  1. Calling Wilson customer service is definitely up to the user. If the mag looks new and is not working it might really be a manufacturing flaw and valid, but if the mag looks like its been run over with a truck, or if you want to make a business from buying and selling refurbed mags then that is different and somewhat unethical. For what its worth, both Wilson and Dillon have bent over backwards to take care of the customer (even when I was being a dumbass). Asking politely and not taking advantage of their generousity goes a long way, but don't expect anything and you won't lose anything ..or.. you can just buy those TRIPP kits
  2. If you call them, they may replace your mag springs. I got a few mags from a known "bad batch" of springs. Sent in the mags and a few days later they sent me some new ones that worked fantastically! ~Mitch Good call Mitch! Wilson Combat has been pretty good about their no BS guarantee.
  3. I wish I read this before I got my double stack SVI in .45 I have only been informed of recently about why you don't see as many double stacks in .45 (correct me if I am wrong). I have had a high maintenance Para that needed new mag springs and a thorough constant cleaning (or I think it did). My SVI in .45 built by Smoking Hole is like a super ultra girlfriend. When she works it is just a dream and I feel like a superhero but when she's cranky OH LORD it takes constant troubleshooting and obsessing to get it to run. My issues range from bullets getting stuck in the tube (not rising up) to SWC rounds getting stuck on the feed ramp, not chambering... Sometimes the hammer not cocking back again (it is not hammer follow I think because it does not drop to half cock) Maybe it's just my gun not inherent design flaws, but the mag and feeding issues have been consistent with both pistols. ...true to form SHE DOES NOT SPEAK BACK TO ME to tell me what is wrong with her. This is great for troubleshooters and problem solvers who like to tinker with spring weights, cleaning and bullet dimensions. HORRIBLE for people who like to run things out of the box. For me, making my SVI be reliable 100% is a hobby in itself it's fun if I don't think about how much I put into the gun. YMMV - my experiences have been consistant.. but then again I bought used both times.
  4. Could it be possible that it's a misshaped/misfitted slide stop or magazine follower problem? My preference is the TRIPP RESEARCH upgrade kits. These springs are tough and the followers are a great design. http://trippresearch.com/CVS/products/1911/1911.html I've used their 7 round capacity kits before and replaced many mags. Now I see they have 8 rounders. >_< I have not tried those but I swear by the 7 round kits I have.
  5. Dillon continues to impress me. Even when the dumbass was me they still gimme a break and take care of the parts. If Dillon has what I'm looking for I don't even bother going anywhere else. With Midway giving less and less incentive as far as the Bday discount etc, and Dillon stocking more and more products I start and stop at Dillon.
  6. Considering how this topic might be a bit dated, the increased prices of ammo nowadays might influence your decision or anyone reading this thread. If you like "doing the math" like me check out this page.. it;s a reloading cost calculator. (or do a search on RELOADING CALCULATOR on yrou favourite search engine) http://www.handloads.com/calc/loadingCosts.asp I initially got into reloading because I love being frugal but I have found that reloading relaxes me, encourages me to shoot and practice more (you don't save money, you just shoot more ^_-) and gives me versatility in controlling my loads (and experience) as well as my firearms purchases - since all calibres are suddenly 'not that expensive' or hard to get. As for the belt.. I have thrown away my SAFARILAND belts and bought CR speed.. they are more rigid and don't fall off like my worn out Safarilands. PLus the velcro is on the 'correct' side.
  7. Just another endorsement for the SAFARILAND 771. I got mine from BENOS as well. It's the best deal around I think. I just wished I was able to buy some in RED before they discontinued it I have tried the 773 for a short time from a friends' rig. I dunno if its just force of habit but that slit in front just helps indexing and did not have any problem with mag retainment.
  8. Give em a call.. I just did a few weeks ago and they are fine and friendly. http://www.kingsgunworks.com/ I just don't think they focus much on their website...
  9. Try safariland.com or holsters.com the techs there are usually very quick and very helpful
  10. I have one of his SVIs and always loved his work - I've recently tried to find him as well, and a friend of mine who talks to Steve Ryan (the guy who taught him to grind knives) said he was in Arizona (or Utah - I forget now) somewhere NOT making guns and misc goodies. I know it's not very helpful, but don't let it dissuade you as I'd like to know for sure if Aaron Harris is still around.
