Stock 3 9mm conversion to 40 s&w

What does it take to make a Stock 3 9mm shoot 40s&w?

 

Is switching calibers as easy as swapping the barrel, extractor, mag, and recoil spring?

 

Is the 9mm and 40s&w breach face the same on tanfoglio slides?

From 9mm to .40 you will need a .40 slide as the 9mm breech face is too small, if you go .40 to 9mm you can get away with the same slide.

Yes, the barrel OD is the same between the .40 and 9mm.  I swapped over a Stock 3 9mm barrel into my Lim Pro .40 cal upper and it worked fine.  Although you might run into issues with the extractor and proper tension on the rim of the case.  In my case it worked fine but some report that you would need to stone or file a few thou off of the extractor flat to allow it to index further into the breech to grip the 9mm properly.

 

Also, my 9mm mags functioned fine with the .40 rounds I was testing.  The feed lips are close in width but shorter on the .40 mags.

I would have no problem tuning extractors.

 Why?  9mm brass is too cheap and plentiful? Capacity too high ?
