Racegun9x21
I am needing a photo or diagram on the proper way to weld the steel targets to the stands. Can anyone help me out with this task?
John Dunn
I'd suggest you just buy them from GT Targets. Nice stuff.
Flexmoney
Our Steel Challenge targets are modular...and break down and store nicely. We have... 1. A base. 2. An upright post which goes into the base. (Various lengths for different target heights.) 3. A braket, which goes on top of the post. 4. Plate, which is attached to the bracket with two (loose) bolts. The plate just has a piece of angle welded on...with holes for the bolts to go thru. I'll dig up some pictures. Flexmoney
Here is the base and the post (the post just slides into the two pieces of angle that are welded to the base) :
Flexmoney
And here is the bracket and the plate (the braket slides over top of the post):
Flexmoney
It is important that the plate be allowed to move some when hit.
warpspeed
I came up with a very simple set up that works well. I'll take a picture tonight and post.
Racegun9x21
Great photos!! Thank you. Yeah, I am going to make sure that the plates move some. I will need a picture of the rounds plates if anyone can shot me a few.
EricW
The easiest stands are just a tripod made out of rebar with a hook at the top. The plate has a hole that goes over the hook. Extremely simple and robust (and cheap). I would resist the urge to weld/attach anything directly to the plates. It seems like a good idea until they start falling apart. shred
Holes and/or bolts are the way to go IMHO for Steel Challenge plates.

ong45
Damn Flex, From the looks of your 18x24 plate, i better get a lot stronger to set up smoke & hope.
Flexmoney
Damn Flex,From the looks of your 18x24 plate, i better get a lot stronger to set up smoke & hope. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It looks kinda thick in the picture. I think it is just the regular 3/8 thickness though. Jake DiVita is coming down for our Steel match this weekend (first of the year). I'll see if he wants to throw those plates around as a workout...kinda like a medicine ball.