  11. Glad to hear that we were able to help you out bro! I hope the setup meets your expectations.
  12. +1 on what Bamboo said... To add you might want to consider investing in some good rings and a good base for your scope - you can get them used at a great price from snipershide.com - most of those guys sell these great accessories not because they are crap but because they are upgrading to something better - so that holds some reassurance for me. Might I suggest some Badger Ordinance mounts and rings. (They also have great faqs on how to mount your scope properly on their site) Skimping on these items is like buying cheap wheels for your sportscar or buying cheap ammo for your bolt rifle. It will work yeah but you won't unlock the full potential of your setup.
  13. good choice I think spend big on the start and cry only once. My first scope was a Vari X-III as well (don't mean anything but just saying )
  14. When I first started I was in the same boat as you, and don't blame you at all.. I thought it was ABSOLUTELY preposterous to spend more money than on my rifle - but I trusted my friend who taught me what to get. As was previously mentioned this idea of buying a scope that is more expensive your gun is quite accepted. I still think it was the right train of thought and have no regrets. Your mileage may vary. If money is an option you 'should' at least buy a scope that is comparably the same price as your rifle. My first bolt action was a 700 PSS. Might I recommend a Leupold mark 4: 4.5x14x50mm
  15. Thanks for the info... this is the practical advice I wanted to get a feel for. i have both a 1911 and a revolver CRspeed rig. I can confirm that other than the "bolt on double decker extension" that is on the CR speed revolver rig, the trigger guard cover is longer and more chamfered on the revolver rig. The CR speed is very versatile and modular to a fault. You can pretty much fit any semi auto in the 1911 rig with enough small parts. Just tried a BHP. Seems like it would fit fine, no matter what the literature says. ..but.. as always.. I could be wrong.
  16. Call me insane - but I tried a search and didn't find anything on it... I have a CR speed holster for 1911 that has a LOT of shims and small parts - even cups for large Glocks, etc. It fits my 1911 fine and it was branded as such. I read somewhere that if you take off ALL the trigger spacing shims it can fit a Glock. So on a whim I tried it - and lo and behond it seems to fit my XD45 very very well... Is it a conspiracy, or with enough shims, cups, etc (or in my case, lack of) can a 1911 CR speed holster safely fit an XD and glock? As in I don't have to buy 3 holsters for 3 guns? The XD seems stable, supported and safe (trigger does not fire when using it for draws and reholstering). So is the literature of "specially machined for _____ guns" not exactly true? Less modular holsters like the Speedsec have different shaped trigger guards that much I noticed. Thanks for your time.
  17. SLM that is a neat link! thanks for helping out.. I might just go this way.
  18. Does a non hard chrome brass or gold anodized aluminum magwell exist for the SVI? I found that Dawson makes one in brass but it is hard chromed. I hate to admit it - but my reasons for wanting one is cosmetic not for added weight/balance function. Thus - an aluminum anodized in gold is also an option. ...maybe a special order from Dawson for a bare brass?? - but going that route, is there a way to coat a brass magwell to minimize tarnish? What can I say, I'm a slave to fashion... luckily for me I am not that bad of a shot compared to those who would tease me - and the ones who are better shots than me at the local ranges are friends and are good sports
  19. Guys I really appreciate the patience.. I was unsure of myself because the 771s slipped on the safariland belt easily. It seemed like the CR belt was too THICK to fit in the 771 belt loop. Right now I basically unscrewed the loop and the plastic flexes over. It works - just needed the encouragement.
  20. I tried to do a search with not much results - I think I am just missing something here? So I apologize.. I finally upgraded to a CR-speed belt (genius) and retired my safariland belt. As I was having a nice time this evening moving my gear over I notice that it is impossible for my 771 mag pouches to fit on the CR-Speed belt. (I noticed the 771 mag pouches dont fit on my leather 1.5" gunbelt either. They ofcourse fit PERFECTLY on my safariland belt. BTW I even tried removing the screw and opening up the clamshell belt loop - no luck. Am I doing something wrong? or is this a sign to upgrade to a guga ribas or cr-speed pouch? BTW I am not a competitive shooter and only shoot steel at the local range informally, so there are no rules to what equipment I may use or pose with Thanks for your time & help.
  21. if its worth anything, the CR speed soft inner belt is compatible with the SAFARILAND LEVITATION outer (not standard outer). Don't ask me why they did this. (The Levitation velcro setup is same as the CR speed) I bought it as a blind buy when I did not know what was available out there. The Levitation is great cause it's rigid and wide but you can only use it with a 012 and safariland accessories only.
