Significent
Ive seen a couple attempts to put together a group purchase of 357SIG case gauges. Neither attempt panned out. Im going to give it a go. Ive already got people over at the SigForum committed to buying 11 of the 50 minimum count L.E. Wilson needs to do a custom run. If youre interested in purchasing one (or more), please visit SigForum *** here ***and follow the directions. Thanks!

ErikW
Pardon my drift... How is it possible to reload a bottle-necked cartridge without a gauge to get the cartridge headspace right? Doesn't the .357SIG headspace on the shoulder like a rifle?
Larry White
Find a gunsmith with a 357 sig reamer, buy a midway 9mm case guage, put them together at the same place and time. Larry
Significent
Erik: Most people use their barrel as a case gauge. That's what I do. The 357SIG does indeed headspace on the shoulder, although there's lots of confusion about it. A couple of people have measured their chambers and determined the case mouth doesn't even come close to the end of the chamber. Semi-auto pistol rounds are full-length sized every time, so if you have quality dies, your reloads should meet SAAMI specs. A case gauge in this case is a convenience that should allow confirmation of consistency between rounds. In theory, better consistency should result in improved accuracy. ErikW
A couple of people have measured their chambers and determined the case mouth doesn't even come close to the end of the chamber. I understand that's true with most factory pistol chambers in most calibers... that they're supposed to headspace on the case mouth but the chambers are so generous they actually headspace off the extractor. L9X25
Headspace is VERY critical on a bottle necked pistol cartridge. If there is too much headspace the firing pin drives the case into the chamber and the pressure stretches the case until the headstamp reaches the breechface. The case can be torn in half and the front half stays stuck in the front of the chamber and the gun is disabled until the partial casing is extracted from the chamber, usually requiring using tools to extract.
