Most Common .223 Bullet Weight

Heavier bullets drop more, though.

Actually, they are more efficient & drop less @ distance where the lighter ones are not as efficient. This starts to show/benefit past 300.

Heavier bullets retain energy better at long distances and thus have better performance for long range. But lightweight/faster bullets are the cat's ass for shorter distances like we are shooting in this sport, especially under 300.

I also would have to say 55 grn, but as many have posted they also use 69, 75 and 77 grn. I find that the last three bullets are good for the long range targets and also to buck the wind better. Also when a 77 grn bullets hits a long range target it is going to have more energy.

A 69, 75, and 77 grn. will not have more energy than a 55 grn. going 3100 or faster at long range.

Unless the heaver bullets have the proper velocity!

At least that is what the ballistic charts tell me.
