  1. Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the info. Guess from reading the first thing to do is get my concealed carry so I can transport my guns.

In alabama no permit required just to transport an unloaded gun where it can't be accessed (say in your bag in your trunk). But you will definitely want a permit... welcome to a gun friendly free state.

  2. First to happen at match was a factory para extractor lost tension. Over the years... Couple of the little collars on the aftec that hold the springs. Couple of cracked firing pin stops. 1 factory ambi safety (strong side broke off just beyond where the pin joins to the plate). Countless fiber optic rods (far fewer after I started doing a better job of installing them). Scope mount hole on a backup caspian open gun won't hold a screw anymore (gun has a thin dust cover just not much meat to tap... I need to get it welded up one of these days.) Bent a firing pin (round without a primer got through unnoticed in some practice ammo pin (extended) got stuck in the flash hole of the case (best I can tell) when I cleared the malfunction it bent the firing pin which was left sticking out of the breech face. Cracked 2 slides 1 on the right side through the ejection port, the other on left side at the square corner at the top of the ejection port and the breech face (both were on high rount count open guns so that almost shouldn't count, more like a wear item). Couple of tungsten guide rods (one which launched itself down range during a classifier and actually didn't even stop the gun. I am sure there is more, I just can't remember.

I don't count aftec springs, recoil springs, or mag springs as generally those are wear items that don't normally break rather just wear out and stop working.

Add anothe slide to the list of involuntary offerings to the gods of speed... found it when servicing the gun the week before the south carolina state match...

  3. That's one of about 3 places I have had them crack over the years. The other spots I have seen are at the back of the ejection port near the square corner on the same side as yours. The othe spot I have seen is on the other side at the front of the ejection port where it is thin (top to bottom)

  4. Lock gun open, use swab to wipe crap off breach face, ramp, and locking lug recesses in top of the slide, add lube, go shoot. The top end comes off my gun a couple of times per year close to big matches for a bit more thouough cleaning. It gets torn all the way down at the start of the season to check for wear. Other than that I just shoot the thing.

Dirty never seemed to cause much trouble, dry does. Ymmv

  5. Umm... and the correct answer is load that thing up with a stiff charge of slow powder and shoot the heck out of it. If you decide to replace the comp let me know and if it's what I think it is i'll buy it off of you to add to my antique race gun part collection.

  6. Current primary gun commander length shorty with 2 barrel holes 8.1 gr of silhouette 124 Montana Gold jhp in FC headstamp brass at the length I load to yields about 172 pf. That's a safe margin for the chrono and where when I was working up loads the gun seemed to flatten out and track well. In other guns/ combinations of ports/comps I have loaded as high as 178 to get the dot to track the way I wanted it to.

  7. Yep I had one as well... it was after they added the minimum bullet weight (pf was still 175). It worked just as well with a huge charge of n110 and 115s.

It was a nice STI with a full profile comp had 3 reverse angle ports and one straight up. It had a Bushnel holosight on it. It had absolutely no muzzle rise the dot just kinda vibrated. On the other hand it had a mind numbing concussion. On the plus side the ro always gave me plenty of room in fact I'd bet they drew straws with the short straw having to run me. I still have the gun and the dies... one of these days I might drag it out of the safe and form up some brass and shoot a match with it just for the hell of it.

  8. Has anyone seen an addendum or anything of the like to describe the correct alternate stage procedures/start positions to be used for classifier stages (so that there is consistency). I'd think for instance at a mininmum for something like Mini Mart you'd want to start with the carbine on top of the table instead of on the shelf under it?

  9. Watching the video I would give you 2 procedurals. For firing shots outside of the shooting area. If the WSB indicated that this was a forbidden action, that's a whole other kettle of fish.

2.2.1.2 Shooting Boxes and Fault Lines are used to define the limits of the shooting area(s). (See Rule 10.2.

10.2.1 A competitor who fires shots while any part of their body is touching the ground or while stepping on an object beyond a Shooting Box or a Fault Line, or who gains support or stability through contact with an object which is wholly beyond and not attached to a Shooting Box or Fault Line, will receive one procedural penalty for each occurrence. However, if the competitor has gained a significant aIdvantage on any target(s) while faulting, the competitor may instead be assessed one procedural penalty for each shot fired at the subject target(s) while faulting. No penalty is assessed if a competitor does not fire any shots while faulting, providing doing so does not violate (2.2.1.5 or 3.2.6) Shots fired after completely (both feet out and touching the ground) leaving a shooting area will be penalized one penalty per shot until the competitor establishes a presence in a new shooting area with at least one foot on the ground inside the shooting area.

that rule specifically addresses shots fired while touching the ground or an object outside the shooting area, or having been out side the shooting area and not having yet having established position inside the shooting area (by having at least one foot touching inside the shooting area and nothing touching elsewhere). This seems to me after the 3rd viewing that he had left the shooting area and not established position back inside in that case penalties apply.

Edited response after several viewings of video and best I could tell he left the shooting area before he hopped.
