How can you tell the difference between slides

for a 1911 and one for a 2011? I thought they were the same slide, but someone told me recently that they are not. I have one from STI that the package says for 1911/2011 frames. So which is it?

The STI .22 conversion upper I put on my Springfield 1911 frame is a bit wider, but works flawlessly.

Not sure if that helps or not.

Those conversions that will work on either frame is what made me think they were all the same. But, now I wonder why people that want their 1911 slide fit to a widebody frame are always told not to do it, that it won't work right?

Fitting to an individual frame can vary..as most slides and frames are fitted to each other.
