ya'll have fun cause it won't be S.O.F. type.

It hurts my sense of honor a bit that you would think that Pat. At no time would we have to do silly stuff. There are plenty of other matches that do that already!
Curtis I guaranty that targets will be visible for iron sight shooters. I am shooting in the stages, and we are going to do that more than once a day to make sure you can see them under all conditions. No, we aren't shooting it for score so chill about that too!
-
What is this match? Well here is what it is. So many folks we run into have said...man I would have loved to be able to shoot the old SOF match. Well here is your chance. This is an exact S.O.F. style match put on by the same guys who did the last one, with almost the exact rule set......in other words you get a chance to shoot one!
Some ding dong on another forum stated that "these old farts really resist change". He completely misses the point of the match. It is for all the folks who really wanted to shoot one, now have the chance to really shoot one so they can see what it was really like with the gear and firearms rules of the match at that time.
BTW docmedic a 20" barreled JP CTR-02 with a TA-11 Trijicon scope, and Harris bi-pod and a nylon ching sling makes weight.
The rule about muzzle breaks 1"X3" was indeed a S.O.F. legal rule changed around 1998 due to the assault weapons ban of 1994. I was the one who made the ruling on 3" from the crown of the barrel forward, instead of over all length.

For clairification, iron sighted rifles are exactly that! No red dots allowed, just real iron sights.
You can run a red dot as your one optic.
-
NO!!! The alignment gauge has nothing to do with if the barrel is clamped to the tube or not. It has everything to do with a basic mis-alignment of factory tube to centerline of bore.
-
No, not so much.
-
I usually use a 21", but that doesn't make my 28" open gun any less acurrate because I shoot a 21" barrel. Best group I have shot to date is a 3" 5 shot group at 100 yards with Remington managed recoil slugs out a of a light modified 28" Benelli M1. My 21" usually does 4-5" groups, might be the difference between a fiber front sight and flip up rear and a solidly mounted red dot.

There were never any walk throughs. It was all field position shooting, never any ports to brace off of very little chance to use prone. Had to hunt for targets etc. You were forced into the most God awful positions to shoot from, with no way to practice for it or figure it out in a walkthrough.
Reason not still around? Well the main sponsor quit sponsored the match, but in a way it still is around, because the guys who did the last S.O.F. also started Rocky Mountain 3-Gun the next year. Me, my brother Eric, Blane West and Jimmy Holdsworth. Now RM3G is far removed from what S.O.F. was as it is being run under a different set of folks who have their own vision, but it has its roots in S.O.F.!!!
-
Um at no time did the SMM3G staff say any of the stages were going to be mysteries. They said you couldn't walk them before hand, just durring the 5 minutes assigned to each squad. Just like any level 3,4 or world championship IPSC match. No big thing! Lighten up guys!

That makes sense, it's closer to your chin that way! Of course a "rear bag" may be just the ticket for you as well. Keep us posted!
-
Hmmmm...... yeah, around the 5th post.

It takes a "special" kind of guy to want to "feel a pair" while shooting. I am glad to see that your outside standing by your truck instead of in the closet.
BTW when the folks from the real # entity see your post you may have lots of new friends with all sorts of signs.

It's flat you Heretic!

I vote for no walk throughs at all. You can watch it being shot, but that's it!.....BUT this is an OK second place!!!

I know that it has been covered here before and I think Pat Kelley had a step by step and pictures. Basically you put it in the U clearance cut at the back of the handle, grease up the upper where the handle meets it, to keep it from sticking to the upper. I like to put a foam ear plug up front on one side of the gas tube where the nose of the charging handle goes around it to give it as much space as it can get when closing it. So fill up the U notch and SLOWLY close it until the latch just snaps into the mill cut on the receiver. I also put a little bead at the back of the bottom of the charging handle, but don't put in too much as that is where the gas key ends up on cycling.

Many years ago I built a rifle up out of a Colt flat top. I never could get that thing to group at all. I tried several different barrels, different gas blocks different free floats....etc. Finally replaced the upper itself and went back with the first barrel, free float, and gas block and it shot great! Ran into a Hi-Power guy who claimed that the Colt upper was sprung and that it does occasionally happen. I got no idea if that's true or not, but the new upper worked so that's all I can say

If we change the rules it won't be an SOF type match now will it?
By the by, long slide Glocks were available. I know because I had to buy a model 22 upper end for my model 24, so I'm thinking 5".
If you don't like to shoot buckshot perhaps you should stay home and iron the lace on your underwear instead of shooting such an arduous match. Can't you just hear Johnny Wilson saying that ?![](//content.invisioncic.com/r270761/emoticons/default_laugh.png)
