david.bergen
I have a brand new JP tactical comp (big one) for a .875 barrel so I need a gasblock with .936 bore Should I look for a steel block or an aluminum one. Probably the steel one will be more durable but I am a bit concerned about the weight. The barrel is large and the comp is also rather heavy. Which one should I get ? Is a muzzle heavy weapon ok or should it be balanced?
kurtm
You can always machine down a steel gas block to be much lighter. Aluminum is ok but for the long haul I would want the steel. I like the rifle to be fairly balanced, if it is too muzzle heavy it makes on the shoulder reloads harder to do. KurtM
bigbrowndog
I've had gas leakage problems with alum, but so far never with steel, I much prefer steel. trapr
jobob
I would think that since aluminum and steel have different expansion/contractions characteristics there should be a greater chance of gas leakage with an alum. block.
david.bergen
I have ordered the alu one as the steel one wasn't available in the .936 size. Guess I can alway's replace it when I find another one. (That stuff sure is expensive over here $180) David
ERIC
CMMG makes a nice steel gas block for 0.936 and it's not too expensive. That's what I'm using with my JP barrel.
