  1. Think it would be advantageous to build an XD open gun using the V10 version with the comp in conjunction with the ports?
  2. I've had a Springfield TRP Operator for 5 years and would take it over the Wilsons and Les Baers I have shot. You can find them for right about $1200 and it's as reliable as a gun gets. Great sights, excellent trigger, supurb slide to frame fit, and amazing reliability. For me, it doesn't get any better!
  3. Great looking XD! That's pretty much the set up I'm going for, just an XD instead of XDm. What kind of holster do you run?
  4. Thanks Scott. Unfortunately that 170mm kit is for the XDm mags. I guess 16rd mag with a +5 extension isn't too bad. Is that comp the only one of its kind available? I noticed that it has no horizontal ports like the SJC or Brazos Thundercomp that you find for 2011s, any particular reason for this? And finally, I guess I should verify that a standard 5in XD has what it takes to handle 9mm Major loads in terms of pressure, etc? Thanks!
  5. I'm tossing around the idea of building a 9mm Major Open gun out of one of my 5in XDs (not XDm). I really like the SJC Comp that is made for the Glocks and I'm curious if anyone makes one similar for the XD. Also, be curious to hear from the guys that have done this what type of mount/optic combo you went with as well as magazine extensions. Thanks!
  6. Even with the snow and being freezing cold, you are right, it was a great match!! Thanks to everyone that set it up!
  7. From the time I started reloading I have been using Montana Gold 115gr FMJ. I'm running 4.4gr of Titegroup under it and make 133PF. I'm wondering if it will be worth me switching to a heavier bullet, namely 124gr MG. Will I notice a significant reduction in recoil if I tailor the powder charge so I'm still making approx. 133PF? I would expect that less "snap" will get me back on target faster, allow for quicker splits, and lower my times. Am I on the right path? It it worth the switch? Thanks for the advice! FYI-Running a 5in XD, as if it made a difference.
  8. We both had a great time and will be back out I'm sure! Thanks again for your hospitality!! Next time, we'll bring the bagels!
  9. If my wife guarantees me that she won't have the baby early (due May 22nd) then I'll be there shooting Saturday! Can't wait to be shooting again back in Ohio!
  10. Well, as luck would have it she wasn't feelin well after the practice session Saturday and ended up not shooting the match. She's promised that she's in for a match or two next season though. I guess I can live with that. Give me plenty of time over the winter to practice with her and make sure she's more than ready for next spring!
  11. I absolutely love my Springfield TRP Operator for Limited 10 division. Single action trigger is hands down the best in my opinion. However, the argument could be made that faster reloads could be had with a double stack stack gun. In the end, it's all about personal preference.
  12. Thanks. That is excellent advice. And if Tracy is your wife, I want to thank you two for all the hard work you put in at Fredricksburg! Match can't happen without volunteers like you! (assuming you are the right Deegans! lol)
  13. We're relatively new in the area and I only know a handful of the people I shoot with. I made sure we're squadded with them. I plan on letting them give the advice while shoot my own match. Until/Unless she asks my advice of course.
  14. I've been shooting USPSA for roughly 5 years and had a long shooting background before that. My wife of 3.5 year on the other hand has only shot on occasion. I make sure she goes to the range with me often enough that she is well aware of the safe handling of firearms, is accurate, and can for the most part correct a malfunction. Which turned out to be very useful when two intruders kicked in the back door of the house while I was overseas. One 9mm round later and they were gone faster than they came in. I digress, she has finally agreed to shoot a match with me since it's my birthday this weekend. I am looking to those that have gotten their wives or girlfriends to shoot a match or even become a regular competitor for advice on how to ensure she enjoys herself and it is a successful venture. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks.
  15. I probably would have sent it back to Springfield Armory had I not had to get my front sight refit. I figured I'd have them do it all at once. I appreciate everyone's input!
  16. How would you compare Clays to powders like W231 or the HP38 that you're talking about? I use titegroup for my 9mm and clays for my .45acp loads.
  17. Well that's what I figured too. I check the ejector, not broken or chipped. Had the FTEs with 4 different types of ammo, tried 5 different mags or so, and couldn't find any dirt jamming the extractor. I figured it was a spring or the extractor needed replaced. I tried a 14lb recoil spring and still had the same issues. Got my slide back from Springer Precision this week and shot a match this weekend. They replaced and tuned my extractor. My XD ran 100%. Glad it's taken care of and thanks to Springer and all who work there.
  18. I'm just starting to play around in revolver division. Not wanting to spend tons of money right away I'm starting with my Taurus 82 in .38spcl using Safariland CompII speedloaders. I was looking at installing a California Competition Works cylinder release latch. I'm curious, does anyone with experience using these know if it gets in the way of the speedloader during a reload? Does it make it too tight for comfort? Thanks.
  19. What model is that from NM? Does it work with Safariland comp II's?
  20. I ran it from right to left from the right side of the barricade as well. I wanted to engage the first visable target as fast as possible and work it from there. I shot it clean with my Production gun. JT: What division were you shooting with you 3.21sec run? Production?
  21. I'm sitting at 61% in Production and have been hitting it hard lately. I put up a 100% on Steely Speed VII with a 4.11sec run....I'm gonna be real unhappy if it gets flagged! Well....as a great friend pointed out, I had just done the math for El Prez and calculated 60 points instead of 30....oh well, I guess i don't have to worry about an 82% getting flagged! lol
  22. I've slowly been crawling up in B class in both Limited 10 and Production. I shot an all classifier match today, pulled out a 4.11 second run on Steely Speed VII with my production gun. If the math is right, I just shot my first 100% ever!! Couldn't help but post it here! Yea....math not right. I had just calculated my El Prez score prior to this one. Totally forgot to change from 60pts to 30pts. But I'll happily take an 82%.
  23. Well I got my slide back and shot it at an all classifier match today. I was a bit worried having not had the chance to test fire it since getting it back from Springer Precision. They replaced the extractor and tuned it up. Ran 100%. Not the ammo, not the mags, not the recoil spring. The extractor. Thanks to Scott at Springer and all who work there. I appreciate the great work!
  24. Well I got my slide back from Springer Precision today. Along with refitting my front sight they replaced and tuned the extractor. We'll see if that was in fact the problem. MTF.
  25. I would think that having it happen with Winchester, Remington, and Federal factory ammo along with my reloads would infer it isn't the ammo. Really don't want to shoot 9 major just to get it to cycle 100% of the time.
