Ok people, this is from http://mp-pistol.com/boards/index.php?showtopic=18332.

Here is the first post.

Putting this here so that it will get plenty of attention. Mods move as you see fit.

Many here probably get these catalogs in the mail. So when I read this and tried it my self using random last names and my zip code, well just see for your self.

Lets assume I were a bad guy looking for say......an AK47 all I would have to do is put a zip code and start running down the phone book until I find someone who bought an AK47 mag or accessory......Address and all!!!! Not good at all!

Im personally boycotting Sportsman's Guide until they get this fixed. Please send to anyone you know that may purchase from this site.

Another post

In less than 10 minutes I found a customer 38 miles away, according to the map provided by Google earth. On Monday he ordered 10,000 rounds (Item# WX2-66143, 500 rds. Lake City .223 FMJ 55 - gr. Ammo, Quantity 20) of new Lake City XM193 ammo that shipped Tuesday and will be delivered Friday according to the tracking number link. An industrious BG could hang out in front of his house with a copy of the invoice and sign for it?

Edit: Google earth even gives me 19 different front, side and back pictures of the house. Looks like the Carrier guy was installing an air conditioner.

P.S. Packages were delivered more than a month ago.

I emailed them, they don't plan on fixing this. Below is the reply I just received.

Dear A.T.,

Thank you for your email.

I apologize for the frustration caused by our online order status. We had made a change to our order status page due to numerous complaints that the older function was too difficult to operate. Since that time we have received a high volume of feedback, compliments and complaints, regarding the ease of visibility. The order status page is set up to locate by last name and zip code but if there is more than one in that area it will prompt for the matching billing address as well. We would like to think that our customers would not be randomly picking various names and zip codes to view other customers orders, but we can understand apprehension caused by the ability to do so.

At this time we do not have plans to change the status lookup, however all complaints we receive regarding this are being passed on to the corporate level for consideration as we have come into a high volume as of late. Please be assured that while we are unable to change it at this time, it is something that customer service is following through on. All order information automatically expires 90 days after any order activity.

If you have any questions please contact us.

Enjoy the Outdoors!

I don't know. You'd have to know the person's last name and zip code. Unless you have a common last name, I would not be worry. If the thief knows your last name, then they already know something about you. So the info is really not an added danger. They probably already know where you live in that case.

I had the same problem, but I went to the other link and got this:

It works, you can look at orders and see way too much. Random last names is the key, with with a little time you can find way too much....

I'll be calling them today.

Good Luck!

Here's another post.

I just called them to ask why Mr. Smith's name, address and complete order information was available to anyone who seeks it. They laughed at me, seriously. He asked me why I put in Smith if my name isn't Smith and claimed the address is not displayed as if I was the idiot, so I read it off to him.

They just don't think, it's that big of a deal. :angry2:
